Goodbye Volcano High - "The Future of Gaming", The Parody Game of the Beloved Snoot Game Franchise

Like I said, the problem can only have been with the management, and their misuse of resources. They had enough money, they had enough time, but couldn't seem to do what they wanted to.

Telltale, Quantic Dream, and DONTNOD would all have done a better job with the premise.

I'd love to see Snoot Game remade using the same engine as Telltale's The Walking Dead/Wolf Among Us.

Just imagine how hard ending one would hit, if you actually have to walk trough the school hallways and find Naser in his last moments.

Since a few people have been consistently asking about the state of the Discord, I took some time to dig into it today. Long story short, nothing very interesting. People have mostly positive things to say about the game, but I don't know if that's because the admins nuked any disappointed users.
pretty much, ko_pe petty manchildren tyrants only allow praise and ban at the slight critique/wrong think

Apparently the spics made a document with what could've been the original GVH script before they fired the lead writer, here's the original document and also the DeepL translated one into English. They said all this info was gathered from old social media posts from the devs, files and code in the released game and devs that were contacted but the people who made the document can't say who they are. I'll try to summarise it:
-They said how the original idea of the game was called Jurassic High, in which you would play as either Fang, Rosa or Leo (who is a cut character from the game entirely but we actually have concept art of his design), was gonna be a dating sim. They said that the game apparently had a lot of progress made in this state.
-The devs here enter the Canadian funding program for vidya.
-The game wanted since the beginning to have strong LGBT representation, but also to criticise modern society and to show how vulnerable new generations are to sudden societal changes.
-Developers had big expectatives for the game, however the original plan was changing because they didn't want to delay the staff and to keep them on a leash. Unclear if it was investors or Sony who did this.
-However, devs were already getting a bit too much. They wanted every character to have a voice and also sing, to the point where they wanted sexuality and gender of VAs to match those of the characters. Big VAs were proposed but turned down cuz they didn't fit the requirements, like Jamie Christopherson or Free Dominguez.
-This was when the dating sim idea was starting to be dropped in favour of Goodbye Volcano High.
-This is when KO_OP started to lose staff, not because of creative differences but because of 2020 coof shenanigans.
-It is believed the game at this point was using Unreal Engine 4 instead of Unity.
-The game also here was a 2.5D game, with 2D animated characters in a 3D environment.
-Because of creative differences, the 3D aspect was dropped, also believed that there was an issue with the rendering.
-At this point the game was getting close to a final raw version, with an estimated 80 employees that stayed consistent all during pre-development.
The game is divided in different acts, this is the script that was presented back in 2020.
ACT 1
-Game starts with Fang playing an electric guitar, a rhythm game starts in which you had to put your controller like it was guitar strings and the mouse or joystick like it was a tremolo.
-This Fang was really expressive, but also very insecure about her music. She was not able to accomplish certain notes while singing.
-Naser interrupts Fang to eat, the house is seen full of Hindu elements. Naser is shown as very controlling but also someone that loves to goof with his sister.
-There's some meteor foreshadowing on the TV, Fang looks at her phone and we see a mechanic in which you can change your calendar and to-do list that would change how you play the game. You could also check your social media, see your gallery, check your music, and you can collect stickers and keychains that would serve as achievements.
-Fang would put her headphones to go to school and wonder what music genre would help the band the most. This would change how some scenes played out, depending on the genre you choose.
-Getting to school, you can talk to whatever background character you want, in which they reveal small lore things but also unimportant stuff and talk about the school.
-You find Trish, in this version Mango doesn't exist but instead Leo would be there with her. Leo is not part of the band but likes hanging out with them, Stella and Sage appear and Leo leaves because he's very embarrassed of his crush on Sage and doesn't want him to see him lose his cool.
-They all talk, Stella was a more submissive and docile, and wears a long sleeve shirt instead of a short sleeved that she always wore before.
-First class happens, electronic devices stop working and Fang uses this time to compose a new song inside her head. You can choose rhythm and genre, and you see Fang playing every instrument.
-Class ends and now it's time for the first rehearsal, you can choose which song you play and depending on how you do it'll change how the scene plays. You do good, Fang will get in a frenzy and the visuals will change, depending on how you do the band will comment different things. Naomi enters, which can be rude, abrupt, playful or flirty. The decisions you make here will determine the type of guitar you play.
-Now you can either go home or stay a bit longer at school, if you choose the latter you'll have extra stuff to do:
  • You can meet Rosa beforehand.
  • You can help Stella with an anxiety issue.
  • Talk with Reed about his brother.
  • Meet the rival band.
  • Find a priest character who will come back later in the story.
  • Stickers and keychains to collect.
-When you get back home, news about the meteorite are all over the media, you can send memes about it or show concern in social media. Fang goes to sleep and has lucid dreams like she's in Silent Hill, it won't last more than 2 minutes but it represents Fang's insecurities.
-The game continues like normal, she'll talk with friends about everything that's happening and depending on the choices you made, in the next rehearsal Fang can try a song different from the usual genre to according to her "not get used to and close yourself to only one genre".
-During school, the news about the meteor hitting are more and more prevalent, with electronics failing people start to panic. The band goes home early but not without proposing a session of L&L.
-During the night, all characters plus Reed's brother will come and play L&L, your moral alignment will change what music and hobbies the character has. Characters will be references to anime and vidya here. It's up to the player here to lead the game to either be more serious or comical. When the game is over, everyone goes home but not before giving you the option to talk with whatever character you want.
ACT 2
-Fang sleeps, she sees the meteorite and has no mouth, she can't sleep and feels extremely lost. After waking up, she can choose to visit different characters and different scenes will play:
  • Visit Stella to see if her "magic" can talk with the meteorite. You can take a dark magic potion Stella makes which is just an hallucinogen, her house is full of religious imagery. Take the drug and Fang will go on an astral voyage, with different art styles. She find herself in the void with the meteorite, talking with it will give vague answers about life, love and what is life. You wake up sweating, and talk with Stella about what is destiny, but you can tell she is still hiding something from the player.
  • Visit Rosa in which she'll show you different plants. She says she feels pretty lonely, she also says how all flowers are different and adapt depending on their necessities. Fang sees this as how we're all different with our different issues and how we deal with them.
  • Visit Trish and they'll talk of the good old days, saying how Trish feels like Fang is more family than her own family. Trish's family is always busy, they're not bad people but Trish doesn't like them. Fang thinks about her dad and realises he's a happy man. You visit Reed after visiting Trish.
  • Visit Reed to talk about the band's future and the end of the world, you can interact with Reed's brother, Orson, who is very distant. He'll talk more the more you interact, saying how despite his wasted youth, he's happy Reed is going on a better path than him. If the interaction goes well, he can give you advice on how to meet certain notes and you'll unlock more songs.
  • Visit Naomi and she'll explain why she likes you. You can handle this differently, she'll reveal she's a huge metal fan and her dream is being in a concert during the end of the world with the people she loves.
  • Visit Sage and he'll show us all we've missed, he'll start cooking but make more mistakes than usual. He starts crying at one point and says nothing will get better and that he's useless. Fang can talk to him saying how happiness is in nothing specific but in everything we do and that for her even just being friends is a gift from the universe. Sage will then cook a bittersweet dish.
  • Visit Leo and we see he's from a high social status, but says he can't keep up with family pressure, which makes them get out and do graffiti. Fang realises the artistic potential in Leo, he paints a portait of her playing music, they're caught and run away. They find somewhere safe and Leo admits he loves art and shows a graffiti he did of him and Sage, the day ends well for him.
  • Visit Naser and he'll talk about how stuff are going, he'll panic saying how all is getting worse and will start drinking. They'll both get drunk and talk about everything, the bad, the embarrassing, the infuriating. He'll say he's lonely and at some point will feel so much anger at himself that he'll start banging his head against the wall until he bleeds. Fang then can take him to the bathroom to puke.
-All the described events can happen during the course of a bunch of days, sprinkled with rehearsal and L&L sections, but you can also stay home and do nothing.
-Meteor news get worse, Fang can't see her parents for now and classes are cancelled. Before getting together all on the beach, you can decide to do different things:
  • The priest character: This was Alvin's dad, Reed's crush. He's very conservative and strict on what his son can do. You can sabotage his ceremonies or show his more hateful side to others. At some point you can convince him that it doesn't matter our religion or who we are if we all die under the same sky and have the same feelings, and despite it all his son will always be his son, that he can accept him without affecting his faith.
  • Destroying the school: With the end of the world, you, Trish, Reed and Leo can destroy the school and film it all.
  • Naomi's date: Fang and Naomi can go on a date to a bar, Naomi won't feel safe in the bar we go and will start drinking a lot. Fang takes her back to Naomi's house and they'll be on the treehouse in her backyard, they'll start getting closer but get caught before doing anything.
-We then get to the end of the world party, which takes place at the beach. There's thousands of people and various bands which are references to irl ones. A lot of thing happen: Sage makes out with a lot of people, Stella gets horribly high, Trish breaks a bottle on someone, Naser gets lost, Reed gets super drunk, Rosa feels very uncomfortable... You can help all of them and even get on stage and sing, but you'll fall off the stage.
-No matter how the party ends, the police will arrive and stop everything. The gang goes to another beach further away with people you know and complete strangers. You can talk to others, even flirt and have a sex minigame (nothing explicit but very obvious). They all leave after a while.
-You see everyone again next time you go on a concert, in a bar owned by an acquaintance of Orson. Stuff will go badly even if you do well in the rhythm section. People will boo them and throw things at them, Fang runs and puts all fault onto her friends. She leaves under the rain and stops to see it, she sings a song that will change depending on your prior choices. She continues walking, crying, remembers her friends and we see a new screen in which they're all singing the same song Fang is singing. She gets back home, showers and then tunes her guitar, only for a string to break. She loses it, destroys a lot of things in her room, she then breaks a frame of the first concert her band had. She looks at her phone to see all of the photos she has. She picks up the destroy guitar and tries to play it like it's intact, imagining the song inside her head.
-Fang talks to her friends on message and everything seems alright but Naomi still says to have a small beach party. Sage brings homemade drink, they all sing a song badly and overall have a good time. But then, the bottle game starts and things get badly. Everyone is hinting things and saying mean words and everything gets out of control. Fang and Trish even start fighting physically until Rosa tries and separate each other, until the aurora borealis appears and everyone stays quiet. Now they all either leave or go to different places on the beach.
-You go card by card trying to solve each problem from each friend, unsure if the final idea was that depending on your previous choices this can be more difficult or impossible.
-Fang has another dream, in which she sees all her accomplishments and is singing a song she never finished to a group of people. Makes her think about how stuff are going, how it feels they're not coming out of her mouth. Depending now on who she tries to work things out with others, it'll change who's in the final concert.
ACT 3
Before summarising this part, there's some stuff from act 2 that can change how act 3 works entirely:
  • We can have more dates or L&L sessions before the final concert.
  • If we treat Stella badly when we visit her, she might not appear in act 3 which suggests the worst.
  • If we treat Trish badly, she'll beat us up and win during the beach mini party.
  • Depending on how we do during the priest side mission, Reed will either feel able to play or not.
  • If we treat Rosa badly, she won't show up in act 3 which makes Trish very sad.
  • Sage and Leo appearing depend on how they acted during the concert.
  • Depending on how Fang was in social media, it would impact how much people were at the concert.
-In the day of the end of the world, they'll decide to play on the rooftop of a building (tho if Fang is alone or with the band depends on how you treated them). You'll play the songs that happened during the game. At some point she'll send a text to her parents, that despite not being able to see them she loves them. More and more people will come and see the show and if we have a good relationship with Naser he'll say some heartfelt things.
-BAD END: Fang dies alone and not many see the concert, she'll have angry lyrics, think of how much she messed up and will say nothing matters because we're all gonna die. That she hopes in another life she can be a better person. All sound dies, the screen goes white and black, they all die.
-NEUTRAL END: Fang plays with some friends and for some in the public, being happy she can be with her loved ones one last time. She'll play the song she wanted to play for battle of the bands, they'll all look in the sky accepting their fate. All holding hands, every electronic failing and singing in harmony. Fang says how this is not the end of her world, implying the player can get a better ending.
-GOOD END: With all her friends, Fang will say that she's happy and that she had a good life, despite being the end of the world she doesn't regret anything. She tells people to talk now if they regret anything and people will say their darkest secrets. Leo will confess to Sage and say to please be his boyfriend, Stella will show her wrists full of cuts saying she has nothing to fear, Naser will burn his jacket saying it was always ugly, depending what happens with the characters you interact with they'll say they love you and kiss you, Rosa will put a dress with the trans flag colours, and Reed will confess his feelings to Alvin implying they'll get married if they survive. The sunset arrives, aurora borealis appears, they all wait the impending doom and instead see a meteor shower. The meteor got destroyed in hundreds of pieces, everyone celebrates and the band plays one last song called "Goodbye Volcano High".
-The first public trailer was shown when the game was 80% finished.
-It is believed half of the team left during this time, with a lot of issues a lot of the dialogue was cut.
-The trailer reaction wasn't good, people mocked it and they chose the worst scenes to showcase.
-The game was gonna be a PEG 16 but this was changed after they fired the head writer to be more accessible to general audiences. It limited creativity and a lot was cut.
-The game was getting rebooted and they had to do damage control.
-Characters had to be changed, a lot cut and some with their purpose altered.
-Lack of staff made it so people from different areas had to do all sort of work, like artists and programmers had to do their work interchangeably.
-Snoot Game releases around this time, not only now they were rewriting a complete script but also competing with Snoot. Some GVH devs even ended up liking Snoot, saying how it was much better than expected. However the parody made a lot of discord occur within the dev team, with some thinking it was just mean spirited and awful and others with a more open mind saying it was good. This caused some to leave.
-The second reboot gave more issues, with a new script and now KO_OP trying to clean their name, there was a lot of crunch for all employees.
-It is believed the final game didn't even have a finished script, and that the voice and quality control director wasn't taking his job seriously.
-The people who quit here is believed to have left because of all the stress they were under. A lot of the unused material they did is now believed to be lost media.
-The game was some sort of chimera of all different ideas and scripts.
-A lot of options and dialogue were cut because some characters were cut and it wouldn't fit with the overall story.
-Animations got cut, some became just simple editing tricks and stuff get reused over and over. The lack of staff and crunch made it impossible to have a good product.
-The lip syncing being off was due to not being a voice director, they didn't even know what the characters were doing.
-The models are inconsistent because they were made by different people.
-The staff that still remain decided to stay, but the game got divided reviews. It didn't got the success they wanted and didn't got the public they wanted.
-It is believed some stuff left in the files showed images and Snoot Game fanart as reference.
Take it all with a grain of salt, it could all be fake and gay after all.

Pleasantly surprised that some of the devs had the balls to play Snoot and see it isn't a meanspirited, hateful parody. Not shocked at all to hear that there are stubborn pozzed people that can't take any semblance of spice aimed their way.

Pouring one out for the OG GBVH that we didn't get, it sounds like they actually had something close to creative gut punches and wow! A bad end!

The cut content we've been shown is some combination of interesting and edgy in my opinion. On one hand, it seems like they were willing to do the impossible- character development and your choices actually mattering. On the other hand, I feel that the original script has a lot of unecesary edge. Does Fang REALLY need to have these ripoff Silent Hill dreams or some bizarre spiritual experience to show her insecurities or fears? Does Naser seriously need to slam his head against the wall and puke to show the affects alcohol has on people? Do Fang and Trish need to throw hands? (You can show conflict in several ways. Physically fighting doesn't match the conflict here, not to mention Fang and Trish are both girls.) Do we really need to have an implied orgy? (Further confirmation Kate Gray is a pedo).
I really like the concept of visiting different characters. It's an easy way to show their arcs from the perspective of Fang. And wow! Three endings, bad, neutral, and good. That's a common formula for games, and isn't too hard to write or code either.

Whats better, being unnecesarily edgy or being completely boring and forgettable?

I guess these leaks do confirm Rosa was a TIM from the start and it wasn't something KO_OP pulled out of their ass to spite Snoot fans. Besides that, although i may not have agreed with the message the game pushes and also some of the scenes shown, (The sex minigame being one, but someone already ninja'd me on calling Kate Grey a pedo) I at least would have respected the game for trying to be about SOMETHING, and daring to have some edge, but sadly, this isn't what we got. But at least we'll always have Snoot, and soon, Wani as well.

"...their horn has two stripes, which is the TRUE and HONEST number"

Wolf does admit on his Facebook page to having autism, if it wasn't incredibly obvious already.

So, only the picture with 2 stripes on her horn are valid?. Someone should send this picture to Nanaki, just to se his reaction.

I don't understand why they scrapped the project just because they fired the writer. It doesn't make any sense, they deserve their failure.

I'm really not into the drama, but it doesn't have any meaningful reason. It is perfectly legal, to begin with, you already paid the writer. If he is some sort of sex pest (I presume), again, nobody cares. They shoot themselves in the foot for no reason whatsoever.

I have this suspicion that if they kept the original writing material, ever dicksnot from Twitter to here would jumped on them with they "ya has work of bad person in yer gaaameee!"

How long until we get a fanproject to re-create the original GVH game? Just imagine how seething the devs will be, not just to get upstaged by the fans making Snoot but also having the toxic chuds "fix" their game post mortem(all for free)
I would unironically throw money at KO_PE if we could get the original vision but I sincerely doubt they will ever touch Fang and Co. again.

Cavemanon, please. I beg you.

They scrapped whatever Kate Gray had written because the radical lefties like KO_PE are unhinged and their twitter following would have them commit ritualistic seppuku to pay for their crimes if they had kept the original game intact.
You'd think normal people wouldn't care if a "pRoBlEmAtIc" writer was fired but their work kept but you forget, these people are not normal. Look at Activison-Blizzard, they have retconned easter eggs from WoW that were references to several former Blizz staffers including Jesse Mcree who is also the namesake of the Overwatch character. Normal fans didn't care about keeping the references intact, but because Blizzard is so pozzed they had to flagellate themselves while they changed their games.
