Overwatch

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Blizzard should have looked more into whether people wanted an e-sports league to watch or if they just liked watching YouTube compilations of normal people playing Overwatch. Could have saved a lot of aggravation if they had.

I haven't played any OW2 lately even with the Summer Games, for what is the point if there are no event-themed loot boxes to get?

You unlock a couple skins with the Summer Games challenges. Even so, besides FOMO, what's the point? At least with loot boxes, you'd have an equal chance to get SOMETHING as everybody else.

I may be the one person in the world who enjoyed Lucioball, but the new* fucking map where you were more likely to score on your own goal than on the opponents' really ruined the fun of the game mode for me.

*new as in the one that was introduced last year

And there were no limited edition skins with the old loot boxes. So if you missed a skin (because you were on vacation, busy at work, or had a fucking life), you didn't feel bad because you knew if would be available again during the Anniversary or the next Summer Games.

Normies don't give a fuck about Overwatch or Blizzard. We know this by the metrics (MUA) which they count per device btw so they are greatly inflated. They are gassing up August like it's the actual start of OW2 but Blizzard fucked up. So many people have left in droves and they really need to alter their battle pass as leveling is so slow it actually does not make me want to play. Season 5 is the most wasted season.

Worst part is, normies will still play OW and watch OWL, and blizzard will still make some money.

Because follow the trend and follow the clout.
Normies never watched OWL, OWL was never a success by any metric. It was something that Blizzard has been sinking money into in the hopes that it turned into something bigger. It's also something that Blizzard was able to trick sponsors and teams into investing into early on - but because of the extremely poor reception to OWL none of them have made a very good ROI and are not supporting the league anymore.

OWL is in such a bad state it's very soon to actually dying - Blizzard recently is offering teams the chance to leave the league and the remaining teams will vote if they still want to bother anymore. It's really hard to state how expensive running a league is (the way Blizzard does it) but they've been burning money for years with nothing to show for it.

I adored Overwatch, and I liked watching YouTube videos to get ideas or to just watch people ult in spawn or fall off buildings for the lulz.

I tried to like watching OWL. It was not fun. It was too fast to tell what was going on and people were taking a silly little game far too seriously.

Blizzard should give us back Original Recipe Overwatch, the way it was before OW2, before all the stupid new maps and stupider new characters. Also return the loot boxes. The battlepass makes me nauseous.

I don't understand all the harsh criticism with Overwatch's cosmetic monetization. Compared to modern games nowadays with loot boxes and microtransactions (Call of Duty, FIFA, Star Wars Battlefront II, Battlefield V), Overwatch is pale in comparison to those games. Free maps, lore, updates, characters and servers have to be paid for somehow.
This opinion I had in 2018 aged as well of Ingrid Bergman enjoying a glass of wine during dinner.

Overwatch is Dead
Overwatch 2 is Shit
The Overwatch Porn will be this series' legacy.

That last point is probably the only thing a lot of people are going to remember from this franchise. For as much fun as I had the first few years of Overwatch, they just need to take the L and let this series die. But they won't - ActiBlizz will keep the zombie going entirely so they have new characters to make fags when the next controversy rolls around.

Overwatch as a "watchable sport" was never going to happen. Too many characters, too many objectives, too many abilities, too many characters to track, nothing permanent for viewers to latch on to, too little downtime/breathing room, everything is unimportant, and way too many character v character matchups/counters to keep track of.

There's also a very long TTK and a very low skill ceiling compared to other "pro" games. It's too complex for normies and too simple for "pro" game fans - so the audience basically doesn't exist. Making it a league also means there are way too many games and makes following it a much longer commitment than many people want to sign up for. The games go on for way too fucking long and aren't spaced apart in scheduling (with most games being on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday) and are just rapid fire back to back nonstop.

This is something that even the NFL doesn't do (which obviously has way more people that would watch every single game) and even if you were to ardently always watch "your" team - there's a lot of garbage to sit through to do so in terms of schedule.

It's like a really bad movie in terms of watchability - a lot of stuff is happening, most of it incomprehensible, and if you think about it for a minute you'll realize none of it matters.

Overwatch isn't even a "series," it's a live service platform. It had a good thing going for it, but Activision Blizzard just had to kill it with boneheaded decisions.

I wish they did the TF2 path and did custom lobbies, custom servers, that custom map and rules game mode was actually fun.

I miss Roadhog fishing or Doomfist sumo. Did that make it in OW2?

They should have done that instead of forcing OWL.

Color (heh) me surprised. How many fucking heroes do they want to add anyway? Most of the new ones are redundant trash.
It's not about redundancy - it's about having something "new" to try and get players back playing/writing about/talking about the game.

How about making it an actual fun game, instead of a soul-crushing experience filled with tryhards and infected with dull metas created for a dying comp scene?
Oh yeah, and the live service is fucking horrible too, this "game" is just a money mill and one that doesn't work at that.

That's a lot harder and costs a lot more money then having a few low level employees throw a generic hero together every few months.

What if <EXISTING HERO> had <SLIGHT MECHANIC MODIFICAITON> and was <DIVERSE>.
