Rekieta's comments on Nina Infinity's show last night about claims that Russell Brand dated a 16 year old when he was in his 30s:
The family unit doesn't appear to exist in Nick's mind. A responsible parent would recognize that this isn't about the freedoms of adults being able to "dip down into it" so much as it is about having options to legally protect the children and adolescents from sexual predators.
To put it another way, this is about protecting children and adolescents due to their still developing cognitive, emotional, and even physical states which is what distinguishes them from adults in the first place. This is to say nothing of their overall disadvantage in terms of resources and real-world experience that make them an easy mark for sexual predators.
There is much that goes into the development of a human beyond physical pubescence. Regardless of what a society/culture says, humanity has a steady progression in natural development from conception to adulthood. A society that ignores this cripples itself and can compromise an otherwise healthy life.
Also, many of the teens who claim to be "mature for their age" do so to engage in fun adult activities while still relying on actual adults to carry them through life because they are still not independent or mature enough to handle things on their own.
Russel Brand is not worth defending if this is the position one has to take to defend him.
If the allegations are true then maybe, just maybe, what Russel is going through right now is a good reason to
not date a teenager when he's a celebrity in his thirties (even when it's legal). Play stupid games...
