This is by no means a proper list, but here is what I believe to be the 3 most common reasons.

1. Fetishization of male homosexuality. I'm not 100% certain on what the root causes for this are, but I've seen the phrase 'purest form of love' touted a few times.

2. Having 2 men to lust over is better than having just 1. This one is relatively self explanatory.

3. Lack of prominent female characters. The women writing and consuming these media don't want female characters to compare themselves to, so the bottom is written as a female for all intents and purposes. This also allows for the consumers to self insert themselves into said bottom.
