If you look at the intake survey from 2004 you can see that the doctor wrote that his thought process was "logical and linear" and "he seemed to have good insight into his limitations." Not saying his autism isn't a factor but it's not exactly severe.
Defining "high functioning" autism is obviously controversial. But generally speaking what separates it from profound autism is the presence of stunted linguistic and cognitive development. I don't need to go into his cognitive issues. And by his own admission he didn't speak until he was seven. He is NOT high functioning.
