I’d argue the Barbies are not well off post brainwash, as all they do is hand out beers, but then the question is what are their pre-bw lives? It’s just vapid, empty “play” and nonstop beach days and partying.

The brainwashing makes no sense because there’s no explaination how it happens. Margot Barbie just returns to find everything in disarray because Ken… introduced horses to the world?

Also the troon doesn’t pass at all and the audience around me noticed.

Yeah, it's kind of horrifying that there's no overt indication that the Barbies were being oppressed or forced into anything and yet the movie still treats it as a crime that they are happy living in a Ken World and sees nothing wrong with the Barbies literally getting brainwashed into becoming feminists.

Did Gerwig intend to make it look like the bad guys won in the end?

If you look at the clip where the guy in the real world looks around for a second and says to Ken "Yes (theres a Patriarchy) we're just hiding it better now"

I wonder if she honestly believes there are secret Patriarchy meetups. Local chapters at the community hall. And we are actually the ones brainwashing them. So Women simply have to be brainwashed back.

Greta Gerwig is kinda known for this kind of shit. Both her, & her husband Noah Baumbach (Feminist Wife, Jewish Husband, not even surprising anymore) do this kind of shit in many of their movies.

There's another one where the movie just straight-up stops. It's one of those straight to the camera, "out-of" type of scenes. I don't remember which film. Sadly, I forgot that one.

That's mainly because as pointed out before, Barbie is not a good franchise to stick feminist screeds in. It's all about traditional views of sex, Barbie being all girly and Ken being all manly and shit. So when you try and make a point that Ken World sucks, you run into the difficulty of how exactly Ken World is so massively different from Barbie World.

It's noticeable that in most of the clips posted of the movie online, you hear many women chuckling at the shit Ken says and remain silent at the "feminist" moments.

From the clips I saw Ken doesn't appear to get any action. So it's like Barbie is like his Mom and she goes off to work. And he hangs around the house like a ripped adult son.

As soon as i saw Greta Gerwig was directing I already knew what kind of a movie it was going to be and for a year and a half I was told to take meds because it simply COULDNT be feminist propaganda because RYAN THE GOOSE was in it.
Hollywood mindbroke the chuds with 1 (ONE) movie and all it took was a single casting choice and a couple of feet shots in the trailer.

I think using Barbie as a platform for the director's feminist sperging was a bad idea. She may have pulled it off in Little Women, but this is a doll known for being hyper feminine and every child plays differently-with one girl we used to put GI Joe fatigues on them, armed them with rocket launchers and have them run around fighting over the pool with the Joes while another friend always insisted on having them get married and fight about dumb shit like our parents did. This may have worked as a comedy, say if Barbie world had to meetup with GI Joe world to have a sit down with Transformers world. That's why the Lego movies are a fun watch, but this sounds, idk, silly and not very enjoyable, and I think Mattel knows its not going to do as well as they'd like so there's Barbie movie merch up the wazoo.

I got the pink movie Hot Wheels Corvette RC and now Joe and Barbie can speed around the apartment to amuse my cats, so something good did come out of it. And by the way, Ruth Handler, the woman who based Barbie on the German Bild Lili doll (and whose company she bought out after they sued for IP theft) hated feminists, and dissed Steinem in an interview since Steinem, the former Playboy bunny, was on record saying the doll set a bad example for girls. If its portrayed in any other way its straight up historical revisionism, which is a feminist's modus operandi.

August is a cinema wasteland and of all the summer blockbusters (MI, Indy, Opp, Fast), this one is the shortest and lightest offering with no previous franchise knowledge necessary for the audience. It’s going to come second only to Mario for 2023. Girls and women are going to go see this two, three times in theaters. WB should be thanking to the gods for this one.

It's probably the slowest summer since 2014. The amount of traffic jam with other big name movies, successful or not, is what's killing Pedowood. I'm hoping and praying that both the writer and actor strikes will kill any movie or show that's based on an existing IP.

Barbie sales have been down for the past several years; who knew no one wanted a fat bald Barbie with a prosthetic leg? That's not to say Mattel isn't making money from the Barbie brand but Monster High and LOL dolls have taken a bite from their the market they once dominated, as have American Girl dolls. I think want it back but they have produce dolls girls want and from what they ask me to buy they aren't hairless fatties with peg legs but things like Dreamtopia mermaids and Color Reveal Barbies, you know, dolls that are fun to play with.
