I just finished watching Nexpo's video from 3 weeks ago on that fake PS1 game "Petscop", and that is some hardcore garbage right there. This is like the most Redditish Shit I have come across in years. I'm almost in awe of how disjointed and downright stupid that fucking story was. They even made it so much worse by basing the entire first half of this "game" on a real life tragedy which was an honest to goodness disturbing ordeal that really happened to a poor kid...if this had been some legit children's PS1 game with references to that event placed within it seemingly for no reason I'd love it for its creep factor alone even if I still hated the art direction.
But no. It was just another dumb, fake, """"analoghorror
game""" story. Total waste of several hours. Nexpo's video was abridged, narrated, and summarized and even THAT was THREE HOURS and still completely fell to pieces just halfway through. I think all the videos of the actual "gameplay" on the main channel total close to 10 hours! I mean maybe it was more interesting as the first few videos were being released back in 2017 and nobody knew how jank it was yet?
P.S...Is it just me or are you guys getting real annoyed with this "ps1 graphic is spukey" crap? Everywhere I look in the creepy tubes there's some dweeb talking about "analog horror" and "liminal spaces". If I never have to hear either those fucking terms again that would be just dandy.
I have disdain for middling junk that people latch onto en-masse like this it happens way too often and takes those concepts from "just okay" to "awful" in a heartbeat with oversaturation. I am not really a fan of ARGs since they exploded in popularity either but man! What a shitshow!
The PS1 aesthetic can work, but people tend to think that the ps1 spooky monster is what makes it work. What makes it work is how almost good the graphics are.Maaaaan...

the creator was a retard who didn't plan anything out and made it up as he went along
The PS1 aesthetic can work,
I have yet to see an ARG or anything of that sort that has had even a descent ending. Most I've seen just end with a demon did it or something. The idea or a horror story that you uncover yourself through videos, websites, or posts online is very interesting but they've all been done so poorly. I think bad endings don't help but also when the creator buckles to people complaining. Petscop using a real case in it's story was tasteless but I think that the creator backtracking the way he did to write it out made it even worse. Like just go with what you originally wanted. I've gotten more satisfaction from shot on video horror movies then I've gotten from any ARG.This seems to be the NUMBER ONE ISSUE with ARGs/Modern Creepypasta Episodics!
I liked 'scop, but even I admit the big boon for "le sp00ky PS1 haunted analog VHS gamerinos" have gotten oversaturated, stale, and tired. I said before that I think Puppetcombo was the one to start this awful trend of "if I make a horror game with low poly models and textures that feel like the world is turning itself inside out, then that means I'm making great horror media, or something!" type shit, but I think Petscop might've been patient 0 that was the one to plant the seeds into zoomers minds that "le old retro look = zoomers shitting their pants," not helped that other "ARGs" like that Mario 64 beta channel got wrapped up into discord tranny drama shitshow that ended up having it canned in the end with no resolution. At least Petscop had an ending, good lord, ARGs are so fucking gay and NO ONE has made a good horror themed one since... Marble Hornets maybe?Maaaaan...

The ending where the main character has turned out to be an ftm tranny? At least Petscop had an ending
Personally, if I woke up one day and decided to cut my dick and balls off Ms call myself TV's Adamina West, that's a pretty good example of a bad ending. The ending where the main character has turned out to be an ftm tranny?

And watching hour long videos talking about said ARGs are just as if not more boring.
It's one of those ones that always get me. Why not have the person just try a bunch of cheats or hammer a bunch of button press and get it to do something weird. Could even be a thread in the tale as the person works to figure out what they did to get it to work that way. Now, that borders on "le spoopy glitch had me heckin' scared" but it would be at least more interesting at first. Could even have something later in the game hint that it wasn't a glitch and its repeatable.Toss out from the script that stupid "handwritten note" you "find" in the cd case that has the secret code to arrive in spookyville written on it.

...Say sike right now. Last I heard about the series is was about some jag off who decided to create a game dedicated to exposing a murder or something for some reason. How the fuck did it get to ftm shit!?so he changed the direction of the story to be about how the main character is actually an ftm pooner and this is xir's backstory of all the evil abuse that happened.
It mainly stems from this abstract concept of "rebirthing" one person into another by putting them into a machine and playing a song to complete the ritual, I guess, complete with turning said child into an Easter "Egg." Kinda funny when you realize Paul/Care/Lina(?) might've played the song wrong and that's how they ended up with a penis, by "accidentally" playing it wrong like "Aw geez guess I have a dick now, whoops."...Say sike right now. Jumping off that, I think it's hard to get something good out of a blank-slate aesthetic that isn't built along with the story, especially when everyone just kind of goes along with the stupid shit other people do with it. Aesthetics should compliment and support the story and themes. SCP's aesthetic is of a government agency trying to understand supernatural shit beyond known science. It became a bunch of gay OC character sheets. The backroom's aesthetic is of empty, vaguely familiar places. It became "hur dur the monsters on level 42069 which is an endless version of my bedroom will rape you if you don't drink your almond milk."It's just the oversaturation that bugs me and the fact that most these fools don't know what to do with it once they get their hands on it and start Creating atop the canvasses of these two very unforgiving iconographies. Most "liminal"/"analog" stuff turns out battered by them - the creativity of the artist is battered by the medium itself. The potential is there but it's like a supercharged Mustang that these fools keep crawling into and then immediately drifting directly into a crowd.

It's based on a real case called Candace Newmaker its horrible torture they did to a child in name of psychology that killed her.It mainly stems from this abstract concept of "rebirthing" one person into another by putting them into a machine and playing a song to complete the ritual, I guess, complete with turning said child into an Easter "Egg." If you like liminal spaces, check out silent hill shattered memories. It's a reimagining of silent hill 1 and you actually get to sit back and just enjoy the games atmosphere for large chunks. There's the Alice in wonderland burger shop that always stuck with me, an abandoned mall, and an entire school. It's just so surreal. Someone even ported the mall to VR chat and it's a sad type of cozy.My favorite of the Liminal Spaces are the ones that come around every so often and make me feel sad, like they should be populated with tons of happy kids playing loudly but never were. Arcades, kids jungle gym and ball pit areas at strange looking fast food places etc. Mcdonalds playplaces deserted and spotless. Those are where they really shine. Forlorn looking roads next to cornfields and barns that look like the picture inside the machine at the eye doctor that blasts air into your eye. That stuff
Puppet Combo hits the nail on the head for capturing the "shitty 80s horror exploitation b-movie on the back shelf of the video store" vibe in their games. Nothing's taken too seriously, it's like cheap schlocky junkfood, and I mean, cmon. You should know exactly what you're getting into with titles like "Power Drill Massacre" or "Babysitter Bloodbath" lmfaoI genuinely enjoyed Power Drill Massacre. It was all wrapped up nice and neat, an overall really cool little experience.
