I was watching his fnaf series breakdown with my wife a while back, (I don't care for fnaf but she is a woman in her late mid 20s so that game has nostalgia for her I guess).
I really don't get what people want out of fucking horror nowadays.

That's the guy who made Monument Mythos? Not surprised. I turned off Wendicoon's video on it pretty early since it was so cringe inducing. It gave such a strong impression of him trying to literally demonize what he perceived as his political opponents. Old republican presidential candidate is... LE DEVIL??? Not to mention the infantile kids show tier storytelling. I see he even made a video about Trump mugshot by adding bloody eyes lol.
I really do wonder how many of the people who are into "analog horror" even have firsthand experience with the technology it's emulating. Not to powerlevel but I'm in my mid-20s and I'm just barely old enough to remember VHS being a thing, I was still in elementary school when they were all but phased out. If (as I suspect) a lot of the people who watch/make this stuff are much younger than myself, then it's not really something that was ever relevant to their personal experience.
I dont think there was much "those over there are evil" in the video. Like Nixon is effectively god in the story and its more a story about weird monsters affecting humanity and those in power using it for gain.

People in AH circles are deeplore autists for better or worse, because thats where you get the most wiggle room in this corner of horror stuff. The presentation is usually pretty limited by the VHS aesthetics, unless you're a vfx guru(Kane Pixels) or a got a team working for you(Greylock) or you're willing to leave the basement and film outside for some found footage(Gemini or Whitestag). People are also for some reason deathly averase to narrating themselves so most of it is Microsoft Sam buzzing into our ears or we get unnarrated text dumps, so the only place people can do whatever is the story. Early AH also leaned heavily into the mystery aspect that you had to untangle so it's became an unwritten rule that if you want to make an AH series you better get some overarching mystery going, FNAF and other lore autism games probably also had a hand in this.
