There's nothing wrong with being ambitious, but the thing that rubs me and probably others wrong about him is his arrogance and inability to take any criticism, however constructive. Nobody is expecting him to be next Peter Jackson or Ken Burns, but nevertheless, theres a minimum required amount of planning ahead and management for a project like this. Instead, the pacing is all out of whack and the show has zero consistency. It jumps between challenges, things are presented without any context, it's 4 episodes in and nobody has still mentioned what the show is even about. I predict it's going even more off the rails because they have to tell 30 days of story over 6 half-hour episodes. Why did they even restrict themselves to 10 episodes in the first place? I'm sure he learned a lot from the first season and that's okay. What is not okay is responding to any criticism with a variation of "I'm right, you just don't get the high art I'm making". Of course that's going to piss people off.
this. for all the effort sam, jet and the team as a whole actually, put into making themselves to be this ultra avant-garde group of internet cool but fucked up guys, they sure do just look like just trust fund hipsters. which is insane to me since sam used to dunk so much on this stereotype, but maybe that's the point and I'm not in on the joke. "I'm not a hipster I'm just very self-aware".It’s going to be interesting to see what Jet with an ego is like on cam during season 2
So ideally this goes so damn well that investors get dividends, outside of that the other scenario would be a some kind of buyout/aquisition:The Wefunder campaign hit its initial $1M goal, so for whatever reason (likely to get paypiggies to think they're getting in on a sweet deal) they raised the goal to $1.5M. Also the campaign doesn't seem to have an end date and who knows how the funds are managed so at least on the surface the whole thing seems like a convoluted way to donate the show money so Sam can roid rage more doors in half and destroy kitchens with a weed-whacker without putting any of his own/his investors' money in.
Looking at the campaign's description, there's absolutely no way Jet & co can pull off the stuff they promise. So far, they've doxed their users twice (in the beginning, your email was your username in chat, and later, they didn't use blind carbon copy for mass email notifications) and had a difficult time presenting a show that ended 5 months ago in a coherent and consistent manner, so I have a little hard time believing they'll be able to create a MMORPG without it having the worst possible execution.
I remember what Sam thought about Notch giving up on to Mojang and leaving a strong financially successful thing to rot in corporate hell. How will I make a return on my investment, and when?
We’re not able to make lots of future projections, but we have big ambitions for the company.
If we have a successful exit in the future (like an IPO, merger, or acquisition) for more than that amount, you’ll see a return on your investment. In the future depending on our level of success we may also have the potential to offer dividends.
Letty said the same when she watched the first episode on stream on YouTube. So the first and second place contestants both agreed on it publicly.is she the only closely show-associated person (with potentially future CoI), to not blindly kissing boot?
Something else I thought about the episode is um, I don't think to new viewers who come in - they didn't really explain the premise of like, the show. So maybe they should add like a trailer or something in the first few minutes or like before the pilot just to like explain the premise of the show, because I feel like as a new viewer it would be difficult to understand what's happening.
Considering Nick and Charls were just busy during season one I think it's almost guaranteed that they'll be reoccurring guests. I'm thinking Nick as the home and safety inspector and Charls is nu-chip: just a schizo homeless guy they let live in the house. One of the biggest fears about season 2 is that Jets ego will form in him trying to have more screen time on the show. Jet didn't appear too often, not counting when he was in the shark outfit, but I could see him thinking he deserves more screen time or that he needs to have a goldstriker type character. One of my biggest hopes is that Sam is more involved, even if it's just planning because Sam can actually be funny and seemed to understand the appeal of fishtank more than Jet plus he's obviously been involved with production of a real tv show. I know Sam was pretty busy with WP2 during fishtank season 1 but he's probably more free now and hopefully reigns Jet in to make sure he doesn't mess up one of the best things to happen to Nu-MDE. There's a lot of potential for the show, it's definitely not reached it's peak, but it could run into some big problems if it's not planned well this time. Again, season 1 got very lucky.
Not just appearances, but his horribly drawn-out bits, like the endless poop crime drama. A poopie on the floor can be funny, but hours of nothing-theatre around it, with no other punchline than "alright, bit over. Go back to what you were doing" is anti-entertainment. I totally agree with the people reading him (later on in the show) as one confusing "people want to watch strange people interact" with "people think I am funny".One of the biggest fears about season 2 is that Jets ego will form in him trying to have more screen time on the show.
I was willing to acknowledge a job well done on season 1. There were plenty of flaws, but I was optimistic on the Jet + crew learning from them. With his bitchmade attitude about criticism though I’m now entirely convinced it was just lightning in a bottle. The tts directed at Jet will be funnier than what anyone says about the actual fish.Again, season 1 got very lucky.
Can someone explain who this is?It's the real me! There should be interesting conversation here, I don't plan on sticking around long.
these bits wouldn't work, they'd have just barely worked in season 1, because s1 at the very least had 1 person who wasn't familiar with MDE - Simmons - and they got rid of him over a dumb chomo scare, which in effect got rid of the only contestant not in on the jokeI'm thinking Nick as the home and safety inspector and Charls is nu-chip: just a schizo homeless guy they let live in the house.
Mauro also had no prior knowledge of Sam or MDE but was so uninteresting his reactions added little. I really, REALLY hope for season 2 they can find some actual people who haven't heard of MDE for the show.these bits wouldn't work, they'd have just barely worked in season 1, because s1 at the very least had 1 person who wasn't familiar with MDE - Simmons
An incredibly obsessive Josiecel who posted massive screeds about loving Josie on /ftl/. I think he's the one who met her at Game On Expo in August and hung around her booth after asking her out and getting shot down. Not sure if he's been banned from Josie's YT chat or if he just finally gave up and started lurking but I haven't seen him in her streams in over a month. Last dono he gave was about 2 or 3 weeks ago asking her to read some DM he sent her. I assume it's completely unhinged and creepyCan someone explain who this is?
nah.Can someone explain who this is?
I don't think there was a day he wasn't in the house in plain clothes (no shark outfit), sometimes multiple times per day. I feel like once they saw the viewership they were getting the more Jet tried to put himself in the spotlight instead of running things behind the scenes.Jet didn't appear too often
I fully agree with you here, Sam was easily one of the best parts of the show and I recall everyone in chat and in this thread eagerly anticipating Jason Goldstriker's daily appearances every time.
