Hector Martin / Héctor Martín Cantero / @marcan42 / マルカン / @marcan42x / @marcan@treehouse.systems / Asahi Lina / Asahi Linux - Developer of Asahi Linux with a VTuber persona. Made Byuu's death unbelievable. Constantly accuses others of harassment and abuse. Hates Hacker News and Kiwi Farms.

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
tl;dr Spain's glowies supposedly tried to recruit him, but they were oafishly incompetent and much less tech-savvy than Marcan himself. Marcan eventually got bored of their games and ignored them. What a kewl and smurt badass!
It's like Melinda Scott saying she was "too smart for law school".

Him pretending not to roleplay as Asahi Lina is so ridiculous. It's definitely not suspicious that in this blog (archive) "Asahi Lina" says:
"To support me, donate to Hector Martin's patreon" Sure, buddy
It's less ridiculous when you realize Hector sees all other people as complete idiots, unable to comprehend his galactic brain.
In his world, it makes perfect sense to blatantly larp as an animu girl, because everyone else is below him, those feeble minds will never see through his clever disguise anyway!

i am surprised this guy did not have a thread ages ago especially after the byuu nonsense. if this is the type of person byuu was associating with its no wonder he was as fucked up as he was.

also im i the only one who cant help but imagine cartman doing the talking hand thing whenever hector is doing the asahi lina voice? i just keep expecting him to start talking about his taco flavored kisses.

You are not the first to imagine that.

Better late than never, and his mental state may be at a low point with the recent sperging. Not as low as it could go if byuu gets discovered in the wild.

He sounds just like my brother, to be honest, except my brother has no autistic computer skills.

Why are they always Site Reliability Engineers?

Marcan's job at Pixiv is what allowed him to move to Japan.

Here's Marcan's Flickr album of the Pixiv offices, where they apparently have young, sexualized anime girls on display everywhere: https://www.flickr.com/photos/marcan42/9688485524/in/album-72157635411185170/ [Archive]

I guess Japan really loves putting pedobait anime stuff all over the place, and Marcan was very happy to take photos. Jesus Christ.
Unsurprisingly, Marcan likes to collect anime figures and other weeb junk:

This reminds me that when Marcan first joined Mastodon, one of the first things he did was throw a tantrum and demand answers for why many Western/English-speaking Mastodon instances were blocking mstdn.jp and pawoo.net, which are two of the largest Japanese-speaking instances. <- Don't visit those, btw...
People patiently explained that those instances have a massive lolicon problem, and even real CSAM shows up sometimes. Marcan still continued to argue about it, regardless. No pedo vibes here, no sir!

Hector having double standards once again. If those instances are allowing lolicon, and they refuse to ban it, then any decent non-pedophile instance should block them. After all, Hector uses the same logic to justify blocking Hacker News from the Asahi Linux site. At no point did he ever consider any logic like "well HN is one of the biggest tech sites so maybe I shouldn't fully block them" yet he uses this logic for mstdn.jp and pawoo.net for some reason.

pawoo.net
Jesus Christ, Hector, what the fuck are you doing!?

I can't find it now, but I distinctly remember seeing in the recently leaked Goonclown chatlogs that Goonclown was sending minors he was grooming to Pawoo to expose them to CP. Like, that was explicitly stated in the logs.

You can find even more discussion of how notorious Pawoo is for CP by searching "pawoo" on here - it's come up quite a lot in several threads.

I'd be willing to argue this is worth putting in the OP.

I also just noticed that this is one of (if not the only) time Hector has ever stood up for something vaguely resembling principles of freedom if not freedom of speech. He wants KF deplatformed, he wants Hacker News censored, he wants Stallman gone and hates anyone speaking out against the problems with trans people, but somehow THIS is what gets him to say "actually, no, we shouldn't be censoring here"??

Like he claims that "lolicon is not actually CSAM according to German law". That's something he'd NEVER say in defense of KF, which is fully legal in the US. (Ignoring the fact that the Mastodon poster says he's wrong)

Really strange priorities.

So I guess this might be the place to mention this, since the Byuu death data saga seems more elaborated upon in the OP here than anywhere else.

Reading it jiggled my memories of listening to Jesse Singal's Podcast Blocked and Reported. This episode has the bit I wanted to highlight, at around the 8 minute mark where he is issuing notes/corrections on the previous episodes which was about the whole DropKiwiFarms thing.

The tl;dl of it is that he talked to a lawyer that said there are "many innocuous reasons" why a death would not be listed in the infamous US citizen death data. Now, he never elaborated further than that, but reading it here that the only exceptions are natural death or military/US embassy staff death just don't check out to me as particularly innocuous.

Any Kiwi Lawyers could opine on that?

Even more cringe, Asahi Lina is a member of a Vtuber group made up entirely of troon programmers pretending to be anime girls.
They call themselves "nullptr::live". [Archive]

This makes me want to kill byuu all over again.

The tl;dr is that Twitter and other big tech sites are very complex & finicky, and so Twitter was going to crash-and-burn very quickly after Musk fired a whole bunch of employees.
...Well, almost an entire year has passed, and Twitter looks fine to me! :story: Sure, Musk is a dumbass for trying to rebrand it to "X", but that's not an engineering problem. You could maybe point to the rate-limiting thing as a problem, but that's a deliberate choice since Musk was annoyed about Twitter getting scraped by other companies for AI-training. Otherwise, Twitter seems to be operating fine from a tech standpoint. Marcan's prophecy didn't come true. Woops!

I think the reality (which wasn't even a secret) is that old Twitter was run like an adult daycare, with a bunch of failsons & faildaughters lounging around at Twitter HQ - collecting salaries but not doing any real work. I don't even like Musk, but he clearly made the right move in firing them. Marcan didn't understand this for some reason, but he was too arrogant to admit he was wrong. So he just deleted the sperg-out later and didn't say anything.
All these "tech experts" rushed out last year to declare that a multi-billion dollar corporation runs on the same shit they throw up in an afternoon and that Elon was firing all the "press button so not go down" engineers. Like a guy who setup a banking service in the dotcom era, runs a space thingy and car thingy doesn't know where to throw money at to get people to run a corporate tech stack for him and was going to have to read through the error logs himself to figure out what php edits to make.

It's even funnier when you realize their entire narrative was that these people Elon fired were so terrible at their jobs they couldn't, after 15 years and billions of dollars, make a website for posting text/images/videos that wouldn't keel over immediately if all hands weren't on deck.

Jesse Singal didn't say it was a lawyer, he said it was someone in the State Department. Who that is or what position they have could be anyone's guess. (He was talking about an attorney beforehand though, who advised him that they would advise a client confronted with Byuu's "delete my thread or else I'll kill myself" extortion to just not engage, which I believe is the same advice Null got from his own attorney, and which he ended up doing.)

It's possible that the person from the State Department just gave a generic answer (with the "innocuous reasons" they're referring to being embassy/military/natural deaths or hell just being late by a few weeks) and didn't know the question was being asked about an American civilian who supposedly killed himself over a year ago in Japan.

Good point - kinda reminds me of how Vito the Pedo is a free speech warrior master-satirist when he's proclaiming his pedophilia on Twitter but a snivelly little bitchnigger flaggot whenever someone he doesn't like is breaking TOS or ban evading.

I feel like the reason for this odd discrepancy in Hector's supposed principles should be obvious to anyone that isn't kidding themselves.

Turns out the troon running the Mastodon instance Hector Martin uses (Ariadne Conill) had a rare moment of clarity and blocked pawoo's media due to all the CSAM. Note that this isn't a full block and he said he was going to do a full block later, but I can't find any announcement on this and exact moderation policies are only available to logged-in users for "security and safety reasons". Hector is suspiciously absent in the replies.

Unrelated but here's the same troon whining about "whiteness" in the fediverse but not naming the CSAM problem just to remind you of what he's usually like.
