Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

It's also frequently been said, on the occasional times this topic comes up, that this thread IS, for all intents and purposes, Ethan's cow thread. I think @jspit2.0 has been a big proponent of that reasoning.

Pretty much. At this point comicsgate has been coopted wholly by Frog and revolves around him.

If I suggested anything it's overhauling the OP. It currently says about EVS

God-tier artist working for DC Comics (Seriously, search for his art),

I'd change that

A terminally slow professional artist who was fired from Marvel for not drawing fast enough to meet deadlines. DC comics didn't mind and he was allowed to work with Geoff Johns and Dan Didio saying nothing as the company became woke and pandered to SJWs for a decade plus.

he is a practicing Mormon

He is not. He is non-practicing and grew up Mormon.

votes Republican and has conservative views,

He is a Republican, but he is pro alphabet community and used his support of gay marriage to dunk on Renfamous. He's a moderately conservative Trump fag.

though to my knowledge he hasn't publicly supported #Comicsgate,

Just evidence of how outdated the OP is.

though he is friendly with both sides, heavily leaning towards Pro-CG, and is widely criticized by SJWs for his political views. He is also on the record criticizing SJW culture.

This is important. Frog for the period when he was still in the club, rode the fence. I'd instead say...

Van Sciver had, throughout his entire career been an online troll. He would actively post online in the early internet, even at one point telling a fan, in jest to kill himself. None of this would have caused waves, early CG antagonist and human canceraids Mark Waid was equally online and vile. But Van Sciver happened to have the wrong politics. Activists within the comics industry continued to target the artist, which became easier as in addition to his terribly slow pace he chose to work with SJWs like Gail Simone, leading to a series of failures that eliminated the shield he had from his early work with Geoff Johns.

It depends here whether the author wants to go into Melissa Morgue, the guy on the political shitposting thing EVS had where the suicide thing happened. Other various incidents. I think it's more pertinent that Frog is, at his heart, a shit heel when it comes to the internet.

He runs a channel called ComicArtistPro Secrets, in which he streams himself while working on his art, and discusses behind-the-scenes stuff, he is

This is not an accurate description.

Witnessing the early success of Internet YouTubers like Richard C Meyer and Captain Cummings (who he would later refuse to give credit to due to both men being spergs); Van Sciver started ComicartistPro Secrets. The channel spent its formative years making art videos and hosting interviews with creatives. However, once Richard C Meyer crowdfunded Jawbreakers, showing commercial viability outside of comics and Van Sciver 'chose' not to renew his contract with DC Comics, it changed dramatically. Van Sciver ratcheted up his 'culture war' cred. He recruited a number of fellow professionals blacklisted by the mainstream and brought them into a consumer movement they'd never shown real alignment with prior. At the time, he did not make videos going after the industry or fellow pros, instead grifting off of the Star Wars Last Jedi abomination.

This is where we get to the meat.

Forces within CG resented Van Sciver's success as well as the fact he was essentially gatekeeping people he didn't like and throwing elbows. It culminated in the formation of a group of internet wannabe tough guys called Warcampaign. Van Sciver sat back as his War Campaign, hereafter referred to WC, went around, aloging his enemies, threatening them, and generally being a cluster of degeneracy and autistic retardation. Over the course of a couple of years, Van Sciver would insist on absolute loyalty and obedience and when there was ever a slight, real or imagined, he would turn on the 'backstabber'. It didn't help that often the other people in his orbit were more faggy and degenerate than him, making him look better in comparison.

Mention of the lateness

Ironically, the meat of comicsgate, the absolute lack of respect of the customer, shoddy work; became a problem. Van Sciver would always release his comics years late. Any criticism was met with a degree of resentment, with the 'actual motive' disputed.

From here I'd talk about the High Council, briefly, then mention Van Sciver getting mired in drama only to find the Fandom Menace had passed him by. After, I want to say he was high? Anyway on a livestream he insulted a FNT guy and the ring leader, a bottle glass wearing thin skinned ex con basically black listed him. Which cost him access to a lucrative pay piggy center he needed after consistently alienating fans and potential backers left and right over the prior years.

That's how you get to the current period, with him siding against July; who judging from black rappers words on the matter seems did not want to help Van Sciver with the FNT blacklisting.

I'm stunned to find out Mint Salad is now CG-adjacent. She was always one of Tony's (Hack the Movies) hooches along with Crystal Quin and that Italian broad.

Are we sure that's not Tony's tiny peen she's always sooking and fooking in her homemade pornos?
Nice set, it's very cool. Yes very cool. Really very cool. So very cool I remember Bobafet.

@jspit2.0 Great start! Add a little more stuff about the controversies and all the people Ethan backstabbed and we can see about getting the mods to update the OP.

Thanks, but I agree Mr. Dongs is the thread fav. The backstab phrasing is how Ethan would describe anyone who inevitably had enough of his shit and cut ties.

If anyone writes a new Comicsgate OP in my opinion it should be @Mister Dongs
Also preserve the current OP because it is a historical picture of what this used to be. The only resemblance to the 2017 style Comicsgate documented in OP happening today is JDA's creepy weirdo sometimes IRL stalking of Heather Antos.
Of course it should be @Mister Dongs, assuming he has the free time to write it (it sounds like a ton of work).
Just please don't split the thread in two, both threads would be more dead than CG.

Ike aims has done allot of stuff RE FNT and would be an invaluable resource. I would urge people, if they do want a new OP, to not foist it onto one brave soul.

It’s cute that people think that @FROG isn’t here any more. He’ll be here, he’s a narcissist. Autistic CGer’s who are full on in supporting him because having sex with a woman is frightening to them are sending him screenshots of the thread no doubt.

I suspect he’s giggling at all this thinking he’s won in a 180iq big brain move.

Instead it’s all just retarded boomer gayops. @FROG has made himself a pitiful character and that will catch up with him.

Based on the two live streams he did today, it seems like he really Really can not get over Eric not being part of CG, officially or overtly in public. EVS's ego is more bloated than his gut and he keeps trying to position himself as the sugar daddy of Eric, ("I gave him career advice", "I told him to do this", "my cover for him made this much money", etc). Whether or not he is, whining like a high school girl to get someone to retweet your gay hashtag once a month or join your club, is usually not going to get someone to do said things for you.
Eric July turned to everyone for advice. Frog. Frog's friends. Frog's enemies too. He's sort of like 19th Meiji-era Japan where he took everything that worked for everyone else and discarded the rest. When the time was right and he felt he no longer had to, ole Rippa has stopped holding his tongue and begun presenting his own novel theories as to the problems regarding comics and fandom, as befits his recently earned station as leader. This raises the total number of Comicsgate theses to three.

  • Ya Boi Zack: The first thesis, articulated by Richard C. Meyer in the early days of CG in the form on an interminable number of youtube videos made on his phone, railed against (along with many other things) the idea of a "comics community". The socialization of comic book fans has led to a customer base that was coerced into accepting substandard work on threat of exclusion, and forced creators into being exploited for substandard pay, also on threat of exclusion. Substandard work for substandard pay. Given how the Comicsgate fandom has turned out, it's hard to disagree. The way free of this was was to reject the concept of community and hold the industry to a basic standard of customer service. The famous "we're running hot dog stands out here" analogy. The problem with Zack's stance of anti-fandom was that there were also vital benefits to having a fandom, like an engaged and loyal audience as well as incredibly potent marketing far more effective than traditional advertising, tools that are employed by the most powerful media corporations in the world that CG was supposed to bring to heel. When forced on what to replace a fan community with, Zack had nothing. On top of that, his customer service was atrocious, which kind of took the wind out of his customer-centric advocacy. Unable to admit his ideas were flawed but also unable to address the glaring problems in his theories out of pride, Zack receded into the background to sneed, where he's been ever since.
  • Ethan van Sciver: The second theory was never formallly presented together either, but is what I've managed to piece together out of a million meandering Frog anecdotes. Immersed in comics fandom for decades as a high-level creator, Frog identified the decline of print journalism, and of comics publicity 'zines like Wizard specifically, as a major cause in the decline of comics fandom and the perceived (and real) worth of comic creators. A great fan of the then-recent Gamergate and IBS scenes seemingly making instant celebrities out of otherwise marginal figures, Frog developed a theory of comic creators working together to become their own YT-driven publicity machines, adoping larger than life personas like Wizard used to present them as. This would be a fandom with no publisher, no editor or corporate owner holding the reigns - a compact purely between fan and creator. So basically the exact opposite of Zack's theory. This definitely drove attention, and blew Zack's ideas into the shoe store netherrealm without even realizing he did it or why Zack was pissed, but the madness of an unchecked fandom has been chronicled on for thousands of pages in this thread. Only now that Frog has been supplanted as 'top dog' and can no longer simply point at his campaign totals as absolute proof of his arguments has he been forced to come to terms with some of the unintended consequences of what he's done. The much greater committment and stress of being a constantly online semi-kayfabe e-celeb vs being featured in a Wizard puff piece. How the insatiable lust for attention of 'creators' from 'fans' has supplanted any passion for the original cause, and eventually even the comics themselves. When defending the value of criticism, he related (again) the story of how one of the few people he could find that was critically engaging with the actual story of Cyberfrog in a meaningful way... was Vikki. The 'Van Sciver method' of crowdfunding has been adopted by all sorts of people that couldn't give a fuck about comics but do have followings. One can't imagine that Andrew Tate launching a $99 "collectible" comic that looks like it was drawn by a child to bilk his paypig cult using the 'Van Sciver method' fills Frog with pride as a would-be champion of the medium. Especially because he didn't get a cut.
  • Eric July: Outlined in his video released a couple of weeks ago "Making Money in Comics - The Overview", this is probably the closest that CG and the CG-adjascent have come to presenting a formal thesis. Promising 'brutal truth' that 'certain people aren't going to like', July lays out the reasons the western comic industry is dying: the business model is bad. A corrupt and monopolistic cabal between publishers, distributors and makeshift local comic shops formed decades ago that simply isn't competitive against big box bookstores and streamlined supply chain service models. All those middlemen must take large cuts to eke out a marginal existence and have been made obsolete by manga. And even in it's "glory days", comics was a pathetic niche compared to other entertainment mediums. The business model was always bad. Regarding the advent of crowdfunding, Eric states that while it has decentralized the necessary capital to start a business, it has opened the door to shirkers "[who] have no business bone in their body that no idea what they're doing", and 'comic creatives on youtube' who's 'expertise' is in a is in a dysfunctional and soon to be gone way of doing things best left in the dustbin of history. These unnamed pros have never run an actual business before in their lives, just corporate worker bees who fell backwards into money by accident. Listen to them on matters of creating the comic itself, but nothing else. The viewer on the other hand, they have the opportunity to do things properly with a clean slate, and July is willing to help with some basic guidance he's learned on his journey. Said journey led him to conclude that the best course of action for an operation of his scale was starting a full publishing business with salaried workers, budgets, books completed in advance by professional creators from the mainstream, and a solid business plan modeled around the realities of what a comic publishing house operating in 2023 are. As far as Eric July's fandom fueling this business, the Rippaverse, it will be centered around himself and the Rippaverse products owned by him. The values held and championed by the Rippaverse are detailed clearly and in writing in the 'Rippaverse Code of Ethics'. Anything not contained within his property and his stated code is not his problem. Other people can learn from what he's doing and follow suit, or not. Not his problem. Fans now have a choice of going with the mainstream comic fandom (fandom A) or joining the Rippaverse fandom (fandom B), which in concept will be (other than the RCoE) indistinguishable from one another and fling shit at each other like retarded monkeys until the end of time. Have at it. #WeWillWin.
Now that is a good idea! It will make for a great updated OP for newcomers and those curious to see how Comicsgate devolved into a utter clusterfuck because of one mans ego and sociopathy.
No one man could make Comicsgate the clusterfuck it is. Truly, it is a team effort, fueled by the love of comics, grifting, and autism. Sounds fun though.

An absolutely retarded(but fun/funny) scenario to ponder: Is it possible EVS is building some weird multi-media mafia network? Could all this fighting perhaps be intended to weed out the chaff and leave him with loyal capos?
Yeah but the problem with that theory is like who are the loyal capos being selected through this darwinian mechanism here? Davis and Malin? If Frog doesn't take a break from fighting the rest of grifttube help them out there's a good chance those two clowns will lose to fucking Parnell and Biggons. EVS starts making moves and his "capos" are busy trying to plot some revenge scheme against PTP for not inviting them to a booth at some flea market comic con. What the fuck? He's almost better off teaching Mint Salad how to draw. Speaking of, let's check on how that's going:

1697660541193.png

One thing I forgot to mention in the PTP-Biggons stream was one of Biggons' complaints: that the offering of "Con exclusive variant covers" as an incentive to attend C2E2 was an unfair burden on completionists - fans that invest in buying a complete collection of a creator's total output - to attend the con. Translated: Biggons is fucking choked that he must either accept that his complete collection of Davis and Malin comics will now be incomplete, or he will have to fork out to buy the comics used to fund the shitting all over his competing CG con meetup. Hahahaha, suck it Paypiggons. Also apparently he forgot that PTP also puts out con-exclusive material, but that's not the actual issue here.

The original Creepsters was on KS too, so @NasserRabadi13 obviously doesn't give a fuck. Good on him.

EDIT: JDA has been bitching for a while about Nasser unfriending him and courting Iconic, which makes this even better.

One of my favorite bits of hypocrisy, you must fundraise on Indiegogo and not seek a new market.

@Mister Dongs

A good question regarding CG and one I usually let slip because I don't care too much is....what is victory?

Was it to make money? So someone give me a dollar, there I made cash. If Frog coming up with ever more ludicrous tiers to bilk a small number of fanatical backers is success, what does that ultimately prove. That a less qualitative product sold at a higher dollar amount will replace increasing irrelevance by future of spending power?

I would argue that money isn't the greatest bar of success especially when, as in this case, it's compared to who and what?

Is it market place access? That wasn't a good thing Red Rooster and Mitch.

To me Richard C Meyer's breaks down into two phases. Richard pre Jawbreakers launched a critique, hard to reconstruct with his deletion spree, of creators treating the people that basically made comics an industry, the people buying product, as the least important and unnecessary piece of it, creatives being entitled and unprofessional, and that the quality of the product was laughably terrible. Post Jawbreakers Meyer's slowly dropped his professionalism critique and that left the two others. But I think it's important to understand the plugged in nature of CG autists that now are Frogs fan club began with that critique, by Meyer, of creators egregiously online behavior and his response by being extra vitriolic to them in return, taking advantage of twitter to 'clap back' in.a way fans weren't able to do in the message board days. There weren't mods that, say, Heather Antos could bully or cajole to stop Richard from making fun of her on Twitter and YT, at least not at first.

Ethan wants them just dumb enough, ready to bow and posing no threat. While at the same time just smart enough to know where their money is coming from. These guys have the egos of champions but know deep down they don't have what it takes personality wise to make bank on their own. Sometimes they admit it openly.
Anyone truly leadership worthy would be driven out by the unworthy leader (IMO) that they have now.
Shane and Jon have to hold on tight to Ethan's coattails and say as little against him as possible or they will be the next ones with 10 people watching them. That is how it goes.
Until it doesn't, anyway...

As for revenge on PTP-
Jon disappeared for 2 weeks and this appearance on 'The Ballers' (wouldn't recommend) was his return to streaming:

Everyone seems to agree that it's Malin's job is to go after the 'rats'.
Shane would like to be a good 'dog' and help destroy PTP, the old friend he believes tried to kill him with shellfish at some convention meetup, or some bullshit like that.
Biggons is fucking choked that he must either accept that his complete collection of Davis and Malin comics will now be incomplete, or he will have to fork out to buy the comics used to fund the shitting all over his competing CG con meetup. Hahahaha, suck it Paypiggons
I have always disliked Biggons, he says the stupidest, most egoist shit, and tells everyone that he knows best, but I do have to admit I found it strange that Ethan threw him under the bus so hard for just giving his opinion when he is such a big supporter. Maybe the steady stream of money into Ethan's bank account has already dried up?
I know EVS is determined to ruin anyone who badmouths him and his plans, but Biggons must be feeling pretty shellshocked after all the money he sunk in to CG. But then, maybe he'll see the error of his ways and shut his mouth, who knows?
One can't imagine that Andrew Tate launching a $99 "collectible" comic that looks like it was drawn by a child to bilk his paypig cult using the 'Van Sciver method' fills Frog with pride as a would-be champion of the medium. Especially because he didn't get a cut.
Apparently, EVS is working with Andrew Tate (or his team at least) to put out a comic right now. He has been recruiting CG creators to work on it. Even Smiller has mentioned that he was offered a gig on it but turned it down because Andrew is such a sleazy guy that it goes against his 'principles'. Some CGers have pointed out that EVS badmouthed Andrew Tate pretty thoroughly and then the next day changed his tune after being offered the gig. But yeah, he's worried about associating the Comicsgate name with degrading shit...

Anyway, credit to my recent bouts of insomnia for some of this worthless knowledge even being in my brain.

For Frog's part in CG history the schism with Mike needs to be in there.
When Frog came on the scene he wanted to bring his pro credentials and "Gravitas" to the party. I think the point may have been getting a good comic, and not just an "indie" one. Hence when Frog came around he brought other "Pros" with him, such as Mike Miller.

If you recall the Early days of Mike joining the scene he was on the verge of losing his house. There was a big thank you for saving it, he was "Joining our side" as it was put. Another Pro had come over and legitimized the "Comic" part of comics gate. Not only would the "CG" comic be anti-sjw, but also a good comic on its own merit? No fuckin' way right? This all goes back to customer service of course. The Big two didn't have any and CG would.

Mike's almost lost house was indicative of two things. The Big two were paying cat food wages, and that "CG" would pay better. "CG" was the place every pro wanted to be. You should be on our side because we got "6 figures bitch"

Mike got crowdfunded on Loanstar, and would then go on to spit up a triple pack of comics he had laying around. Anyone remember "The Meg" campaign?
I can't quite remember when the true schism started between Mike and Frog, but it culminated in an official livestream excommunicado spurred on by Frog's Wife's claim that "Mike isn't your friend" and Edwin calling for War Campaign to officially get the CG boot. Also there was the Fudge Stream.
Mike and Frog fighting was probably where Frog took majority stake in CG. Assisted by War Campaign and with Mike Gone it was Frog's ship to run into the ground from there. Frog was after all holding the excommunicado streams.

I made a thread on Eric July. Its missing a ton, but I wanted to get the ball rolling.
Why? Eric isn't the cow. He has some qualities but he isn't a full on lolcow like Nick, Dax, Vito the Pedo or EVS. Eric also didn't start shit either. It was Dax and his retarded pet pedophile that started shit with him and then his dickriders like Nick and EVS came to his defense to try to ruin Eric's career in defense of a pedophiles ego. Why don't you go back to EVS Twitter and suck his dick more. Hell, buy another copy of Cyberfrog while your at it. Sure it will come around some time in the next 5 years. Coming here thinking we would praise you and help you. Oldfags like you should know better by now.

Nothing about him is lolcow material? Nothing at all? Every time trolls mess with him he flips out and makes it a public spectacle. I don't really care about the feud he's been having lately, its not that interesting to me. The video he made lately in which he said because Sonic serves hotdogs and sonic the hedgehog eats hotdogs, therefore he can't be sued is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. I made a thread because of that video.
