Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

Pit bull owners are the only people who don’t neuter their dogs.

Not sure if all reputable breeders do this, but the one I got my dog from had me sign a contract promising I would get her spayed once she was the appropriate age. If I wanted to use her for breeding, I would have to pay a lot extra. I doubt backyard breeders and puppy mills do that.

Apparently after the attack the owner didn't stick around and the woman was taken to the hospital with severe injuries to one of her arms.

If you want a tough dog that will protect your family to the death (instead of randomly eating your kid's face out of nowhere one day), get a German shepherd, if you can give the activity they need. Unlike pit bulls, which are the violent retards of the dog world, shepherds are absurdly intelligent, sometimes almost uncanny and near human level, and very good at sensing ill intentions in others.

Those are a real nanny dog when well trained.

No one knows how to train these things. Even then, that training only takes so much edge off. The majority of owners don't get this. They think affection is enough. Half the time it is. The other half, it's not. You hear about that half the time a lot because most breeds don't have half the examples be unable to cope with life as a family pet. They are attack dogs. Living tools. Like a mule or a sheep. They are not pets. Ones that are soft and affectionate with people are the uncommon exception.

Strays can't be helped for this breed. They are bred to imprint on a person and be trained by that person. Then they function appropriately but it's still an animal with protective instincts that override any command they may be given.

Small wonder why the joggy nogs love em. Animals ruled by basic instinct, aggressive, and without redeeming qualities other than the ability to intimidate.

I remember my white trash neighbors three legged pit bull. The sweetest dog. Lost the leg to a wild hog. It took time to cope with the fact she was a rare case. I've wanted to find a way to intelligently defend the breed, but it's hopeless. Half the examples are irredeemable. The other half never have owners who remember to keep them on the fucking leash.

I had a pitbull camp out in my backyard one saturday. Fucker was sitting in the corner and wouldn't leave. Called animal control (which was closed, go figure), then the non-emergency number, who then got animal control to call back and said they'd send someone out. Being the government they never fucking showed up.
Thankfully the little baby blender got back out on his own accord.
Still cleared my yard afterwards with a rifle, though. I don't mess with pitbulls.

Pugs, Boston Terriers, Bull Terriers, English Bulldogs, and French Bulldogs are ugly, yet they manage to be ugly in a “silly” way. They aren’t unpleasant to look at. It also helps that they’re not prone to attacking random shit and make great companions.

American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, and American Bullies aren’t ugly in a “silly” way. They’re just plain grotesque and frightening. The eyes are soulless and too far apart in the skull. The head is shaped like an asscrack. The mouth is horrifically wide, which pit mommies will mistake for “smiling”. All these features make it pathetically easy to identify a pit bull (especially if it’s an American Bully), contrary to what apologists claim.

How anyone could see pit bulls as even remotely “cute” will forever remain beyond my comprehension.

(KTXL) — A 73-year-old mailman suffered injuries to his face, feet and arms after he was attacked by a dog during a mail delivery, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said the incident occurred on Friday at the 4400 block of Brandt Way in North Highlands.

The attack occurred while a delivery was being completed at a nearby house.

The dog, a pitbull, was restrained by its owner when a witness called 911 and attempted to help the postal worker.

After a successful intervention, emergency personnel arrived to assess the man’s injuries to his face, feet and arms.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment to his injuries.

Animal Control arrived later and took custody of the dog, the sheriff’s office said.

I saw a lab puppy on petfinder locally, it was 6 months old, the only shelter in the area that doesn't label pits as "mixed breeds" and one of the few that don't just have pits, so was thinking of giving them a chance. They don't list their prices, then I saw the application, which is longer than a job application, and very invasive. They want to know if you will pay for an obedience class if necessary, if you travel frequently, if you would pay for a housemates allergy medicine, if they can visit your home, a personal reference, etc. I honestly can't think of a single instance in my life where that would be considered acceptable or normal. Maybe if you had a search warrant issued for your property or you applied to a three letter agency they would be more invasive.

I've heard of someone being denied getting a puppy because they had a primarily outdoor german shepherd, that wanted to be outdoors, and came into the house when they wanted to. That person was pissed and rightfully so. It's the mentality that plagues too many people, if you don't do exactly how I do something you are wrong and a terrible person. I wouldn't be surprised if I would be denied for an application because I let my pup run free on acreage and feed them a raw diet because it's not Purina™
