𝕏 / Twitter / X, the Social Media Platform Formerly Known as Twitter / "MUSK OWNS TWITTER"

software lingers on in zombie mode for years, it doesnt flip a sign from “open” to “closed.” MySpace continued existing for years after it was acquired by Murdoch, long after traffic tanked and the site lost any relevancy.

I havent even read about twitter switching to X on any of the mainstream media sites I read. After following every step Elon made with bated breath less than a year ago I now have to hear about Twitter updates on kiwi farms. Loss of media relevancy, loss of advertisers, loss of traffic, X is well on its way to myspace-dom even if the lights will remain on for the foreseeable future.
The whole change to X screams slap job to me. I'm no marketing genius but making a huge change to a major website like Twitter in a matter of a couple days without any real prior announcement is absurd. The idea of an "X app" was looming in the background sure but you'd think a guy with millions of dollars at bare minimum would be able to understand the idea of fanfare and building up anticipation for something. Maybe he did it in such a fast manner because he knew there would be more push back if he just did an announcement about a change sometime in the future? Hard to say really.

Musk got rich off of the dot.com boom and investing into EVs at the right time but he sure can't manage a social media site in an effective way.

He didn't want the workers, the brand or the advertisers.
What did he spend 30 billion on?
The userbase. Which, despite a few high-profile abandonings, is still substantially the same as it was before the purchase.

I just checked BBC, CNN, Fox, The Times, The Guardian, and Sky News. All but the Times have it on the front page. Despite everything, they're still hyperfocused on twitter and the chief twit.

He's names his own children absurdly, so I'm not terribly surprised.

I'm disappointed he didn't name it Æ.com. THAT would have insta-killed Twitter.

Isnt that in a way what he wants? He wants to base this on a Chinese app that pretty much from what I understand is just that.

He clearly has ambitions to be not just the richest man in the world but also be dictator of at least the English speaking world. He aims to achieve this by AI assisted shaping of speech and controlling of news on the most influential social media platform, replacing the financial aspects of government by offering untraceable (except to X) payments, including more and more features to try to make it not just the replacement internet but the replacement town square and eventually government.

Along the same lines as WeChat but with this one man’s dystopian vision behind all the choices.

So he’s a megalomaniac billionaire, this is not news. He’s also an autistic shithead who has a 50/50 chance of either fucking everything up, driving everyone away and sending all his businesses bankrupt, or achieving his terrifying Orwellian goal and ruling half the world, and space.

Sneed while you still can.
