The Youtube Anti-Ad Blocker Campaign and how to survive without Youtube - All Jewtoob hate goes here

Google is such a dominant company when it comes to web technology and the hosting platform for all of the web's videos. Because they have such a monopoly, they can effectively make a shitload of money by saying "if you don't disable your adblocker then enjoy pain and misery", why? cause nobody has made a YouTube alternative that is successful, everybody just goes to YouTube because laziness, idk.

I know PHP/JavaScript/HTML and how to tie external programs all together, I can create an open source YouTube alternative and give anybody the ability to install use it.

Fuck Google and their bullshit tactics.

But can you make it look like how it used to back in the day?

I set up a pihole on my home server (read "a spare computer") and I haven't had any issues with that on top of ublock origin.

Finally got hit with the warning. Always used uBlock Origin. Turns out what triggered it was Brave Shields. Left uBlock on and toggled off Brave Shields and the warning went away.

Ublock works for me usually, it needed a few cache updates, but it had been stable for weeks now.

Invidious is getting slightly unstable

Interesting, I figured it was just the instance I was on that was getting hammered. But when I switched to another US instance, I'm getting the same "Could not get channel info" errors. These were transient a few days ago but now persist. My retarded guess is it's mostly YT trying to plug every last hole, and secondarily the fact that these independent and poorly funded Invidious servers might be seeing actual use outside their normal niche circle of neckbeards.

Whatever happened to HookTube? I liked it a lot, but it's been gone for a while.

I have AdBlock Plus and UBlock Origin. If I watch through Bing (I just type it in search and go to Bing and Youtube from there), I get no pop up screen, no black with the rolling circle of death, or ads.

Only thing I notice is Youtube's algorithm no longer shows what I've been watching. Each time I go, the home page is whatever they show as if I've visited the site for the first time. Never saves/remembers stuff I've watched prior and sidebar is also always random.

But zero popups, zero ads, zero black screen--since Youtube started this stuff. Not a single time. Try it!

People go to YouTube because Google has poured millions into making your suggestions exactly what will make you continue scrolling through YouTube.

While not nearly the worst, or most toxic, social media platform, that would belong to Reddit and Twitter respectively, YouTube is the most addictive and easily accessible. In addition to being the only platform with content you consume in the background.

I've not had any problem with youtube although I have uBlock just sayin'. This is a big fucking nothingburger nothing has changed despite youtube's best attempts, they can't even fix youtube so how would they be able to detect if someone's using an adblocker or not?

The uBO team just updated the quick fix filters to get around YouTube's latest attempt.

This is the best way to deal with this for now, for those still having problems: -

1. Install uBlock Origin. If it's already installed, make sure it's up to date. Make sure you have no other ad-blockers enabled, including ones built into the browser. Also, some extensions that "enhance" YouTube have an ad-blocking feature so if you use one of those, make sure you turn the ad-blocking part off.

2. Check this website to see if the uBO filters currently deal with the issue: -

If it says "YES" and the page is green, if you haven't done so already, all you need to do is force an update of the quick fix filters in uBO. If it says "NO" and the page is red, you need to wait for the uBO team to roll out a filter update.

3. To update the quick fix filter, go into uBO's options, click "Filter lists" at the top, click the little clock icon to the right of "uBlock filters - Quick fixes", then hit the "Update now" button at the top.

If you're having issues, it's either because you have ad-blocking enabled via another extension or your browser itself, which YouTube is detecting, or you're using extra/custom filter lists which are causing an issue. In the latter case, just use uBO's default filters and disable your custom filter list, just to see if that works.

For times when YouTube have updated their script, but the uBO team haven't defeated it yet, you can browse YouTube while logged in on your regular account, but instead of clicking on a video to play it, right-click on the video, copy the link to it, open an incognito tab, then paste the link in there. You will get no ads and no pop-up, but that particular video won't show up in your YouTube history as obviously you're playing it in a tab where you're not logged in.

For the last couple of weeks, YouTube have been updating their script 1-2 times per day on week days, often around 5-6PM GMT, then again around 11-Midnight (sometimes they don't do the second update). They have not updated the script on Saturday or Sunday yet.

I almost figured they hadn't updated for the last week or two but I did get blocked again today. Luckily uBlock had already put up the workaround.

Here is literally all you have to do:
-Install uBlock Origin on Brave
-Every time Youtube sends you the nastygram about turning off that pesky adblock, go into ublock's Extension Options UI and do the following:
-Purge all caches
-Update now
-Refresh Youtube.

That's it. It's not a particularly robust adblock detection, they're banking on users being too stupid to use a search engine for 10 minutes to figure out how to circumvent it.

It's funny to see how quiet all these freedom fighters and champions of the little guy are being on the site about this. They know that if somehow Pajeet Mohan gets some intrusive way of blocking adblockers in videos, it'll mean "more" money for them
Critikal's video on it was completely defeatist for example.

Has any of them brought up how now you would have to watch 3 ads in a row, and get into a video with ads injected into them in forms of sponsorshits? It's ridiculous.

Better option: disable Brave's adblock so that uBO is the only one doing the job so you lower your chances of getting detected, because more adblockers =/= better adblocking. uBO is all you need, and if it's not good enough, the issue is in lacking filter lists, not in not enough adblockers.
Even better option: install Librewolf and get true privacy without buying into Brendan Eich's grift, and to cut yourself off of Google by moving to the Firefox codebase rather than using yet another Chromium fork.

On android, Youtube Revanced + MicroG works great. The only slowness I have encountered is when my internet is too slow for sponsorblock and Return Youtube Dislike integrations time out. You can either patch your own APKs using revanced manager or download precompiled APKs at their github page.

On desktop though, traditional YT adblockers still work if you do not sign in (i.e. incognito mode). If you do feel the need to sign in though, you use Ublock Origin (+privacy badger optional) and you really should be good to go.

As far as I noticed in desktop, they use cookies to track whether ads are delivered to you or not. When you hit a specific threshold of not having any ad watched/delivered, it triggers the anti adblocking annoyances until you finally decide to clear your specific youtube cookies, install Ublock origin, and go back to whatever you were watching on youtube.

True. I have not browsed those long ass videos where content creators talk 2 hours about some pointless subject so I'm not as hooked as Google makes me look to be but because it's the only service where you can share videos for a worldwide audience, I feel forced into using YouTube anyway even though the content is trash.
