  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Also, while I am here, here's a handy list of guidelines for driving on various kinds of roads:

In the perspective of right side driving.
Simply swap left and right if in left side driving country.

Narrow unmarked road (narrow dirt/gravel, streets restricted by double side parking) aka true-single lane:
Vehicles should take turns allowing eachother to pass, small should yield to large vehicles due to ease of maneuvering, low cost and high speed of start/stop.

Single lane, marked middle line:
:)

Two Lane road, undivided:
Stay in right lane except to pass or if you intend to make a left turn. Left lane should be expected to be slower due to left turning vehicles. Also gives more space between you and opposing traffic.

Two lane divided, highways, roads with dividers, turning lanes:
Stay in right lane, except to pass.
On a road: move to the left lane if about to turn left (duh).
On a highway: Try to move to left lane temporarily if a lane is merging, to allow accellerating vehicles some room.

Three lane highway:
Left lane is passing lane, Middle lane is cruising lane, right lane is interaction lane.
Stay in cruising lane to avoid any troubles from merging lanes. Move into interaction lane if your exit is coming up.
Keep the left lane open for emergency vehicles when possible.

Four lane highway:
Rare, generally works out to be same as three lane, but with two cruising due to high traffic volume.

Five+ lane highway:
Extremely rare, usually only short runs due to many routes joining to pass through a large city before diverging again.
If you end up here just follow the signs and hope for the best. There will be no cruising here.

May God help you.

Also, another few tips, in driving efficiently brake-wise:
Minimize brake use, any amount of braking you do exclusively wastes your energy as heat. Coasting is better, while slower, if you can afford it. The reason is that your car's ECU will stop giving gas to the engine and instead use the car's momentum to keep the engine turning. So while you slow down in a coast, you are using zero gas. Especially if you are going uphill, there is next to zero good reason to use the brakes to slow down outside of an emergency on a steep upwards grade.
Obviously slowing down via coasting is far far less effective than braking, so try to coast closer to the original speed, then use the brakes closer to where you want to stop so you don't slow down traffic.

On a downwards grade, using the brakes exclusively is a bad idea, since it just shaves down the pads, heats up the rotors and warps them over time.
Put the car into a lower gear (yes even in automatic, they let you do that for this reason) to take up most the braking load. A CVT is excellent at doing this effectively, but if you have a good understanding of your car's gear ratios and what RPM the engine stops powered idling and instead pulls from the transmission this can be effective. Then just use the brakes for more control, and safety. (PLEASE use the brakes while downshifting, as downshifting slows down your car fast without the brake lights coming on).

A bonus on downshifting on a downwards grade; not only does it save your brakes, but you run your A/C and alternator at higher power with the same energy that would otherwise be wasted as heat via the brakes. Don't be too aggresive in downshifting though, keep it at max what you usually see on the highway in terms of RPM. Constant high RPMs like that put lots of wear on the drivetrain, but highway RPMS are extremely well designed for (in a good car).

that's right before or after the 805 merge isn't it? any major freeway merge is gonna be a massively wide clusterfuck
I think it's for both southbound on the 5 and northbound on 805 have that wide ass lane. Northbound on the 805 it merges to the 5 and splits off 2 lanes to the 56 for a total of 6 lanes. Pretty sure it's the same story southbound on the 5. It's effectively a 3 highway split.

Even after the mess is complete north of 56 you're still 5 lanes+HOV lane in each direction for quite a while.

A bike trailer for groceries is normal and very effective if you are able to safely bike to and from a grocery store. I got groceries by bike in fair weather for years with just a milk crate on the back of my bike and a basket just fine. I could even get cat litter if I felt up to a bit more exercise.

Cargo bikes on the other hand look mentally retarded and make for unsafe riding around them on dedicated bike paths. Plus they cost like $8000, and aren't safe to leave unattended.

Add scooter drivers to the list. Those guys have no sense of self preservation and the added mix of typical Asian drivers doesn't help either. When my parents came to visit me abroad they saw two different scooter accidents on their first day alone. At least those ones were tame, I have seen some gnarly ones that makes me not want to get on a scooter ever.

/r/fuckcars goes grocery shopping:
Honestly this just looks more complicated than it needs to be. I just use a decent sized bag with thermal lining to carry my stuff home, if you are living alone or with a partner then that really should be all you need. Also, some of those cargo bikes looks unwieldy and would be a pain/liability to use in urban areas.

I live in a small city outside a major urban area it's completely walkable we have underground tunnels to get through traffic we have civilian Bridges but they hate it because again it's a suburb mainly.
It's also heavily Republican

The same reason that they never talk about the shooting of Ta'Kiya or Nahel, even though in both cases, I agree with the full urbanist mentality in calling them entitled drivers who were using their cars as weapons and were shot in justified self-defense.

Yes, they're not wired to deal with niggers. And yes, it's not bike vs car, it's niggers vs the rest of polite society.
