Some inside information on LOCALS: the HTML on the chat page used to show the names of everyone in the chat (great INFOSEC!) publicly. It no longer does. I had planned to use that feature to collect some metrics, but it seems they locked that down. It is unclear if they still have access to the user list on the backend. I say yes, because they pull 3 PFPs to show by the active chat participant numbers.

Speaking of active chat participant numbers, LOCALS counts all the people who watch the chat in the active chat participant number--regardless if they are paid supporters or not. They also added a feature to let you chat and pay per chat:

Unfortunately, yes. The documentary is apparently devoid of interviews from any of the social media personalities that covered the trial.

Consider this paragraph from an August 15th review by the Chicago Sun Times, which seems to be referencing TUG in the second part.

Content that they scraped from his VODs. Amusingly he was one of the few social media commentators that was never referenced again.

Put the series in the background on a side monitor while doing other things. It was a slog even while just listening to the audio.

The guy they reference in a Deadpool mask is some random guy who calls himself "Darth News" and went to the trial and then streamed from a hotel room while in a Deadpool mask (I think I saw a Spiderman costume hanging in the back of some of the shots )

Rekieta's cameos are extraordinarily brief and mainly come at the start of the series. There are two I count in the first part of the miniseries:

1. They put in his intro, but it seems like (unless Nick scuffed his own intro that day) they must have cut off and spliced his "Lawsplaining the Interwebs" intro speech because Nick just says "Welcome to Lawsplaining".
2. He also provides the voiceover as the parties walk in the courtroom, introducing the case and then he compliments Depp's tie in a way that makes him sound a little, uh, slow.

That's about it. Nick then basically disappears. There is at least one clip of his stream later that lasts a maybe a second that I noticed, and for all I know potentially a few like that that I missed, but either way it seems that the vast majority of his airtime was bunched in the first half of the first of three episodes in the miniseries. I definitely got the impression from the trailer that he would be more prominent than what he actually was.

Andy Signore is present in the documentary way, way more than Nick. Same with Emily Baker. Legal Bytes is the opposite of Nick; her content isn't anywhere in the first part of the miniseries and starts appearing later.

I'll save you 150 minutes: the clear implication is that the trial was made unfair because of the sheer volume of social media commentary. I got the message after the first montage of people extremely glued to their phones watching the trial or social media content about the trial. Then that bit got repeated many times.

TL;DR: Nick Rekieta was more the star of Anime Matsuri 2023 than he was of this documentary.

Apparently, on August 16th, one of Andy Signore's videos got monetized (but not outright struck) by Netflix. In said video, he commented over footage from the documentary that included Signore himself. Signore is further claiming the documentary is deceptively edited by Emma Cooper to suggest that he covered the trial because he's "in cahoots" with Johnny Depp. You can view his recent video about that here if you are so inclined. I didn't notice any deceptive editing, TBH. The most deceptive edit I found was where they made it sound like Nick's show is just called "Lawsplaining" because I guess the extra second to say "the Interwebs" was too much to give to him.

I would say the documentary clearly has a point of view that the social media reaction was vitriolic and unfair. It's definitely not neutral, but I didn't see anything overtly deceptive.

And that's with the active userbase here being appreciably less than what it normally is. I've noticed there's still a lot of users who are still MIA because of the clearnet domain B.S.. Hell, @5t3n0g0ph3r hasn't been seen since May (I hope he's okay). I feel like this thread, and the site in general, was overall more active earlier in the year before the main Kiwifarms domain went down.

AFAIK, there's been speculation as to what his contract requires, but nobody knows for sure.

I'm predicting he's not getting a renewal. I just don't see what value he brings to platform. I maintain they signed him thinking they were getting a legal show, but are now facing abject disappointment over that decision.

Meanwhile, over on Youtube, he's lost approximately 10K subs in 10 months. That's by no means the most catastrophic loss I've ever seen (you usually see way more sub loss, as part of a full blown scandal, replete with backlash from other Youtubers), but it's not good.

I dunno if Anna's story about him being in charge is true, but to my eye those looks like basic banners the convention made up. IOW, he had no input in their design. It's possible he was in charge, but then didn't do a goddamned thing.
