Not as wide a net as GPS, less satellites, but more than enough to get a bomb generally on target
Acceptable margin of error for calls for fires in the US is 10m. You can easily get that with 3 satellites. But based on this chart at least 4 will be up in the region at any given time, so it'll be fine. GPS' 26 sat coverage is used for like 3D modelling of construction with a precision of .001", slightly more precise than Slav danger close.

Again, having the ability to get 4 satellites in a area when you only need 3 is a luxury the US has that Russia doesn't. Basically agree for the most part but want to expound. GPS has a lot more processing power, that's true. But to say GLONASS can't hit the broadside of a barn is disenguous. It's more in the middle. And generally is spread thinner due to having less sats online. But it is still lethal, and cannot be discounted when a TU-22M drops its load from 50'000 feet.

Pig is propagandizing and not giving the sober truth on the matter. He's making things seem FAR more lopsided than they actually are. A satellite guided bomb is a massive threat to any army.

David knowing anything technical would be a shock.

In his T-14 video he repudiates the adage "if it ain't broke don't fix it" with WELL IF YOU DON'T LIKE INNOVATION THEN STOP USING FONE

I suppose this philosophy passes for some practical engineering wisdom in his head, but for me it was the only evidence I needed to see conclusively that the whole military analyst act is really just an act and he's some hearts of iron playing midwit at best. Add that to his reddit moderator style snarkasm and voice that I can only describe as "obviously fat" and you almost have a perfect case for capitalism lifting even the most painfully useless people to impressive heights. I still hope he falls off though.

I'm a welder, I say it a lot but it bears repeating. While SOMETIMES you just need to toss out the old, because it's completely obsolete, take, I don't know, steam powered cars, even then, you still often times will carry a lot of knowledge over from previous projects and iterations. And something old that "just works" even if it's less efficient than the new thing, has one thing very important about it: safety. You know it inside and out. All it's pros and cons. You know how far you can push it. New tech is very skittish in comparison. He clearly doesn't have a car or hasn't touched a old one, and seen the clever user friendly engineering from back in the day compared to now.

Anecdotal evidence: one of my colleagues used to work in gas extraction. He went on a business trip to Russia about 10 years ago, and since his GPS also had GLONASS functionality built in he decided to test them both while out in the fields. In his experience, GLONASS was off the mark compared to GPS by between 15 and 75 meters most of the time, and sometimes it took a while to get signal in the first place. Of course, this was with a civilian model (one would expect the military stuff to be better), but on the other hand I don't think the Russians have really improved that system much in the past 10 years of sanctions and procurement skullduggery.

In the end, I'm sure the Russians can use GLONASS to navigate their vehicles just fine (assuming they're not jamming the signal themselves), and if you're chucking large bombs or heavy ballistic missiles around missing by 30 feet or 150 feet might not make much of a difference. Accuracy is a lot more relevant when you're talking about smaller warheads being fired singly to take out point targets, after all.

That all said, Russian artillery and cruise missiles haven't been particularly accurate this war. Whether it's due to design flaws, old tech, old maps, or whatever, it's a far more nuanced subject than LazerPig's mindset will allow for. So he deems the system to be completely unusable instead.

That philosophy is perfectly valid since innovation for its own sake can be a waste of time and resources, but first it requires you to look at more than just the product itself. Sometimes the requirements changing mean the thing you're talking about "breaks", in the sense that it doesn't do what it's required of it anymore. The T-72 chassis is definitely way too long in the tooth, and it's overdue for replacement with something built from the ground up to perform the functions that have been tacked on to it over the decades (incidentally, so does the Abrams, which is why we're moving to the M1E3). You could argue that the T-14 was too ambitious for what the Russians can actually do, but you can't fault them for wanting to replace their old tanks with something that would take advantage of new technologies.

The problem is that idiots like LP don't understand that while sometimes new designs do fail or go through severe development troubles, other times you need to do something new or you get left behind. The big irony is that this "if it ain't broke don't fix it" line of thinking is exactly what Reformers like Burton use to justify shitting on the Bradley. After all, "why spend all that money and time building a new box with tracks when we already have the M113 in service?!"

Talk about unwittingly becoming what you most hate, just to dunk on the vatniks.

I don't want to PL but I've seen first hand how a few handshakes at a golf course or (ugh) a guided tour of some fancy new lab/production facility/operations center/etc led to the introduction of unnecessary new products or services to an engineering project that added an amount of complexity that the team involved simply did not have the means to handle, resulting in delays, errors from miscommunication, etc. On the other hand there's no shortage of examples of organizational inertia preventing desperately needed changes from being adopted in a timely manner, which results in roughly the same problems of engineers doing damage control or solving issues like parts/documentation no longer being available, which also wastes valuable time and money.

Anybody with even a little bit of experience in technology has heard of some great new design, material, architecture, programming language, etc that will revolutionize the way we do xyz, minimize downtime caused by human error, increase the effectiveness of communication between engineers and management, whatever. That's why when discussing changes to existing designs it's important to identify what the problem is as well as how the new design proposes to solve it. That's why him saying "it's old" isn't just inadequate as far as identifying issues with the design goes, but demonstrates he's never really thought about these things in an engineering context at all.

If he had said "other countries' attempts to modernize older diesel engine designs have mostly been met with failure due to challenges arising from weight/heat dissipation/fuel efficiency/power output/cost of materials/ease of repairs/tolerance for adverse conditions/etc that are harder to surmount than simply designing a new engine using modern CAD software" and provided a few examples, he could've made a case even without data on the Russian engine itself about how unlikely it is for them to pull it off. But he didn't, he just assumed mentioning that it's old would be enough. Well why is the Chevy LS engine series still a popular choice for not only hobbyists but racing teams? Pushrod engines are also "old" and "outdated", so why not just use DOHC engines for everything? Ask truckers why there's still demand for Detroid Series 60 engines, when there are newer diesel designs on the road? Maybe Lazerpig has an answer to questions like this and simply forgot to add his explanation to the video, but somehow that seems unlikely.

This F-35 goat fuck has me cursing Sprey from beyond the grave. Some A+ "Did you know in Millennium Challenge 2k.." material.

Thank you, Sprey, for cultivating the mindsets that lead to these misjudgements. They lost an airframe and stood down for two days. How is this odd? That's the most normal thing in the fucking world. It's SOP. This isn't on a whim. The Corps does Safety Stand Downs constantly to the point I stopped paying attention to them. This isn't unraveling some shady cover story by bureaucrats concerned about their shiny new toy, it's just the standard for nearly anyone that operates aircraft. I'm not saying don't do military history as a civilian, but at least be familiar enough with the people in it you can pick up the phone and ask 'Hey is this normal?'. Especially when dealing the USMC and it's.. unique people. I'll never forgive Von Ripper for the levels of mid-wittery he unleashed.

Anyway, to keep it on topic, LP and his harem are doing the same thing, just more technically accurate, by removing the human factor. Can't wait to read the hot takes from people who's exposure to the DoD is reddit memes from retarded homosexuals. Gonna be great.

The guy has a whole sectione called “the-cope-gallery” which is literally screenshots of people calling his and his buddies vids trash

First: it's not a pedobear, it's a squished shiba inu... thing.
I believe the doggo is called “Cheems”.
Reading this made me remember a video essayist named "Leadhead", (powerword: Tripp Evans) who coincidentally was also a gay man obsessed with femboys who also happened to have a pig persona, and trooned out a year or two ago (and has made 4 or 5 videos about his troonery). Seeing how similar their paths are, it's only a matter of time before Davina reveals her true self. :christine:
I remember stumbling across a video of his on Bioshock and thinking it was fairly good, then I checked his recent videos and they were all about his trooning out. Needless to say I noped out of there.
As it seems to be turning out, somewhat. I think the Ukraine war brought a lot of drones in wondering what the fuck a Javelin missile was, that and War Thunder players, the most cursed community.
Don’t forget faggot anime crap like Azure Lane and Girl’s Frontline.
David hates anything Russian at his point due to him being part of NAFO.
How long until someone points out that the Ukrainians use an AK-47 derivative (in fact basically the same version that Russia is also using). Even that Malyuk thing that Ukraine is/was interested in is just a bullpup AK-74 iirc.

You're talking about the Fall of Civilizations Youtube channel, aren't you? I distinctly remember that bit from his video on the conquest of the Incan Empire, it was pretty annoying how he muddied up an otherwise excellently researched video with a bunch of Current Year whining about "Muh Natives," and "Muh Colonialism." He did the same thing with his Easter Island video.
He's a white Brit, he can't help but apologizing for his "white devilry"

Also, the true ending to Pizzaro is outstanding.
Sure am and had the same problem with Easter Island. I also dislike his tendency in his Inca and Aztec videos to downplay the savagery. You can't really get a picture of the situation with out the culture shock of barbarity the Spaniards walked into and their outrage. You want me to feel bad for the guy who beheaded children sent to ask for peace? I don't care if it's 1 or 200, you should be able to say 'Fuck these guys' instead of implying the Spanish were 5d chess playing racists who exaggerated for the benefit of future racists.
Yep, he is probably afraid of being called racist for accurately explaining the utter savagery of pre-Spanish America.
Yes, he actually goes deep into the politics of Meso-American society, the first 1.5 half hours are about the rise of Montezuma. But again, fumbles it at the end by down playing it was the Tlaxcalans who slaughtered Tenochtitlan for 3 days while the Spanish could only hole up. and being weepy over the loss of the Aztecs. Irritating presentation, still good info.
Yeah, Fall of Civilizations guy is great for about 95% then he'll fumble it when the EVIL whites arrive.... just go into knowing that and you're good.

If there are no evil Whites involved it's great.
Anyway, I think the Chieftan struck a really good tone with his soft rebuttal of Ian's video on the infamous Jadotsville Bren shot. Says Ian's correct about pretty much everything, but explains that correct doesn't really matter to soldiers and how the Irish loved firing Brens single shot. Then drops the absolute ancient head knowledge that No.4(T)s were battalion level at the time and there's no evidence a sniper was even present at the battle. So in the context of a choice between an off hand shot with a FAL or a bipod supported Bren, by troops who love the Bren more than they probably should, it becomes much more plausible.
Yep, sometimes troops just make shit work, no matter that the manual says.

Ian SHOULD know this buuuttt of course he's coming from a "gun gamer" perspective and of course, academic material.

Another example is gun lubricants. Some people get a nice refurbished M1 Garand and ask what to grease it with. The go to is Mobile 1 synthetic grease. However some people get all huffy and say "well I want the original whale oil or similar " and the correct response is "uhh no, the modern stuff has DECADES of materials sciences advances behind it, you should be thanking God they don't make em like they used to in this instance"

Hmm it's probably gotten better as Russia has launched a new satellite generation from them till now. However this does shoe that GLONASS isn't at GPS sub meter accuracy yet and may never be if Russia is using it mainly for vehicle navigation and the like.

Also, Russia used laser guided artillery shells called Krasnopol. Those work just fine.

Ian SHOULD know this buuuttt of course he's coming from a "gun gamer" perspective and of course, academic material.
I wouldn't be that harsh. Ian's conclusions are perfectly in line with what the movie shows, no one would do that, but it's so specific the film makers must have misheard something, Nick really contributed by dropping first hand knowledge that I haven't seen in conversation. The movie's still wrong, but wrong in a different way (possibly). The revelation that No.4(T)s weren't organic to the company, along with the fact the only person mentioned in the company as a marksman was a guy who won an All Army competition with irons, well now your sharpshooter dropping a FAL for a supported Bren makes sense. Movie's still wrong, but in a way that makes sense. I hate to harp on Moran, but he was in the fucking Irish Army at the same time and just kinda sat on that info while we tried to figure out what happened for years.

He's a white Brit, he can't help but apologizing for his "white devilry"
So frustrating. Just remembered he also glosses over the death of Constantine XI in his Byzantines episode. I know the speech was probably fake, but you couldn't give the man his due for how he went out? Like I said, I think he just doesn't get that these things happened with no ulterior personal motive.

>Charlemangne
He's a retard NrX faggot with an ego the size of Russia and a boner for Putin. Also, most of the video is seething over Perun, not LP.
Of all the people to seethe over, they decide to go for fuckin' Perun?

Guys, Perun might not be perfect but there are much easier targets out there than the guy who actually does his research and also cross-references Russian sources whenever he can. Just because he has a well-disclosed bias against the nation that launched a war of aggression on a neighbor, doesn't mean he's a NATO shill. Not when you've got the entire spectrum of out-and-out NAFO morons available to you.

Totally not concerned guys.
Hi, LazerPig!

We don't actually care all that much about your name, although we most certainly would prefer to have it correct. But it being correct or not doesn't change the contents of this thread, your failure as a would-be "historian", the fact you're a thin-skinned little shit, or the furry vore porn you've commissioned.

The name is a bonus, we already have the milk.
