All this complaining about Null guarding on the one hand, and then being manipulated to shittalk people on the other both seem wrong to me.
It always read to me more as Null not wanting to talk about people he is/was being friendly with when they start exhibiting lolcow behaviours, because it usually starts out kind of ambiguous and he doesn't want to gossip about "friends", and what changes is that these individuals further descent into lolcowdom and start to say and do deplorable and ridiculous things to the point where his previous positive feelings about them evaporate and he increasingly starts to treat them like he would anyone else.
Like, Null is a person with human feelings about people and personal relationships and that affects how he covers those he is close to on his show, and it's not some machiavellian scheme on his end to manipulate a narrative, or succumb to blackmail by his forum, or whatever either side of the argument claim.

- Nick said that he knows people think he is out of touch on the dating scene. He thinks it would be bad for him if he had to go out and date again. He then launches into a story where a young 20 something was 'all over him'. He thinks it because of the confidence he gets from talking all the time. She didn't know about his YT success. It was great for Nick, but at the end, it just made him want to go back to his wife.
