Well I know in criminal cases the first continuance is granted pretty much by default.

I think in this case it might just piss the judge off since Fatrick is trying to delay the contempt hearing that was brought about because he keeps delaying paying his court ordered judgement. So hopefully he gets told off if he doesn't show up to the hearing with a lawyer.

Generally yes, it doesn't have to be a good one but it should be if you want the court to like you. Most of the time you want the court to like you, so, yes.

Even a good one doesn't necessarily obligate the judge to accept it, as a pro se litigant a request for continuation would be rubber stamped a lot of the time, the complication here is that Hamlinson is already up for contempt so the judge may decide Fatprick has wasted enough of everyone's time.

Here's a protip from someone who's spent a lot of time in civil court: don't let the judge get deja vu in your case for any reason, everyone involved Will Not Like It

To the more well versed in american laws: If granted, what would you guys say is the normal/expected amount of days in similar cases? What's the limit (worst case scenario)?

Is that because the perp is in jail and hasn’t had access to a lawyer yet though? Piggy had Miller Lawyers draw up his amortisation plan (and then since their own fees were included, I assume he stiffed them) but it’s not like he hasn’t had legal advice and plenty of time to get more.

He’s going to ask for time to find a lawyer, then hire one at the last minute so they can file for another continuance to familiarize themselves with the case. Pat can probably stretch this to late September or early October if he really wants to.
 
Quasi's lawyer gets a chance to oppose this motion. And gets to submit exhibits in support. This could be an interesting self-own, considering all that Patso and Nikki have been blubbering about in interviews, allowing Quasi's lawyer to add all sort of interesting and relevant goodies to his response. The deadline for filing motions in this matter passed Thurday or Friday? Motions are supposed to be 5 days or more before the hearing in cases like this, but IANAL. Is Patso filing this Pro Se?

Honestly at this point there's no reason to even bother hiring a lawyer. Pat could assemble a legal team consisting of Johhnie Cochran, Atticus Finch and Saul Goodman and he would still lose this shit. He's fucked, and no amount of delaying or burying his head in the sand is going to change that. It's time to face the music, Mr. Tomlinson.

I wonder. Maybe Pat wants to flee to a new state thinking he can escape the judgement? Would that even work?
This is assuming he has the money to afford moving, which he most likely does not have.
He may also have run out of niggers to turn into pepperoni and must move on to greener pastures to maintain his considerable FAT.

D: He has no strategy, only a paradoxical blend of desperately flailing for any way out and smug, irrationally confident oinking.

The contrast between the two is so severe I can't help suspect that he has a serious mental illness, in addition to the obvious corpulent mental retardation.

Yeah I think he’s just going to try to drag this out as long as he can. I also think he believes his in camera appearance to ask for the continuance will be his chance to tell the judge in private why he doesn’t have to pay. Pat’s magical thinking tells him he just has to keep buying time until he gets a windfall (maybe from his fantasy lawsuit against MPD) or Quasi dies. He still believes he will never pay a dime and will not suffer for it, somehow.
