Didn't read/watch Gone Girl, but I did read Sharp Objects and I remember thinking the main character was hard to sympathize with. It was years ago. Patrick Rothfuss did in The Wise Man’s Fear, but the women were martial artists, which is kind of a stereotype in and of itself. I can’t say I would recommend that series; it has some good moments but it’s moid-heavy and I doubt Rothfuss will ever finish it. (Again, credit to my girl Jo Rowling, who, despite being married with two small children, in court all the time because everyone was jealous of her, and hardly able to move because of the British paps, still managed to finish Harry Potter.)
