King of the hill appreciation thread - Yup.

Rip Dale

He was unironically correct with every conspiracy.

Johnny's voice really was what made Dale the most iconic character in the show.
RIP
Was it also proven that Dale’s character was based on a mix of Hunter S. Thompson and Alex Jones? Because that even makes it more memorable.

To me, losing a character like Johnny Hardwick is like losing Norm MacDonald when he died to cancer. I’m sitting here with a slight headache acting like this over a fictional character that was not even the star of the show when compared to Hank Hill and his propane.

I’m going to have to re-watch this cartoon again, or just try to remember which episode I was on. This death just seems way out of left field for me.

iirc it's very well established that Judge knew Jones ages before either was really famous

Technically John Redcorn was the first if we count Victor Aaron only making it one season.
Huh, you are right. I keep on forgetting that that Jonathan Joss played Redcorn by season two onward following Victor Aaron's sudden death

I hope this puts the kibosh on the reboot, hard enough to imagine the show without Brittany Murphy but Hardwick was also a producer and writer for the prime years of the show. I know they can get someone who sounds like Johnny (even make it indistinguishable with AI Tools). But really the only thing worse than losing Hardwick would be losing Mike Judge.

Just keep working on B&B Mike, the new seasons are only okay but they still entertain me.

Yea it's best that Mike continues forward with Beavis & Butthead. The new reboot is still entertaining and still better than most other reboots in this day and age. King of the Hill will always be one of the greatest animated shows of all time and it ended on a very triumphant note, so without Johnny Hardwick, we have no Dale. He was the show's huge soul all due to voice acting, executive producing and writing.

Hank and Dale are tied for me as the funniest characters. The show just wouldn't work without him. Boomhauer is only funny in small doses, and Bill is just pathetic. I've already talked about how an adult Bobby acting the way he does would also be sad and not charming.
I suppose they should recast if this show must go on, but I can always tell the difference when this is done in cartoons. "Wrong sounding Muppets", as Family Guy would say.

Reactions: Lizard Pope and TVB
The only episode in the show that didn't feature Dale, or even Johnny Hardwick ever, was the one where Bobby gets sent to military school to follow Cotton's footsteps. But even then, I don't care about that episode because again, Johnny Hardwick wasn't involved. Mike Judge (and also technically Greg Daniels) may be the face of King of the Hill, but Johnny Hardwick was the heart and soul.

I hope so to as nothing about the reboot sounded good.

We lost the voices to Luanne and Lucky, now Dale, and Kahn was going to be recast because the voice actor wasn't Asian. Even the premise of aging up the cast and putting them in modern day sounded like an awful idea.
