Can the police legally lie to suspects in Canada?

They can lie about whatever the fuck they want. There's a JCS video about a Canadian case where a woman hired her drug dealer boyfriend to kill her parents. The cops lied to her and said they basically had xray vision surveillance footage that could prove where everyone was in the home since she was lying about being tied up while her parents were killed.

This is one of the many reasons that you don't talk to cops without a lawyer, who will probably tell you to never talk to them.

police lying to trick you into incriminating yourself might get a case thrown out in some places, but not in others. different countries have different legal procedures.
but most people aren't experts on legal procedure, so it's a good rule of thumb to just assume the worst and never talk to them in the first place. if you want to talk, talk to your lawyer and let him talk to police for you.

Want to fool them into thinking you have some superhuman detective skills and trick them into making admissions? Lie and exaggerate, bring out ridiculous props and scare the hell out of them. some people are just weak minded and easily beaten into submission. if you're like that, and the cops say "look, we got two eye witnesses who have identified you as the perpetrator, you're done, might as well own up to it and confess now to get off with a lighter sentence and spare yourself a long and arduous trial" then you might just give up and give in because you are convinced that you will be (falsely) convicted either way and confessing is your best way to mitigate the damage.

they are lying about having witnesses (there are none) and they are lying about how a confession will give you a lighter sentence (that is completely out of their control) but if you believe the lies and make a confession because you think it'll get you less time in jail then there's a good chance that this confession will actually get you convicted, or at the very least it will severely damage your credibility in court.

They can't make up fake evidence for the purposes of getting a warrant or keeping you confined (like they did with Michael Dixon), but they can pretend they totally had a smoking gun and your fingerprints were all over it when they're talking to you.

You're not at the stage of being offered a plea deal when you're a suspect (like JFG) in an interview room, you haven't even been arrested and can theoretically walk out at any time.

It depends on the seriousness of the charges but it is murder we're talking about here and while once in a very long while someone will falsely confess to a murder, I refuse to believe even a significant % of people would just roll over and take it. The kind of people at risk of falsely confessing are probably so retarded that they are already legally shielded from their own stupidity anyway.

I know every once in a while somebody gets royally fucked but the alternative is being the UK which is a fate worse than death.
