The Ninja one from after episode 200 was very good, Doom Memories and Contra Memories was very good as well. When he’s on he’s on.
The Last Ninja made me properly laugh out loud.
The part with the boat, where he finally makes the jump onto it, just to fail the next jump

Can't remember the last one that made me laugh that hard.

Latest episode is quite good. I think he has more hits than misses in 2023, if I remember correctly. Good for him.

Watched the episode, and I enjoyed it. Looking back, I always seem to enjoy his more cinematic endeavors, like with Polybius and the Bearenstein Bears. Sound was…what it was, I don’t know how to judge that unless it’s really terrible, and the acting was pretty damn good for a web show.

Also, the priest was awesome. Even if James was trying to go for the priest from The Exorcist, I can’t help but think a Nintendo Priest is something MovieBob would come up with (he’s probably kicking himself for not thinking of it first, to my knowledge).

Though I will say that the dummy at the end is enough to dock some points. It looked so fake and the camera stayed on it too long.

I think that was done on purpose to be funny, I know I was laughing at it. I love when dummies are used in a way where you obviously can tell it’s a dummy.
Benny Hill used to do the same thing. He’d have a dummy falling down a cliff or tumbling down a steep hill and when it would land at the bottom, it would stay there for a second before cutting to him getting up and dusting himself off or whatever. Shit cracks me up every time.

Anyway, I’m going back and watching some of the older Halloween episodes now since we only have a couple more days of Spooktober left.

I think I’m gonna make a full episode tier list one of these days.

Hell yeah another good AVGN episode. James is doing really well this year. I hope he's sort of finding his mojo again after relying on the slobs for so long (though that Simpsons Monster Madness episode sucked).
That Jekyll and Hyde game is mind bogglingly shitty though, even more than the first review showed. Everything from the plot to the gameplay, difficulty, enemies, atmosphere is all hot garbage.
The only thing it has going for it is the opening screen song, and that was stolen from fucking Rygar.
I really have no idea how any Japanese kids even bothered beating that game back in the day. An actual, certified shitload of fuck.

nd a chapter in Nerd history is finally closed.
Am I the only one who watches these recent videos and feels there's a subtext that Rolfe really wishes he could kill off the Nerd?

I said before the LJN thing felt like it should've been an epic conclusion to a long series. Of course AVGN kept going. But lately it feels like he revisits a lot of old material to give it a do-over, and in this one he even has his older version from the future travelling back in time and dying... before modern-Nerd dies too. After finally beating THE game that started the series.

It's like the man is saying "please, let me stop being the Nerd! Accept this conclusion and let this disappear into the past!"

Such as? He’s been doing original stuff in the AVGN videos since episode 200.

You’re not the only one but there isn’t a lot of people who think this way. He’s been making better content since the slobs left despite what many on Reddit and even some on here say.

J&H was the second video, Simon’s Quest started the series.

Mega man games felt like a finale of sorts, even did the time travel thing

I've also noticed that there's more camera angles and the lighting is more vibrant than in the other "modern" AVGN episodes. Is it possible that someone showed James the Cinemassacretruth memes?

"Contra How I Remember It" -- people here were even bitching it re-told his story of beating Contra before breakfast.

Garfield wound up being a revisit to the Crazy Castle games at the end.

the Indiana Jones video makes no secret its a followup to his old review.

A Boy and His Slob... errr, Blob.... was a game he had briefly mentioned in his Wish List video.

Yeah and it probably helps it comes out less frequently.

I could do without the film parody shtick, but this is an issue I even had with the classic era videos so eh.

J&H was the second video, Simon’s Quest started the series.
My mistake, yeah.

Probably would be more accurate to say that J&H was probably the biggest remaining demon he needed to either vanquish or make peace with (arguably he doesn't even hate Simon's Quest).
