try having a strawberry or a tomato?
maybe it's different there, but fresh produce is relatively cheap for salad making. add some crumbled bacon and a hard boiled egg (or ham cubes and shredded cheese) and you have a pretty good complete meal for a couple bucks that's pretty filling. no cooking involved even since you can get pre-boiled eggs and bacon bits easily enough. however it's not as easy as spending money on a pre-packaged meal that has the dreaded additives she complains about; and hangs onto for dear life as a "time and money saver", never mind that bulk ingredients are almost always cheaper than prepackaged food, and that the nutritional content is much better. i fully believe that to Polissa, the food thing is both a way to be defiant to people that criticize her, and a way to keep control over something in her increasingly unstable lifestyle.

as it's been said here before in so many words: Polissa refuses to labor for the things she wants, and expects others to do so for her. on top of that she's extremely stubborn especially when she feels her ego is slighted. that combination makes for a deeply unpleasant person.

If @toilet_rainbow doesn't get around to transcriptions, I'll snag 'em once I'm done watching the replay of TdF stage 18. There's about 2 hours of racing left right now. EDIT: Never mind lol - will say, though, that dipshit here makes my head hurt proclaiming La Casa is like a faraday cage. No, it's not. Not at all.

It's because you have dick for cell phone towers in your region, Pissa. That's all. (end edit - back to watching racing now that the commercial break's over)

It's definitely not different there. Produce is relatively cheap. Period. It's much cheaper for her to make salads (or anything she would be getting premade provided she has the facilities to cook - which I'm actually doubting given the state of La Casa) than to get premade shit or order out all the time.

I mean, she's not cooking in the trailer right now in its current state, but she didn't cook in the old house either.

Getting Polissa to eat healthy food would be like trying to brush a cat's teeth, but she wouldn't even cook her bacon egg and cheese bowls either, even when it was obvious it would be much, much cheaper and probably better tasting. Polissa is adamant pre packaged crap is cheaper, despite all evidence to the contrary. She will die prematurely from heart disease on this hill.

If it can't be microwaved from frozen, Polissa doesn't want it. The closest thing she'll eat to fresh is shrimp on the barbie, seasoned with Joh's finger crust.

I would love to see what her song lyrics are like. From what I remember of her poetry, she has no concept of meter, rhythm, or repetition. Now add melody and over twenty years of no practice with any of those elements of style.

i remember people doing receipt comparisons and even in her own math, making it yourself was less than a dollar more per bowl... but she was measuring out divisions of the ingredients evenly (eggs, potatoes, bacon, cheese) rather than going be per portion, then making a much bigger deal of the time and effort needed to actually prepare the ingredients, cook them, plate them, and clean up. it should be unsurprising that larger portions are more expensive but her grocery shopping had some weirdly expensive pricing for some goods that i don't understand. their entire food budget of going through hundreds of dollars per month made no sense to me, and even if they're saying now they "get $100 for themselves" or whatever it was, that had no bearing on non-money food sources that are direct vouchers (SNAP) or charitable groups that give away food (pantries, et c).

i'm wondering how it's possible that her food money deteriorated when they functionally downsized their living arrangements and legal status (divorced i think?) to game the system for more benefits and less expenses while maintaining similar income. unless Josh was really pulling in a significant amount from his odd jobs and buying cheap food from work.

During the pandemic, states were giving SNAP recipients the maximum benefit just because they were on SNAP. Starting last year, states started to stop issuing the full benefit and reverted back to the old reward system. So instead of $300+, they are now getting only $100 (for one? for both? Who knows! Po and Jo will game the system for the max gibs when they're able!). Either way, Polissa heavily depends on her mother for food because she refuses to go to food pantries or to budget what she does get now. Financial illiteracy is definitely a factor, but willful ignorance is a much bigger one.

PS- while I can see a divorce happening soon, they are still together at this moment. It's a very volatile relationship, however. I think Joh is more invested in the relationship than Polly is. He posted all that anniversary stuff on Facebook while she barely gave the topic twenty seconds in her most recent "life update" TikTok. Excusing her shitty singing voice for over two minutes was more important to her.

SNAP takes household expenses in to consideration when awarding benefits. So, since they now don't have rent (because I doubt aunt, mom or grandma would sign a "lease" or anything to prove that Pissa and Joh are paying, because we know they are not), that might reduce the amount. I've never believed the story about the aunt having a loan on the trailer that Pissa has to pay on - I think that was part of her grift. I also wouldn't be surprised if they were running cables from mom or grandma's for electricity and we know they have no running water so I don't think they are paying for utilities either.

Josh got hired at Jack's (a fast food chain). How long until he loses this job?

I give it a week, especially if they're training him for management. I don't think he can count high enough to close out a till and make a cash deposit. He will never understand the mechanics of making sure there's enough change in the drawer every morning or making sure his batch is correct every night. No. Fucking. Way.

The idea of Josh Campbell as a manager is ludicrous. Which in turn makes it hilarious. He will barely last a week at that from the demands thrown upon him, or he loses his shit at a customer. Managers do not exactly get the happy satisfied customers to talk to, especially in fast food. He does not have the patience nor the temperament to deal with their shit.

It’s going to be beautiful.

I feel like Polly has this vision of herself as an overworked entrepreneur woman with her struggling small business that she's struggling to keep afloat on top of homesteading on family land. That is the only way "saves time and money" wrt prepared food makes any sense. I will admit when I was early in my career I ate a lot of pizza rolls because when you're working 18hr days 6 days a week you don't have time to shop or cook but Polly isn't doing any of that. she's at home on her fat ass all day. she has never won so much as a slice of bread in her life protip for career girlies: get yourself a house husband who likes to cook. It's endlessly hilarious to me, this vision she has of herself

i mean she is running an "animal rescue" while building her "art portfolio" and also trying to raise her profile on social media. she is busy busy busy! and she does it all with crippling disabilities, an unhelpful family, and a persistent yeast infection.

in her head i'm sure she thinks neglecting her animals full time, shouting at joh to fix the plumbing, and occasionally daubing paint is just as stressful and time consuming as your fancy shmancy job.

Forgive me, I forgot that letting the piss from your neglected cats calcify in your floorboards was a fulltime job. Mea culpa.
Cause you know there are absolutely zero well-meaning goth chicks in the whole of Alabama who would love a sweet black kitty to adopt and give a good home to. They just don't exist there.

Isn't she close to a college town? Just go to the humanities department, they're there in spades.
