Sony hate thread

Long term reliability would be making the components on the board easily swappable rather than needing to solder in new components.
Okay, let's assume that the leaked next-gen Xbox controller is real, and it has modular thumb sticks. GuilKit makes in-place replacements that use the Hall effect sensors. What will be your complaint in this scenario? Having to void your warranty and take the controller apart to fix them? The plastic not being good enough to last an eternity?

Because I know, I fucking know you will find another excuse just to bitch about things breaking. Well news flash, EVERYTHING BREAKS WITH USE, and when something breaks you have to fix it, but with appropriate precautions you can delay the point at which something breaks so that it's issue-free for a long time.

But to bitch about there not being a perfect indestructible item on the market is to be delusional about the reality that surrounds you. And this is what I'm getting from you, no solution is good for you because none of them are perfect, and you demand perfect, or else it's bad. Which is just fucking gay baby whining.

If Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony start putting Hall effect sticks in their controllers right now it's already a big plus for longevity of those devices and that's the cold hard truth, because those are the things that go first, and Hall effect sticks are less likely to go first. I don't know what the fuck you believe to say it's a bad thing.

Nobody is going to buy Xbox. Even if Microsoft ceases support for "home consoles" they are still likely to be found in the same marketplace as Nintendo in the realm of game distribution platforms if they don't sell off Gamepass as well. And they 100 percent are not going to do that, it is where all of their assets are and where the past seven or so years of effort have gone (to say nothing of any future time in between now and the proposed buy-out then forced acq.) Microsoft would literally have to sell off or write off pretty much their entire gaming division in order to get away with it. Among other things that would mean the people in charge of Xbox intentionally planning their own job losses -and that never happens.
Microsoft spent billions on Windows Phone. They bought Danger for $500 million and Nokia for over $7 billion. Then they shut their mobile OS group, wrote down the purchases and laid everyone off. Steve Ballmer lost his job because of this.

It could happen again.

<lol u mad>
My main point is that the technology isn't any more reliable. Don't believe me? Look it up for yourself. The hall effect analog parts are rated for millions of cycles. Alps makes potentiometer-based analogs rated for millions of cycles.

That coupled with the feel being different, imo worse.

Genuinely I have controllers in my posession for PS1, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube used for 20 years that are fine. Why do we suddenly think the technology is broken just because DualShock 4 and Joycon designers opted for lower end parts rated for fewer cycles?

And for the controllers I have in poor condition I'd rather just have replaceable parts. It doesn't void any warranties to open a controller, it's even advisable to do so to clean them out.

Just because a manufacturer rates their product for x cycles doesn't mean it will start shitting itself before it approaches it. Example: mechanical switches used in Logitech mice. A spec sheet is not a direct representation of the reality of the product. Especially if you can lie on them, like Volkswagen did with their emission tests.

As someone already pointed out: all the flaws that you're associating with Hall effect sticks already exist in potentiometer ones. All except the one that leads to the drift, which is the graphite pads that wear with time, and are the ones to go out first that start the drift. Not the spring that's the only thing that keeps calibration on the Hall effect sensor sticks. So if the Hall effect sticks will start having issues much later than the potentiometer ones then I really do not see a problem.

The feel being different? Again, no potentiometers. You're not being guided by the two axis of potentiometers anymore, now you're only fighting against the spring that returns it to the center. You could probably make a Hall effect stick that feels the same without changing the way it functions, if the oh so important Industry Feel™ is this much of an issue for you, or for most consumers for that matter. Make it so that pushing the stick up, down, left or right has more resistance than just the spring, with the diagonals having twice as much resistance, because it's the Industry Feel™.

And again: the point of Hall effect sticks is that a) they are more precise as they don't have those weird inputs that require dead zones to exist, and b) unlike the potentiometer ones they won't start drifting so early. The first part can be alleviated better with the Hall effect sticks than it can be on the best potentiometer sticks, and the second part alone is a direct upgrade, because you could get rid of dead zones for the most part and gain additional contol precision. Unless, of course, we don't touch that again because "people are used to it", so no innovation because the normies don't like change.

If anything you are basically mad that everyone's pushing GuilKit because you have an issue with the company and not the tech itself. The tech is fine and should be utilized for the input precision alone, but just because you don't like some chinks in Shenzen having a monopoly on those doesn't mean that now this technology that basically existed before fucking video game consoles were even a thing is now bad.

It's used in industries for high precision applications for a reason, so I don't see why it shouldn't be utilized in video game controllers, unless, again, normies don't like change because they're used to the potentiometer axis resistance and deadzones, so we can't try anything new because of that.

I don't think anyone except this guy care that they feel different, since all I've seen is people praising the gulikit sticks and asking for hall sticks on everything. The only issue I've had with the Gulikit stuff, of which I have Joycon sticks, a King Kong 2 and Steam Deck sticks, is that their quality control isnt the greatest, but they will send you replacement sticks for free, and when they aren't defective because its a new company making new stick designs, they work like a dream.

I've seen some posters on the internet say that Ryan wasn't fired for the AB deal, but because the studios are in shambles, the GAAS he greenlit will go the way of the Sega game and the profits are not as much as had been reported internally.

The GAAS and studios in shambles I can believe, the book cooking no so much.

It does make one wonder what the hell is happening with TLOU multiplayer, announced in 2018. ND could have had TLOU3 out by now.

Rumours are that Insomniac will announce a GAAS title that will launch around the time of Wolverine.

Shows how fucking exciting Sony is when half you guys are fighting about controller joysticks and the other half are talking about Xbox and Nintendo lol. Imagine being Sony and having literally nothing to look forward besides capeshit and Final Fantasy, both of which will be on PC in the near future. Snoy niggas keep getting the L.

4 and a half billion spent on Bungie just for their GAAS expertise and now Bungie is shitting the bed even harder than usual with Destiny, and all of Sony's GAAS projects got delayed because Bungie said they sucked and were doing it wrong, wonder if Sony regrets it yet.

And still no Destiny on PSVR2. What a fucking waste.

With everything going on in the gaming industry, I expect a normie-crash (consoles, online games, MMO and GAAS) within a year, maybe that's optimistic. I think normies are reaching saturation point with consoles.

3 years in, no exclusives on either platform, delays up the ying-yang, major shift to GAAS - which reminds me of the PS360 shift to motion gaming to beat the Wii, and neither Microsoft or Sony seem to really have a plan. It's as if they expected the market to grow infinitely, or just crash entirely. Now they're stuck in limbo with no direction.

This is the most bizarre console generation in the industry's history.

Yes, it could. But that story does not end with them buying Samsung a year later to own a better phone company, it ends with them having left phones for good.

Sony isn't even worth ranting about right now, they're just fucking boring.
