Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

It's the biggest joke being played on the morons who want that full hi-def stuff
Just look at the endless amount of 80k texture mods that only touch shit like wood slats, ropes or even fucking ants on a log etc that no one would ever notice unless you've played a game for a million hours and are just looking for things to cry about. Cool dude, you made a mod that let's me see the minute stitching or welding details on something you still won't notice unless you hyper focus in it. I'm sure that was totally worth the hours it took to make and is totally worth the framerate drop. Sure am glad I've got autistically rendered leather that looks, at best, slightly better than the base model at a glance.

I liked it in Parasite Eve 2 as well, must be latent consoomer instincts.
Don't forget the greatest meta-advertisement in gaming history.

In my book, framerate drops are far worse than bland textures. Especially when it's just some part of the environment that I ignore half the time anyways. I'm OK with 2013 graphics so long as the gameplay and visuals are well-designed.

The fact that anyone is defending a Bethesda game against accusations of poor performance and bugs at launch shows just what mindless consoomers this industry caters to.
They've had defenders for damn near as long as I can remember, and the common refrain was always mods and fans fix shit. I know I've said it several times, and one of my original unpopular opinions here was some sort of mods do not make a game good/should not be a reason to get a game; mainly focusing at Bethesda, because their inability to not fuck shit up is routinely excused by the work of others. I laughed in everyone's fucking face when Fallout 76 came out and because it was online, their precious little fucking community of modders couldn't save them, and suddenly, for a moment, they realized Bethesda is shit... but Starfield doesn't require an Internet connection, so it's back to white knighting for them.

Wow. Fallout 4 gets two whole points over Morrowind. Most old-school fans would lynch you for such ideas.
I'm sure those same idiots would lynch me because I played it on Xbox. And later bought the GotY collection on PC CD-ROM, only to find modding overwhelming. And then later bought it on Steam, but had no interest in even trying to play it again. Morrowind is full of fundamental flaws, and is a miserable experience by today's standards. If it came out today, the Xbox version would be considered unplayable, and every gaming forum would be freaking out over the Cliff Racers.

If any of you reading this haven't played Morrowind, the Cliff Racer is a pterodactyl-looking flying enemy that attacks you constantly, and very early on. They have a lot of HP, and your low level will mean your accuracy will be dirt, so you'll spend a lot of time dealing with them being damage sponges. And they're constant. And Morrowind's combat sucks, because there's no graphical feedback when you make a hit. There are mods to remove Cliff Racers, but they were never officially patched out.

Morrowind is 100% propped up by nostalgia.

Here's my unpopular opinion. Playing games on low settings is fine and ultra settings is nothing but a scam to get people to buy meme cards.
Low settings on high end hardware seems to be the way to go with a lot of modern shitty bloated games. We're long past the days when low settings begat shadows where you could see the rough polygons of their characters.

It doesn’t bother me so much on consoles, especially old ones, but I paid a small fortune for a powerful computer, and I better not see anything drop below 60fps at 1440p until the 2030s.

Starfield is a big retarded fiasco right now because niggas with RTX 4090s, a video card that costs between $1600-$2000, are seeing framerates drop into the single digits at dense places. Criticizing the game just triggers a bunch of trolls and retards into screaming "LOL U'RE JUST MAD ABOUT THE PRONOUNS", therefore making the game immune to criticism for its plethora of problems. It's all such a huge mess that there isn't even enough room to point out how this is the first game we've all seen that really, truly demands to be installed on an SSD, and is the ever-ridiculous size of 100gb for no good reason. Starfield alone is pushing the Overton window for games into ever more consumer-hostile territory.

It's less about whether or not games are playable at lower frame rates, it's about how our machines are so powerful that there shouldn't really be anything that runs at less than 60fps at 1080p on a modern midrange computer now, yet the newest big game is a total trainwreck that makes even the strongest PCs chug. A computer with a four-figure video card shouldn't run a game worse than a $300 Xbox Series S, yet here we are.
Immune to criticism? Nigger the game is catching nothing but shit outside of paid reviewers just like everything they've done since Morrowind. Are you fucking retarded or just consooming content you disagree with to cry about like everyone else who boohoos over the Church of Todd? What sort of bizarro land do we live in where you think a bethesda game ISN'T getting ripped a new asshole?

Damn. Reminds me of the Brutes from Halo 2; they're fast, they're damage sponges, and they hit like a truck, except those bastards at least have the headshot weakness, so if you're good with headshots, you can mow down a whole squad of them no problem.

Morrowind is 100% propped up by nostalgia.
It pretty much is. You look at the people whining about how great Morrowind is compared to Skyrim, and it's people who play the shit out of Skyrim anyways. Which is hilarious. At least the people backing the Skywind mod are more honest; they want Morrowind with Skyrim's graphics, and that's a reasonable demand given that Morrowind's graphics have aged like milk.

The game is going to catch a lot of shit.......from the same people who are going to be addicted to it for the next 200 hours of their game time. In other words, the sky is blue.

@Matt Damon Just to clear up something earlier in the exchange between you two:
I don't think so. EA went a little bit sequel mad around that time and loads of their franchises got sequels.
The first game was an Xbox 360 exclusive since they were fond of Jade Empire and Kotor and having their own "Star Wars" space opera franchise was an exclusive they were missing. Pinnacle Station never left the 360. Microsoft pushed hard for the franchise and published it only to give up rights for the second since it under-performed. "Choices matter" was meant for just the game, not series, since the whole "it's going to have a sequel" didn't arise until after its launch. I sank over a 1000 hours into that game on console, bought the PC version later only for it to play absolutely worse, the opposite of Dragon Age.

The game was just a top down RPG played actively and in third person. It really wasn't a third person shooter. There's always an online argument about the second game saving the franchise or bringing it to the mainstream but it was always a console space opera from the start and at the release of 2, everyone who liked the first mostly shit on it for ruining the series by turning it into Gears of War. I guess it's just being blinded from the dumpster fire that the third game was. That said, the gameplay was only ever "good" in the third game. I guess saying the first was genuinely a good game if you just aren't expecting a shooter counts as an unpopular opinion.

The fact that cliff racers are such steaming dogshit that they ditched flying enemies for the most part in Oblivion. Then you just had dragons dropping in on you unannounced in Skyrim. Gunships in Fallout 4 too but those usually go into a death spin and smash into the dirt from light damage. Way too goddamned much.

I was mostly just clarifying the timeline of sequels and misconceptions about the marketing of it but
that feels terrible to play
it really just plays like an older RPG where you aim instead of click:
>enemy encounter
>prioritize the one mostly likely to fuck your shit up
>hit power wheel button
>spam your powers that will help
>if it's immobilized or dead clean up trash with gun but aim instead of click as everything is automatic
>kill Geth Prime/Colossus/Krogan/whatever if it wasn't already

It's the same as older games just with aiming since it needed to be played from a controller. Its entire gameplay was putting an older RPG on controller.

I'm just going to chalk this up to playing different things prior. Its gameplay was about the best you could hope for on a controller. It was like the Starcraft: Ghost that actually released. It evolved into a true third person cover shooter for the seond because 50% of the playerbase just chose Soldier and complained the dakka wasn't the priority. Don't mistake this for saying the shooting gameplay was good, just that it was mostly there to be the equivalent on targeting while your hotkeys on our cooldown. It clicked a lot for me since that genre was on life support when it released.

Was available on PC. I think redeeming it was weird and fucked up though, I think I had to get bioware to email me a code?

Either way they fucked up the source code, it wasn't an "only on Xbox" situation.

I fucking HATED Mass Effect on the 360, it felt clunky and floaty and wrong. Got it for five bux in that first Steam Christmas sale and loved it on PC. all of my complaints about the 360 version were addressed by simply switching to mouse and keyboard.

I stand corrected. I remember Bringing Down the Sky requiring like an installer that had DRM attached that was buggy as shit and would just break if you tried with the code and it failed. I just thought the DLC never released on PC.

The PC version for me would crash with Garrus in the party randomly and when scrapping things in the menu pretty regularly. The controls weren't really the issue with the first but the menus. PC had better inventory and such menus but the power wheel and such were fine on console. Also, you could marginally do more commands with squad mates on PC but that almost never really mattered. The PC hacking/omni gel minigame thing was worse but I always just used the omni-gel override.

Edit: Pinnacle Station was actual garbage that the only way to clear it on Insanity was a biotic build and abusing it. I don't remember if it even had good rewards since you got the best omni tool or armor in Bringing Down the Sky.
