There's one youtuber I used to watch who was an Ex Military guy who was in the MP's in Iraq and Afghanistan. He mentioned a story once where they got jumped on patrol and said "Can you hear the difference between an armed and a recon drone? Neither could they" and said that they'd call unarmed drones to fly over when they got ambushed because the Taliban would bug out thinking they were about to meet Allah via drone strike even though it wasn't an armed drone. Since IDF is funded and trained by the US, I assume they know that strategy too, fly drones over areas you think enemies are and watch them bug out to dodge a missile that isn't coming

I think it's more likely the drones are being used for target acquisition as opposed to sending in low flying propeller aircraft. The IDF is likely playing it safe for now not knowing if Hamas has been supplied with AA equipment. Drone acquires target; Jet speeds in; fires; gets out.
