I think its less the mask has slipped and more that the wider public perception of the brutality of war has been reawoken by Ukraine. Normies are being forced to slowly realize that war isn't this quiet surgical affair in which the good guys win and the bad guys lose, but a bloody hellscape in which everyones dying, no matter whether its just or not. Now? All I can see from the very same people is some variation of "Yes, Hamas did kill women and children, and this is why it's a good thing!" I don't know if suddenly the mask is of or they lost some important PR people, but there's been a shift in narrative. Makes me wonder what will happen when the next terror attack hits Europe.
Under those conditions, its easier than ever to accept the atrocities of your favored side as just 'business as usual' rather than something that needs to be justified explicitly.
