The whole change to X screams slap job to me. I'm no marketing genius but making a huge change to a major website like Twitter in a matter of a couple days without any real prior announcement is absurd. The idea of an "X app" was looming in the background sure but you'd think a guy with millions of dollars at bare minimum would be able to understand the idea of fanfare and building up anticipation for something. Maybe he did it in such a fast manner because he knew there would be more push back if he just did an announcement about a change sometime in the future? Hard to say really.software lingers on in zombie mode for years, it doesnt flip a sign from “open” to “closed.” MySpace continued existing for years after it was acquired by Murdoch, long after traffic tanked and the site lost any relevancy.
I havent even read about twitter switching to X on any of the mainstream media sites I read. After following every step Elon made with bated breath less than a year ago I now have to hear about Twitter updates on kiwi farms. Loss of media relevancy, loss of advertisers, loss of traffic, X is well on its way to myspace-dom even if the lights will remain on for the foreseeable future.
Musk got rich off of the dot.com boom and investing into EVs at the right time but he sure can't manage a social media site in an effective way.
