Harley Quinn - DC Universe Series - Verdict s̶t̶i̶l̶l̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶ I̶N̶. out again.

How have I slept on this show for so long. This shit is so funny. Not because of jokes, but because the dialogue just sounds like a woman. It creates a strange meta humor. Similar to how you can tell Archer is written by men because all its women are either just gross, horny, or bitchy. All men in this show are portrayed as dumb, angry, or sexist. The woman logic doesnt stop there though. One episode Harley disguises herself as a college student, but the Ridler discovers her because "Between that dated mini skirt and those flats how could I not?" he actually says that. Another time poison ivy gets captured and a male henchman is going through her phone and proceeds to criticize her for not being able to wear "kitten toed shoes correctly" whatever the fuck that means. This is the ultimate estrogen educed petty power fantasy and its hilarious. This is how certain woman see the world. plot conflicts involving petty social "victories" are handled in surprisingly emotionally mature ways such as realizing you arent defined by your previous partner and then veer off into the most ludicrous and unhealthy antics that absolutely 0 people will take for advice because men dont act like this and women don't like superheroes beyond idolizing abusive relationships and whorish aesthetics

I am convinced that big names like Paul Dini and Bruce Tim were brought on to the "writing team" only to endorse the show and to add tiny jokes referencing previous DC media. Any real writing is done by a woman.

If this is all you got just from the 1st season, then the 2nd season is an even bigger fuck-up.

Not because of jokes, but because the dialogue just sounds like a woman.
The main vibe I get from the show is that it was written by Californians, it just oozes out of the dialogue with everyone being so self-aware about all of their own issues, overly emotional to the point of borderline neuroticism and having their morality centered around immediate sentimentality rather than anything resemlbing actual moral conviction.

Lol you’re overthinking it. It just sounds like women and thats funny to me. Every joke in this show is portrayed as “aha they’re super villains but they’re so relatable” every action you see on screen has gone through the mind of a female and the reaction is supposed to be “that’s so relatable” I’m a little high as I’m typing this so forgive my redundancies.

Well I have some bad news for you. The first season was written primarily by men. Justin Halpern wrote most of S1 and S2 with two male co-writer producers. The humour is actually pretty good in the first two seasons and it cuts in most directions. Special call out to Dr. Psycho being censured for usage of the word "cunt" and WW rolling her eyes when Superman starts giving a speech on sensitivity about language.

BUT in S3 it goes massively downhill. And spoiler: they explicitly replaced the male writer with two queer women for diversity. I mean, they actually say in interview it was a deliberate decision for that. So enjoy S1 and S2 because the writing of the women gets a great deal less insightful when it starts being written by actual women.

You know this makes a lot more since sadly.

Certainly don't ever want to hear again about how this show is any good when they actually did the "Bruce Wayne should use his money to help poor people instead lol" bit that shows up on Twitter and gets debunked at least once a month (usually along with "uh, Batman spends most of his time beating up the poor and homeless lol")

What just as bad as the left-wing talking points and the smooth brains who agree with it are those who pull the "It'S a PaRoDy" card. That argument doesn't work when the it's obvious DC is pushing Harley to be a lesbian, girlboss mouthpiece.

Yeah hey writers of harley quinn? You don't get to complain about affordable housing when you live in LA. One of the least affordable places to live that's been struggling with homelessness for decades now. And don't give the excuse that "were mot like other creators in Hollywood, we don't make 6 figures a month or live in mansions in the hills."

This show has really fallen off a cliff (and I stopped watching it after S2). Harley is going to try to be a hero while Ivy has to deal with workplace sexism. Oh, and there is contrived conflict because of their "jobs". What stellar writing!

Damn, beat me to posting as I was stuck at work.

/co/ had a thread on this and it seems to be even worse than shown. One user claimed there is cut content from this season where Harley shows support for Amber Heard. If true, at least someone at Warner had some sense to cut it.

So I just watched the most recent episode, season 4 episode 4, and I'm going to summarize what's happening this season because I don't think anyone else is watching nor do I think anyone should.

Ivy struggles as the new CEO of the Legion of Doom because "she is a woman" and no one respects her because of this while simultaneously being more effective and popular than Lex Luthor.

Harley struggles to fit in with the bat family after Bruce Wayne is sent to jail while simultaneously being the most effective member of the team.

Clayface has become incredibly popular in Los Vegas and has about 3 minutes of screen time, only appearing in one episode.

King Shark had nine children and only about 5 minutes of screen time. Ivy and Harley are the godparents.

Nora is Ivy's secretary. Bane has a crush on her so she manipulates him to doing all his work.

Alfred purposely gets sent to jail to be with Bruce, but ends up in the wrong prison because he isn't rich.

The Joker hates being mayor and wants to return to villainy. (Probably the most interesting plot line, but barely touched on.)

Talia al Ghul takes over Wayne Enterprises while Bruce is in jail.

Psycho, Kiteman, and Gordon, have yet to appear.

Overall: The focus is mainly on Harley and Ivy with all the side characters getting the boot. The fact that Harley is now on the hero path while Ivy continues to be a villain could be incredibly interesting, but neither one is changing or growing as a character. The finale for the season is likely them having to pick between their jobs and their relationship, with the relationship obviously winning. However because none of the characters grew along the way, it's not going to have any impact.
