Not that there aren't enough reasons to hate HN, but the basis always seems to be some fanfiction where HN is Literally Worse Than 4chan™ and wants to holocaust troons, instead of the truth where HN is a forum full of annoying blowhards with too much money. I suspect it's like the inane horror stories about 8chan back in the day (or KF for that matter), where people hear from other people how awful the site is, never actually visit it, and then slowly exaggerate the badness further and further.

I think Linus was always like this, but he just didn't like making political statements. His based takes were because of his autism for his craft, and he just never has the chance to publicly show this side. The vast majority of developers are sjw retards. I don't think I personally know a single one that's not like that. Some of my buds who used to be normal turned very retarded after spending time in "regular" developer circles.

When social outcasts finally find some social belonging it's pretty normal for them to take on the beliefs of their newfound peers I guess, so nothing is really a surprise at this point.

The timeline was roughly this: an accusation of sexual assault was made against one of the core linux devs (from an IBM employee, iirc), which led to demands that he be removed from the project and a CoC inserted so they could remove more people. Linus refused and called everyone involved in the plot complete retards (I'm taming his language somewhat). Then, some time later, he abruptly went on a sabbatical after his daughter struggle-sessioned him (and possibly even threatened to accuse him of something, though we'll never actually know), said he was getting therapy, and returned soon after, utterly broken. While he was gone, a code of conduct was inserted into the linux source tree and the linux foundation was completely annexed by corporate-friendly troons.

The therapy was obviously chosen by his daughter, to break him and turn him into a good little woke drone. He was never like this before; he almost never shared political opinions about anything, but on the few occasions when he did, he ploughed a distinctly non-woke furrow, while insulting everyone who raised his ire.

I'm not pretending Linus was some saint of rightthink prior to this, but he was definitely politically incorrect. He had also been a prominent target for subversion for a long time, by corporate interests who wanted to control linux development utterly, to the point that he had a standing policy of never being alone with any woman who wasn't his wife. He never said why, but the implication was obvious, especially as there had been fairly open plans to try and honeytrap him so he could be brought to heel.

In the time since these events, the kernel has become much more friendly to corporate interests, particularly to the interests of IBM and its pet Linux distribution, Red Hat. Linus has been subverted and turned into just another tech idiot, by people who wanted to neutralise his independence.
