Art through adversity is why the PS1 and PS2 are still so fucking good.
They also weren't butt fucked till AIDS with DLC and preorders. You paid for a full game and you had a full fucking game.
I really hate that comparison. Unless you are talking early PS2 graphics, the PS2 had some amazing ass graphical capabilities that still hold up to this day, yet your average pajeet and soydev can't make a game that looks reasonably good with CPU and GPU hardware that's orders of magnitudes more powerful. Same goes for all the 6th and 7th gen hardware really. Hell, there are some late PS1 games that look fantastic compared to what we have now like Vagrant Story.
The irony here is that games have become more expensive, having bigger budgets, having a supposed bigger scale, eating up more power from your machines. So you'd think we could avoid situations like these since we have the means to but here we are...
It's so lazy and cringe because back in the day, you could not fucking hide behind patches. You released the game so fuck you if it was unfinished. That was your fault.
So devs took the time to make shit play right and look good.
Had a conversation with some twat the other day who defended MK1 on the Switch because "Eh, it plays fine and MK11 didn't look that good either."
Idk, I sound like an autist angry at vidya but I feel like these people are the reason why the gaming industry is bit of a mess and continues to devolve in quality because devs like NR figured they don't have to try anymore as they can do whatever and people will still buy their garbage regardless of quality.
I guess I just get tired of seeing standards drop constantly. If it's not character design, it's writing or graphics or marketing or DLC or rush jobs or something else.
Edit. Words and typos.
It's slightly irritating too because these studios make massive amounts of money for less consumer friendly practices and products that aren't even complete.
Why won't they just delay?
