Yahtzee can carry a website on his own but the rest of it won't grow if the people around him aren't interesting. It's what killed the Escapist the first time. Once LRR left it turned into Yahtzee carrying a bunch of lolcows.
Not to mention that anyone who wants to become a commentator or creator for the gaming space just goes straight to twitch or youtube these days. There's nothing to be gained from joining one of these sites - By the time your audience is big enough for the Escapist to even learn of your existence and sign your content, you're probably getting more daily traffic on your backlog than the whole website gets.

Bit of a shame too, I was actually an escapist subscriber waaay way back pre-2015, when they were still rocking Miracle of Sound, Shamus Young (RIP dude, had some great industry takes) and the like creating actually interesting content instead of the usual walkthrough content and crap that gaming media was milking at the time. Those folks all left, and nobody is interested in going back now. The insightful people seem to have shifted to competing over who can make the longest video essay on Skyrim, and the creatives like Gavin went independent entirely, to good success.

It's weird to think that ten years ago, while he was the main draw, Yahtzee wasn't the only one. Not just Gavin and Shamus, people genuinely liked coming to the site to see Jim and even Moviebob when they were leashed. I think Lisa Foiles was with them too?

I think the only way around it would be to do offer auditions for a 1 year contract, you submit your show idea, or a VOD of your stream, and if the editors think you have potential, they'll bring you in. But at this point I don't think the kids of today even know what Escapist even is. It'd all be middle aged guys who watched their old content and are trying to recapture their youth, or over the hill creators hoping for an extra shot in the arm to revive their dying channel.

You have to wonder what was going through the decision makers heads when they took movebob back that time to see him and there sight stagnant like it did.
As for Jimbo is he doing anything apart from annoy the locals with his attempts at organising wrestling.

He felt the need to share what he's been up to on discord. Wonder what else goes on in there.
Also trying to be an egirl.

Surprised it took this long for Jim to get a Discord. Though it also makes sense that he waited until he trooned out to get more into discord.

Of fucking course his DnD character is a self described dickgirl (and a bard, only the gayest of queers choose bards for some reason). Remember, not a fetish!

Lisa Foiles' videos were the main site draw for me for a good while

Russ Pitts just wanted someone he knew hated GG as much as he did and thought getting one of the old big guys back would work out for him. And then Zoe got pissed that he did a GamerGate article without her consent and Bob threw him under the bus for it.

As for Jim, I think he still does the podcast and some videos, and that's about it. If he doesn't have to work, he won't.

He must have been on some bender when that idea came to mind, by that time Bob had already been found out fo have genocide leanings towards anyone who wasn't left of Mao, I thought him being brought back was as a tax write off.
As for jim if it wasn't for his pay pigs who would employ him.

I've not played Baldur's Gate 3 but I have played Original Sin 2 and I find it very hard to believe that he is "too ADHD addled" to play DOS2 but is perfectly comfortable playing BG3 and real D&D.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=7vo9z7MTE2EJims talking about Baldur's Gate 3's smashing success
Review of this video
>Jesus Christ 27 minutes long, I'm going to skip ahead often
fat mad hatter.jpg
>Wasn't Jim Mad Hatter hat red? So now he has at least two of those things. Also the toy on the left looks like some weird fantasy Klansman
>At the two minute mark Jim has a skit of "quotes" from people raving about BG3. This goes for a full minute. Jim has no respect for anyone's time
disgusting.jpg
>I want to vomit
>Jim claims someone at Larian told him they were interested in having him voice act for the game but never contacted him again. If they had hired him I would have not bought the game. I put up with bear sex I would not stand giving jim any kind of win
>Jim claims he's writing a narrative for an upcoming game. He has too much ADHD to play most games (beyond BG3) but can write fiction?

I can't stand anymore of this bloated video so I skipped to the halfway point when Jim starts talking about the controversy of game devs complaining that not all games can be Baldur's Gate 3. Jim goes into his psuedo Marxist rant that they're right and he'd rather destroy BG3 than have it make the industry more grueling for the employees. And this is just a dumb take.

No one who has worked at Larian has complained that making Baldur's Gate 3 was detrimental to them. No whining of crunch time or abusive management. Larian's employees seem exceedingly happy to be employed and to have made this game. So unlike say "The Last of Us 2" where we did hear about employees being miserable BG3 can currently stand as an example of how Game Development should work. Game studios should be run by a experienced leader who knows what game they want to make and develops it until it's in a releasable state.

I'm so amused at how people act like Baldur's Gate 3 is such a rare anomaly of a game. There's nothing that's actually groundbreaking with Baldur's Gate 3. Turn Based RPGs have been done for decades anyone ever heard of Ultima? One of the most popular media franchises is Pokemon and the big Pokemon releases are all Turn Based RPGs. And finally Bioware did the cinematic RPG with Knights of the Old Republic and most of all Dragon Age Origins. What Larian smartly noticed was that these types of games have been foolishly ignored by the gaming industry and they took advantage of that as the only similar style games were being made on an indie budget. It's akin to how everyone stopped making 2D Platformers and then Nintendo made a killing with New Super Mario Bros. Not every game needs to be innovative, sometimes you just need to recognize that there's an untapped market for popular genre that's been ignored.

That was how it worked in the past with the Escapist, LRR got their foot in the door by winning the competition that created Unskippable.

The only aspect of BG3 that is a genuine surprise if how far its managed to penetrate into the mainstream, I know people IRL who aren't CRPG nerds that were excited for BG3 but couldn't tell you anything else Larian made. Its not even like the genre was dead, CRPGa have had a real resurgence over the years with plenty of quality titles being made by both small indie devs and mid-sized teams the only difference between the quality stuff being put out in the last few years (even DOS2) and BG3 is that it has a AAA level of polish.

Its just like how CDPR (a AA studio) went above and beyond and pushed out what could be considered a AAA game.
