I definitely empathize with pick-me’s, because I think a lot of people go through phases like that in one way or another. Most people have probably gone through multiple points in their life looking to fit into a group and changing aspects of themselves and kowtowing to what those people want, whether that’s romantic relationships, friendships, groups, whatever, even when it’s not in our best interests. It’s human nature to want to be accepted by others, I think.
Like I’ve kinda said earlier in this thread, I think it’s hard to really break away and just be yourself, even if that means you don’t necessarily appeal to most other people, because it’s scary to be alone, especially when you’re not used to it. But that’s part of maturing, and I really hope these women can find happiness in who they are, rather than what they think other people want them to be.
That is the one thing about pick-me’s that confuses me. Like you said, it’s probably because these men are the lowest common denominator, but at what point is it just not worth it? Like at what point would you just rather be alone forever than have to tolerate really crappy people? Like I know e-celebs like ShoeOnHead do it because those people are extremely easy to grift off of, but for your average young girl seeking male validation, I can’t imagine talking to people like that is going to serve your mental health very well. From talking to them before I’ve found that most of the incel crowd enjoys their self-induced misery anyway, so talking to them is like stepping in quicksand; they’ll just make you miserable, too.As I said earlier in this thread, if you're gonna be a pick-me, at least try to get picked by men that are cute? I'm thinking it might be the irrational believe that these men will be "grateful" that a woman is paying attention to them and that even tho they hate all women and constantly post misogynistic shit they will treat the pick-me different because she's just so nice and understanding and she can totally fix them. Kind of like the women who write serial killers in jail. They get off to a mean horrible men treating THEM special and different and not violently like he treats all other women. Makes them feel super duper special. Also might have to do with her wanting to see herself as special, like she is especially empathetic that she can see the good even in the most vile creatures and it makes her think she's a step above all those "mean women". Maybe she's seen her mom "nag" her dad and thought to herself "I'm not gonna be one of those naggy women, I'm gonna be the fun woman who says yes to everything!"
The thing tho is that eventually all pick-me's get blackpilled by their continuous interactions with men and stop being pick-me's and start being really embarrassed at how much they shat on women just to defend vile men.

I wonder if it also stems from abusive parents. A lot of people that have had abusive parents tend to seek out abusive relationships, whether they mean to or not, because it provides a weird sense of normalcy to them. Ironically, I think a lot of incels and guys like them are probably a product of parents not paying enough attention to them and neglecting them. Just some armchair psychologist stuff, but that’s my guess.
In short, we need less shitty parents in this world, and we need people who had shitty parents to not be shitty parents themselves

I said earlier ITT, but I think a lot of pickmes had abusive moms or otherwise poor relationships with their mothers.
When your primary role-model of what being a woman is isn't a good person, internalized misogyny is an unfortunate by-product. However part of recovery and breaking free from abuse is realizing your abuser isn't representative of all or even most women (plus a lot of abusive mothers are some degree of pickme themselves).

I've been seeing this specific subgenre of insufferable pick-me women (usually in those coquette circles) on my Instagram fyp lately that have a superiority complex over reading authors such as Dostoevsky, Austen, Wilde, Woolf, Kafka, Camus, etc. despite the books they post being the exact same every single time, and none of these women showing an interest in reading classics that haven't been popularised by Tik Tok. And the comments are usually littered with moids saying things like "I've never met a girl who likes these kinds of books" as if they aren't some of the most well known authors in their respective genres.

I was joking but like most jokes, it does have some truth to it. A lot of pickme types on Tinder will put that they like Naruto in their bio and then not actually know anything about it when you try and talk to them about it and I'm not an elitist when it comes to anime knowledge so it's not like I'm testing anyone or expecting them to know the same small details a Naruto autist like me would know. It legit comes off like their older brother liked it and they were in the same room while he watched episodes because they clearly never sat down and watched it but they have memories of like specific episodes and moments but that's it to the point where it's clear they don't like it enough to put it in their bio genuinely. They're just putting it there to attract men like their brother cause they have a complex and he won't fuck her or she's a pickme or she wants to attract a submissive, nerdy guy she can treat like shit.
It's just dangerous to go near a woman who says she likes Naruto, One Piece women tend to be pretty cool though.
