Barristers can correct me, but a judge in the United States cannot just set aside a jury verdict, can they? I know we saw some weird shit go down at the criminal level wirh juries that Nick watched, so I would assume a lawsuit would be similar.

It probably depends on each state, but I know at least in some states a judge can do this. There was a murder trial, where a child killed his father in his sleep, and was being tried as an adult. During the trial, we found out the child was horribly abused by his father and it was evident that the child (I think he may have been 10 - 12 years old) thought that killing his father was the only way out of his situation. The jury convicted the kid for 1st degree murder which carried an automatic life sentence. The judge disagreed with the jury and threw out the conviction.

A couple weeks ago I believe it was Kayla who popped in to confirm that he was meant to drive somewhere. (You couldn't see or hear the person speaking to him, however.)
