Yeah infanticide used to be how unwanted pregnancies were dealt with and is still a problem in many poor countries (especially infanticide of female infants). Not that pregnancy and giving birth doesn't produce powerful hormones to encourage bonding, but it's not a guarenteed thing and throughout history women will still do whatever they need to survive (even if it means abandoning or killing a newborn).
