I pulled Nick and Kayla's address history to clear up where they were living at what time. The site I used seems pretty good on when the person started living at the location, not so good as to when they left.

Speculation:

1406 S 4th St #4 is an excellent fit for Nick's description of "section 8" housing. That portion of the story somewhat holds up. But he was likely there only for around six months before he went back to the minneapolis area and quickly was in really good housing.

Nick seems to have been living in dorm housing on campus for most of his time in college. Its quite possible that the dorm rules didn't allow him to live to Kayla and that they had to find other housing. Other housing perhaps not funded by his parents.

Probably the church or homeschool since both communities would disapprove of his coomer arc, but I remember reading something from him mentioning that "no one in the community likes him" or something along those lines. Basically saying that after he decided to become a public coomer for a living, people started talking behind his back.
