Who's responsible for the state of modern CWC? - A discussion.

If you look at the intake survey from 2004 you can see that the doctor wrote that his thought process was "logical and linear" and "he seemed to have good insight into his limitations." Not saying his autism isn't a factor but it's not exactly severe.

Defining "high functioning" autism is obviously controversial. But generally speaking what separates it from profound autism is the presence of stunted linguistic and cognitive development. I don't need to go into his cognitive issues. And by his own admission he didn't speak until he was seven. He is NOT high functioning.

I thought I'd make another topic since its a question that I find myself thinking about when we talk about Chris, especially in light of recent developments. Which party within Chris's life did the most damage to him? There are 4 key people/groups that have interacted with CWC (and the man himself)

Chris- He's done nothing to acknowledge his own mistakes and has taken no initiative to fix any of his problems. For years when a obvious rake is placed in front of CWC he would valiantly walk into it. Many times he would react in ways truly bizarre and learn nothing. However he has autism and you cant ignore that. It could have been blunted by...

Borb- Chris's parents have been a near total detriment to his life. Not only did they keep crucial therapy from CWC when he was younger due to bob's superstitions, they have taught him only bad life lessons and passed on their worse traits. Also they chose to do nothing about...

The trolls- Once entertaining prodding quickly became a council of individuals that managed Chris's life and increased the border of his delusions far over the horizon. Horrible things were done to CWC that were no longer funny as much as obsessive or creepy. Think the Bluespike incident. They were no replacement for CWC's...

Extended family- Cole has been absent from CWCs life. Probably for good reason since borb's behaviour was notorious. He didn't try to help Chris much thought, like....

The State- The government has left Chris and his dysfunctional family fall through the cracks. However there is a limited amount of action they could take due many factors.

While it would be dishonest to ignore anyone listed (especially Chris and borb) I wonder if there's a party ultimately responsible for modern CWC. What does everyone think? Is there a actor that should be exonerated or completely condemned? Should different groups share the responsibility more?

The parents coddle him into a state of social suicide and Chris doesn't have the ability to discern whether he should try and avoid his parent's coddling.

Everything in cwc's life has affected him, no matter how minor. All of what you mentioned has affected Chris in some way. The person who is most responsible is Chris himself.

Phil's constant emulation of Chris' antics, along with competition for our precious attention, has caused Chris to constantly seek anything that Phil wouldn't try to copy. Now it's a constant struggle of keep-ahead vs follow-the-leader.

It's a perfect storm, really:

• Borb's failing as parents. The world has passed them by so hard that they raised a modern-age child with the ideals and sensibilities of someone growing up in the middle of the 20th century. The idea of trolls and the internet was so utterly confusing that it was easier for them to just pretend it's nothing major. It also didn't help that their method of parenting was "distract the child with cartoons and videogames so we don't have to deal with him for the next few hours". Borb didn't raise Chris, cartoons raised Chris.
• Inadequate public schools that have a long tradition of doing just the bare minimum in regards to developmentally challenged students.
• Being the easiest target on the fucking planet. There are thousands of people out there that will act inappropriately when it comes to being publicly shamed on the internet, but Chris is a whole different game altogether. A vast majority of the grosser details we all know about Chris come straight from Chris himself. His lack of a filter, coupled with his inability to learn what's appropriate to share and what isn't, led to so many people just drawn the the flaming train wreck that is Chris. After all, how many years has it been since shecameforcwc.jpg?

Parents. Easy question

They raised him with hoarding and not punishing him. He never learnt the basics of life and to accomplish anything reasonable.
They praised him when he did something wrong and supported him even when he was in the wrong.
Because of that, Chris can't seem to wrap his head around reality cause he was introduced to it.

Plus, if they really cared; he would've been working, not playing video games all day

Although all of the options have had some influence on today's Chris, I think a lot of them trace back, in some way or another, to Borb and their subpar parenting skills.

They never taught Chris how to cope with his autism, learn to be independent, and act like a mature and (semi-)well-adjusted adult. And they openly resisted anyone who tried to do so themselves. At least twice, their reaction to someone trying to discipline Chris was to sue them.

Their influence was easily one of the most damaging. Chris has become inextricably used to the idea that no matter what he does, his parents will almost always come to save the day or do the hard work for him... because that's how his entire life has been thus far. Soon Chris will be responsible for his own life, and Borb didn't prepare him for it at the most crucial stages.

It's absolutely a mix of everything, though that's less because he had a bunch of small problems and more that he had a perfect goddamn storm of disabilities, character traits, awful parenting, and terrible luck. Regarding modern, taint-cutting Chris in particular, can we blame Kemgle and whomever else encouraged Chris instead of mocking him when he decided he had a 'female soul'? I know he has/had a weird cadre of enablers on Facebook, do they count as trolls?

I would say adding white knights to who is to blame might not be a bad idea

Chris is one of the most thoroughly documented people in the world who's still alive.

He literally could not have turned out to be more influential and successful than he already is.

If he were a normal person, Catparty and Framergirl wouldn't be engaged. I'm glad that whatever made him this way happened.

Honestly I feel that people overstate how detrimental the trolls were to Chris' life. Even if the trolls never existed and Chris was never discovered, the ED page was never created, where would we be? Chris might not be as crazy as he is now, but he'd still be a fat, lazy, autistic man-child in his mid-thirties, living in his mom's house, getting banned from retail outlets and throwing tantrums over blarms. He'd still be living with a hoarder and burning his house down, shitting his pants regularly and living off government assistance because he's too lazy to work.

All of the most horrible stuff that's happened to Chris happened without input from the trolls. Trolls didn't run over Michael Snyder, Chris did. Trolls didn't get Chris suspended from PVCC, Chris did. Trolls didn't destroy a deep and mutual friendship with Megan, they simply put the final nail in the coffin of a relationship that was already on its last leg.

But anyways, for the state of modern CWC, I really think it's a combination of Chris and Borb. Borb is partly to blame because of how adamantly they refused to get Chris the psychological help he so desperately needed, by trying to 'mainstream' him and ironically making him more mentally unstable that he already was. Chris is partly to blame because, even from trolls, he's gotten countless messages and emails telling him how to improve his life. He's had white knights tell him over and over and over again what he's doing wrong and how he can fix it. He's had actual women give him perfectly reasonable, step-by-step processes on how to get a girlfriend. And all of this perfectly good advice was thrown away because Chris is too narcissistic and lazy to do any kind of meaningful work.

I don't blame the trolls for the current state of Chris. Most of the time, the trolls simply laughed at his stupidity and pulled cheap gags to get a rise out of him, like pretending to be Shigeru Miyamoto or calling him Ian Branden Something. The rest of Chris' life is the result of his own very poor, very lazy life choices.

This is absolutely correct. Chris' life was spinning out of control long before anyone on the internet knew who he was. He had been shitcanned from PVCC before we found him, banned from malls for harassing people, banned from his English class for unruly behaviour. The list goes on and on. Long before the ED page was created, Chris already had a whole paranoid mythology about the conspiracy against him - with Mary Lee Walsh, the manajerks, the jerkops and Count Graduon all uniting to ruin his chances of finding True Love because Virginia is for virgins. Count Graduon, Chris' personification of high school graduation, is clear evidence that in Chris' mind his life went wrong at that point, years before the ED page went up. His investment in grand conspiracies reflects his internalisation of the paranoid beliefs of Bob and Barb who taught him about the Greene County Conspiracy and how the evil school board tried to institutionalise him.

No doubt the trolls have had some deeply unsavoury influence over Chris but the guy was already way off the rails in 2004 and I simply see no evidence that his life would be significantly better if we'd never discovered him. People often talk about the deleterious effect of the cwcki and ED on Chris, but I think that overlooks the fact that he was unable to form social bonds or relationships before ED existed. Before ED, he didn't have a job, friends, relationships, hygiene, a dress sense or the ability to interact with other people; all ED and cwcki did was document his craziness. I can see comparatively few things in Chris' life that can be blamed completely and entirely on the trolls. In particular, when we talk about the things that have got Chris into serious trouble with the authorities, trolls had no part to play. It was all Chris and it all began long before the trolls found him.

Borb. Barb probably never truly cared but Bob at least tried, at least a little bit to make him a better person, to teach him about independence and the world. When all he cared about was electric hedgehog pokemon he gave up. He was old and tired, we can't entirely blame him, however little he tried. Barb sat there, filling her house with useless shit and refused to help chris when he truly needed a slap and a speech.

Bob did try to push Chris in a positive direction, in his own way. At the same time you can't really argue he was as firm as he needed to be. Bob was just as prone to baseless conspiracy theories and finger pointing as his whole family is. He didn't understand the kind of position Chris was in with the autism and ended up making excuses for him as a result. He should have been forcing Chris to get a job and telling him to get off the internet, he should have gotten Chris the help he needed when he was a kid instead of trying to pretend he was "normal" like he actually did. And, like I said, Bob had that habit of making excuses for Chris just like Barbara did.

I think it's unfair to "blame" Chris's parents necessarily, but they really had no idea how to raise an autistic kid and they seriously just left him alone by himself and didn't really take any steps to help him, as far as we can tell. Bob loved his son, he just didn't understand him. Whenever we got audio recordings or whatever of Bob talking about Chris you can tell he really doesn't understand what's going on with his kid anymore than Chris does. He knows Chris has problems, but he blames the rest of the world more than Chris himself seemingly.

At this stage talking won't work on Chris. If you need Chris to get something done you should do it with a iron fist and force him into it. Like I said before, Chris isn't the type of person who is allowed to have freedom. All he does is performing self-destructive behavior.
