Mortal Kombat, the fighting game franchise that is only popular because of its non-fighting segments.

Yeah it's needlessly confusing but the gist of the matter this MK1 is a reboot of a reboot. Is MK1 supposed to be MK12, a remake of the first MK or just a alternate universe?
Why did they name it MK1
Many others have dipped their hands into this & it's piss easy to fix this design.Got curious and looked at the Tanya render and it looks really weird to me. It's like her arms don't fit her body and her neck is too long. Now I'm not someone who actually cares about hot ladies in video games but Tanya looks uncomfortably disproportionate and flat out wrong.
And what is that fucking plate on the top of her head?

Regardless how successful this series is lately. Rebooting your series twice in a decade does not bode well in the long run.Yeah it's needlessly confusing but the gist of the matter this MK1 is a reboot of a reboot.
It's kinda like the same reason why MK9 was just called Mortal Kombat (2011). That was also a reboot.
In essence, MK1 is MK12.
They are a little wonky, yes but I actually quite like these. The bob cut a lot more than the frisbee. Many others have dipped their hands into this & it's piss easy to fix this design.

They're by no means the best, but they do a basic job of not making Tanya look like Count Crackula played by Jada Pinkett Smith.

They cannot create new villains, or they're too afraid to.
Very true. Although I am admittingly a little concerned about what they will do now that they are doing bit of a soft reboot by bringing a good handful of the old villains back.KOF has had a new final boss every single game since it started.
It'll be Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, Shinnok and Quan Chi to the end of time. They are a little wonky, yes but I actually quite like these. The bob cut a lot more than the frisbee.
I'm sorry, the frisbee will always look retarded.
I really don't fathom the thought process of rebooting the franchise within a decade twice. Like wtf? Okay first time, it makes sense. They probably felt like they wrote themselves into a corner after Armageddon.
And it gave new life to the franchise and gave it a chance to begin anew. What the fuck happened with 11 then?

I'm sure they actually can create a great villain. I just think they are too hampered by their inability to not treat their nu games as serious funeral processions. It's like they don't have fun with it anymore.
Shinnok is meh and Kronika is boring. I'd much rather have them expanding on Geras. He was kinda cool but he was just Kronika's bitch. Or Kollector.

And granted, I love the characters but I'm also very worried. Then again, I do have faith in the SNK writers at least because they still retain the current timeline and don't Final Fantasy 7 remake us.
But what about Onaga? Hell, I'll take Blaze too. It'll be Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, Shinnok and Quan Chi to the end of time.
I believe with Verse's defeat Igniz has returned but they didn't explicitly say everyone came back. They're going to bring Orochi back probably in the next arc since this arc seems finished and they didn't really utilize Shun'ei.
I honestly forgot Onaga. Probably due to the fact he was a failure as a villain, even though they way he was built up as great. He massively fell short. But what about Onaga? Hell, I'll take Blaze too.
Shafting of the dragon king and fireman aside, I recall a conversation I had with someone who was creaming his proverbial consoomer pants at Shang Tsung in 11 because OMG HE'S VOICED BY THE GUY WHO PLAYED HIM IN THE MOVIE. OMG.
I think because of people like that, NR will forever be creatively stunted because they want to appeal to as many consumers as possible. For more information, the fucking movie guest characters.
But aside from Shang Tsung, we haven't actually gotten any confirmed main antagonists for MK1, have we? Is Shang Tsung even a villain in this or is he just a story-less carrot dangled in front of consoomers to preorder the game and not pay rent for a month?
Good. I find Shun'ei kinda lame.
Except for the Rugals.KOF has had a new final boss every single game since it started.
Which makes me wonder what they are gonna do for the new Garou withExcept for the Rugals.
Yeah I did state that. Although Rugal 98 and 02 aren't canon.Except for the Rugals.
Krauser needs to make a return I think since Geese is now canonically in the series since 14. Fatal Fury is part of a separate universe so Krauser doesn't need to be dead.Which makes me wonder what they are gonna do for the new Garou withmeGeese being dead and Kain being lame. Think Wolfgang is dead too and can't remember what happened to the two Chinese kids.
Geese was also in KOF 96 in a team with Mr. Big from Art of Fighting and Krauser. So he's a long-stay.Krauser needs to make a return I think since Geese is now canonically in the series since 14. Fatal Fury is part of a separate universe so Krauser doesn't need to be dead.
You're right. I forgot he was in that. I typically think of him in KOF98. But he's canonically only been in three games.Geese was also in KOF 96 in a team with Mr. Big from Art of Fighting and Krauser. So he's a long-stay.
He's been longer White than anything else by a mile. Pesina played him in the first two games but he didn't have a discernable ethnicity. For some reason I've gotten it into my head that Raiden was technically Asian because I believed he snatched the body of some poor rice farmer, then it got scrapped in the reboot for "being of undeterminable pale race as it doesn't fucking matter since he's a goddamn god"
I think they're more referring to the narrative around the game rather than the game's story itself. Coming off the disaster that was the SF5 launch they basically just decided to do the complete opposite. Better system mechanics, tons of modes, better netcode, functional lobbies, create a character and dress up bullshit, etc. There's certainly room for improvement in a lot of areas but they definitely won back the goodwill of the community and maybe unfortunately for NRS, set the bar pretty high on how much content a $60 fighting game should have. The create-a-character story in SF6 has been a unanimous success? I've only heard people saying it's a shallow grind fest that does the bare minimum of teaching you the controls, with a preference for modern, that really only ends up being a "jam as many goofy supers into the toon as you can" mode
Oh yeah! The backpedaling with Evil Raiden was one of my main gripes with MK11s story mode next to Scorpion being killed by bug bitch. They make such a big deal out of it from the end of X so I was actually excited.mk12 one is so boring that we are talking about kof.
also evil raiden as a earth threatening boss would be cool so of course they are not going to do it. instead we got dyke mileena and covid baraka
I wasn't crazy about Evil Raiden initially but came to like it since I loved the contrast of his look with normal Raiden. And then they wipe that timeline, just to go back to that in two games. Then why the fuck even do a reboot to begin with?Oh yeah! The backpedaling with Evil Raiden was one of my main gripes with MK11s story mode next to Scorpion being killed by bug bitch. But then 11 is like "Oh he's not really evil. Kronika made him that way and he'll be a good boy when he realizes this"
Fuck off. I want my evil Raiden dammit.
It's the retardation of 11's storyline. They wrote themselves into a corner. But maybe, they shouldn't have gone so balls to the walls with the grand epics they are trying to do.
