Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

I looked for a fair amount of time, is there a mass debates thread to discuss these issues (aside from the cyclist one).
If you want to debate someone on some shit, do it on Mass Debates, especially considering "I am a cyclist and I think I have a God given right to ignore all laws" and "NOOOOO! YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" sprinkled with a little bit of "are cops the bad guys?" is nowhere close to being relevant to this thread.

That's why all that garbage was moved. Three or so pages with nothing other than people doing their best to derail and shit up a thread is not the place here.

"I'd rather spend 3 hours a day around obnoxious niggers than one hour in a car"
This is totally reasonable and absolutely not fucking insane.
Actually though. Imagine wanting the peace and safety of your own car, not surrounded by strangers, druggies, and people one minute away from a breakdown. Strange, I know.

I don't have any contention with any particular user. O just wondered if there were a thread to debate to what extent these guys get things right by and to see what extent they miss the mark. Sorry if I was misunderstood.

If you want to talk about NJB, this is the right place. If you want to debate whether or not cyclists are acting like retards when they drive in the middle of the road, Mass Debates would be more fitting.

Nevertheless, Strong Towns pushes the idea that market-based localism and incrementalism deliver benefits that central planning can’t.

Passé snipes over comparative econ autism taking the point-position in some overlong fisking attempt like this really take me back to the good ol' days on 8chan's /liberty/ board circa 2017. You're never getting my toothbrush, retard.

Daily reminder that "Stroad" is a made up word by a CIVIL engineer with zero experience in traffic engineering because he's butt-hurt he can't strut around in his stupid-sexy-flanders lyrca shorts every place he wants.
He uses a bullshit head-cannon definition of "Street" and "Road"; the only real difference is that "Street" is urban and "road" is rural. Urban streets tended to be narrower, be lined with shops, and be more meandering because they were in cities with lots of population density, and used to transit intra-city destination. Roads only tended to have Inns/Taverns on them because thye were Rural and mainly used to travel between long distance destinations.
Strong Towns faggot should be using the correct term "Urban Arterials" but firstly he's a faggot civil engineer and second that doesn't give his soyboy fans a cool term to own the chuds with.
You're giving Chuck way too much credit. Civil engineers do road-related work but he hasn't worked with roads or highways EVER in his career. His engineering license also expired a while back yet he still used that to further his career, which he got fined for.

This article was too much even for Jason:
Part of the problem is that Strong Towns was never "right wing" (or even truly libertarian) and I doubt that Chuck has ever voted for a Republican in years...and with Jason saying that the Strong Towns has "leftists" on it (by HIS OWN DEFINITION) means it's less "left" and "right" and more "left" and "more left".

This small channel came up in my YouTube reccomendations. He's a retired civil engineer who travels around the country and comments on their road systems. He comes across much more reasonably than the big channels. Here's his video where he rates the four largest Texan cities on congestion, with Austin (which has the fewest highways and an urbanist local government) being the worst by far:
And his videos on where Americans are fleeing from and moving to:

Another thing these literal retards forget is that parking lots are just empty space. If you are envisioning some glorious biketopia, just mandate that parking lots be built so X% capacity can be torn up and converted to a new building in a future date instead of being a useful idiot making everyone's lives worse so developers can squeeze out some extra profits.

Parking minimums are needed and usually woefully insufficient.

You're right, that should be Sanctioned FORMER Civil Engineer

The only bad part of his channel is that the comments section inevitably gets invaded by car hating urbanists, but that's not his fault. Took no effort to find this on the worst Texas city traffic video:

I know better than to believe bugmen when they claim there's no alternatives to driving (or, I'm sorry, ""meaningful"" alternatives to driving like this tard says, whatever that weasel wording means) when you can live car-free in almost every major city in the US.

They have no idea what they're talking about and definitely didn't watch the video. Austin, the city with the worst congestion, has the fewest amount of highways, invests the most in transit and bike lanes, and their activists and city government fight every road expansion.

My real life experience living in a city with policies similar to Austin's is what caused me to start researching urbanist stuff. I saw the cost of housing and travel times greatly increase every year despite modest population growth. The politicians always pushed urbanism as the solution to the city's self-inflicted issues, which made me suspect that it isn't as rosy as urbanist YouTubers claim.

Also, a lot of the European cities promoted by urbanists have housing crises and long average commute times despite being "well-designed".

Just one more bike lane bro, please, it'll solve traffic this time, just one more, it'll solve traffic forever, please bro let me have one more bike lane.

I genuinely wonder if any urbanist has ever addressed this, because I have never seen an urbanist address this fact.

I live in Austin and it's absolutely maddening how the city has dragged its feet for DECADES on appropriate highway growth. Dallas and Houston went full steam ahead and its worked out well all things considered.

Austin is proof positive that urbanist policies don't work: undersized highways doesn't mean suburban growth is stymied, nor does building in the core of the city create affordable housing by market policies. The end result is overpriced apartments in the suburbs with horrific traffic or even MORE expensive apartments in the urban areas.

its funny because the reason why adding highway lanes increases commute time in the long run is because people use them, and the reason why adding a bike lane increases commute time is because people don't use them

If they're going to make people ride bikes and scooters in traffic, then it should at LEAST be legal to do the Snow Crash thing where you use a hook-shot-style harpoon to catch free rides from cars.

City appears to be Orlando, Florida from his post history. Literally every Democrat run city is pushing urbanist propaganda these days; I don't know why they act so surprised.

Not sure how this is related to the OP, but it's unintentionally funny:

Radicalisation is only good if it's for MY political causes, guys. No chance in hell he would make the same comic for, say, anti-porn, anti-trans or Jew-hatred radicalisation.

You don't need a bike path through residential streets. The point of them is to be low-traffic in the first place.
What a coincidence this person is against having children ("""breeding""") and also against driving and flying.

This isn't talked about enough but urbanists hate planes too, despite them being safer, faster and requiring less infrastructure than driving, and also being public transit.
