I believe, because I've experienced this myself, albeit with people far less crazy than Dave, that there's a cycle between him and his parents of them clamping down on his bullshit, taking him back, getting lax, clamping down again, and so on, over and over. Ultimately they're his parents and while it's easy for us to go "what a piece of shit, why haven't they completely dropped him" there's mental barriers to that when it's your own family. It's tragic. I hope it sticks this time but I have a feeling it won't.

I'll bet part of it is also that Dave's unmistakeably mentally ill now -- I mean, not that he wasn't back when he first announced he's a woman, but nowadays he's one step away from becoming the guitar player in Tommy Tooter's band. It's easier to push a child out of the nest when they're just lazy and immature and need a bucket of cold water poured over their head. But when they look like they might very well end up a ranting schizo living on the street if you cut them off? That's got to make it harder, even when you know they're an abusive, manipulative little shit.

Maybe Dave's little CP threat was the last straw his parents needed to finally put their foot down. I guess we'll see how things play out with his latest run-in with the law.

How did Dave spend over $1K on takeout in three weeks? Ordering dinner regularly, say $30/meal for 30 days? Or a smaller number of high priced meals (maybe to entertain guests)? I considered Dave ordering wine, but at what point does that become suspicious?

The bills seem to be weekly. Maybe he ordered takeout for the week dolled up as catering for an event at home. Booze was surely included and he probably ordered the highest priced wines and Champaign's just to stick it to his father. Maybe he fed some friends with the food too.

joe has vibes of one of those older guys who are very stiff and a bit grouchy but overall a good person. The career path him and Mary choose can be stressful as much as successful. He Means well but is now paying for his choice of showing love thru money/gifts to his kids. One ended up a spoiled ungrateful brat. The others ended up alright. Can’t say he doesn’t get stressed from work, along with his wife. I mean their job involves telling people they are going to die straight up sometimes. Anyone would fucking grouchy and snap sometimes between the career and dealing with dave (tbh the bagel freak out didnt… really sound like the bagels were the true issue). He (also his wife) make lots of money, yes but it comes off of the mixed bag of “the treatment worked! You are cancer free” and “it’s too advanced. You are going to die”. All the While you are being leeched off of by your good for nothing son, who you have given opportunities and paid his way.. as he trashes you openly, causes scenes and stalks you.

Again, we don’t know much about this family outside of what he says. Which I think isn’t a bad thing and they are handling this is how it should be.

The "ex" is Sarah Myers (Facebook, LinkedIn) who was a student at Mizzou around the 2nd time Dave got the boot from his parents' home. Dave mentions her semi-regularly for several years (e.g., 2017-11-28 Facebook post, archive). The friendship seems to have run its course by 2018, 2019. Best part of the story (for me) was Dave claiming to have dated Fiona Apple. While her story is believable, there's something about her post (self-pitying? attention seeking?) that rubbed me the wrong way. Something about the phrase "plagued by a psychotic illness" that's on par with Dave in terms of irritatingly precious. I also think you're probably right that Dave was "catering" with his parents' country club account.

While I didn't see any mention by Dave about the first eviction from the Muscato home, he did make a 2016 Facebook post RE: second eviction (i.e., the one that resulted in him moving into a women's homeless shelter). I didn't see it in the thread, so I've posted the relevant portion below (archive link, full post), to compare with current saga.

There are lot of really interesting "goodies" in this post. I'm not sure if this is the first time Dave describes his parents as abusive (nor does he describe his childhood as abusive, just life with them post-"coming out"). He claims to have signed over his property to them, including Hermione (to prevent Dave from repeatedly returning to the home to "pick up stuff" and try squatting?) I love that the Dr's Muscato sided with the TERFs.

Things might be quiet this month (though Dave's surprised me lately). Hearing is scheduled for Nov. 2.

Eh, Dave’s spouting bullshit, unsurprisingly. Although Missouri is a landlord-friendly state, eviction proceedings are still a pain in the arse. A landlord can only evict you immediately if, for example, you are conducting illegal activities on the premises or damaging the place. The landlord still has to give 10 days to pick up stuff, even if technically it’s abandoned. After that, it can go on the curb. If they wanted to bar him from the property the eviction would have done that. As for eviction itself, there are defences available, including discrimination, and who imagines Dave would have missed that opportunity to grandstand in court about his oppression points?

My assumptions: he’s their kid and they love him and took him in, rent-free, even though he’s an asshole. And they didn’t want to cut him off entirely.

Based on these, my guess: his behaviour was shitty enough that they needed him out, but he wouldn’t go so they took the nuclear option. Once he moved out, the eviction proceedings were moot. If they weren’t sure he was gone for good, they could have kept the proceedings on foot as protection and leverage. They then offered to drop the proceedings if he stayed away (and probably gave him some cash to help him and sweeten the deal). As for his stuff, they probably offered to store his shit, but asked for something in writing to cover their arses, like a bailment (in which Dave retains ownership and they have possession).

Support for this: they took him back in! Also he still has a large guitar collection, way more than the couple he claimed were being repaired, plus all the other crap he claimed he got back from his parents. If he had transferred ownership they could easily have sold it all. But they hung onto it. They kept some form of relationship with him, instead of totally severing all ties.

Seriously, the crap he must have put them through.
