I'm not intimately familiar with the moods of the Canadian judicial system, but to argue that dropping someone off at a gas station with a phone and supplies is reckless endangerment sounds like a hard job. Remember, Mama JF has held a job before, lived alone IIRC, and has no issue going about her business on her own. It seems to me that - assuming JF isn't lying to his internet audience for the short term, about things that are falsifiable by police and bound to come out - if he ever gets charged, it'd be very difficult to convince a jury or a judge that he dropped her off at a gas station with the intention to harm her. The retroactive responsibility thing is spooky, I admit, and that's the only thing I can see coming down on him.

You forget to distinguish between urban and "countryside" québécois. I dated a Montréal girl a long time ago and we never had any problems talking french to each other, she only had a light accent in french. Her english was also perfect with an north American accent.

There are small communities of English speakers who live in the Eastern Townships area but barring that, yeah, the countryside is filled with French speakers who have no interest in learning English. I have been thinking about this, the sighting is surely bullshit if it's a witness who came forward? Because I realized that nobody was even looking for her for 4 months. So a person is thinking back 4 months to a person they had no reason at the time to pay special attention to.

The details of the sighting could change this. But someone coming forward after 4 months saying "oh yes I saw her on the 19th, definitely that day, she was wearing this exact outfit I will now describe"... It's talking some "Rain Man" level stuff. To not only remember the woman but also remember the day.

There would have to be a very specific reason to believe testimony of this nature. An elongated conversation, perhaps someone got her name, camera footage, etc.

Others in the thread have alleged she has a lot of bad blood with the family between her and JF. It's possible he isolated her. I still maintain they're the ones driving this investigation and were the ones to tell the cops "Hey this JF guy is sketchy" until proven otherwise. They might not be making any public appearances or announcements on the cops' request.

The sad reality is, when you have a potato kid and they aren't going to die by 50, you need to eventually accept the reality you won't be there forever. So when some weirdo comes along and says "Hey I love your daughter and want her to be my wife and will take care of her forever", you're kind of inclined to hope for the best. We’re approaching winter so if she’s dead and buried the RCMP will have to wait until the spring thaw to find her or maybe JF is hoping a bear got to the body first. After all Canada is a big place and has lots of places to hide a corpse.
