Interesting question. There's two points of no return with alcoholics: The psychological and the physiological.

Physically, he can reverse the damage and bring himself back to proper fitness. He's not too late in that regards. It'd be an uphill battle and would need him to take other aspects of his health more seriously too, drinking more water, exercising more regularly, and so on.

Mentally? He's fucked. It takes brainpower and self-discipline to navigate quitting alcohol. His alcoholic mind has spent years learning justifications for his behaviors, excuses for his consumption of booze. Unless he can navigate escaping that mental prison on his own, he'll need therapy and there's no way this ego-driven freak will do that. In my opinion, he's gone too far down this road mentally to turn back now short of a form of life ruination (self-inflicted) that drives him to seek redemption.

If you believe in an omnipotent God then no one is beyond help. MUCH bigger fuckups than Nick have straightened their lives out. But possibility and probability are two different metrics.

BTW, I don’t think the alcoholic label is even necessary here. Nick is fucking up his kids and regardless of the cause, he needs help. Unfortunately he’s EXTREMELY invested in the “I got this” act. Most fuckups usually are.

Pain and love are the two great motivators. Nick loves his family but typically pain is what forces a person to cry “Uncle!” Sadly for Nick’s family, he will likely have to experience much more intense psychic pain before he is humbled enough to admit he doesn’t have it all figured out.

He isn't anywhere near where Ralph is. Ralph may not even survive getting off the xanax. Just trying to get ralph clean would be really difficult and would require alot of hospital care.

The big problem would be convincing Nick to admit he has a problem, go to rehab or do AA. He hates his parents. I think he would leave his wife and kids rather than give up drinking. The labor day family event where he ditched his family to defend the honor of Drexel and Vito on the internet suggests they mean very little to him anymore.

His best friends are Dick Masterson and Drexel. Both of them would enable Nick's worst behavior and help convince him that whoever tells him to go to rehab is the problem.

I think the only thing that would convince Nick that he has a problem would be something horrific. His wife walking out on him, him getting abusive with either wife/kids, crashing a car or ending up in the hospital.
