Stephen Root was on Adam Carolla's podcast a earlier this summer, and the way he was talking about it, I would guess that they already recorded the dialog for the first season. Is it possible that he might've recorded his lines before his death?

It would certainly be sad, but unfortunately, the people we love do die, and life trudges cruelly along, not even acknowledging the passing. I don't think anyone involved would be as ghoulish as to recast, but having Dale not be around could be a poignant bit of life in Arlen. I'd hope they would at least do a funeral episode.but no Dale would be pointless.
Rip DaleFirst Luanne, then Lucky and now Dale. May his legacy of bug spraying, conspiracy theories and his secret pocket sand weapon carry on.
