Russian Special Military Operation in the Ukraine - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

Oh no, a low flying plane has a couple dents! And there is putty on the cockpit glass! Surely Russia is done for now!
Westerners apparently have never heard of birds. Or sealant.

NGL, as a Westerner, close-ups of Russian aircraft going back to WWII always make me salute the daring bravery of Russian pilots.

I think they're so delusional that they genuinely believe that they can go to the Russians whenever it suits them to cut a deal, that they would have no intention of honoring,

The entire Western professional class has been infected with this brainrot that has caused them to believe their past actions have no impact on their current credibility. They unironically have no idea that admitting the Minsk Accords were negotiated in bad faith, let alone all the bad faith seizures of Russian assets, have torched their ability to negotiate with Russia at all.

Also, if the commissars are keeping Ukrainians in line, why aren't they speaking in Ukrainian? Even if you accept the basic premise that it shows a real fragging, it would make more sense that the video shows English speakers fragging Ukrainians rather than the reverse. Still, interesting video.

ETA: And a great example of why "warning shots" are a terrible idea.

As the Romans learned, forces with no loyalty to anything but money make really, really good enforcers. Troops from Galicia don't really give a shit about Alexandria. Troops from Alexandria would be happy to kill every last Athenian if need be. And, in Ukraine, you don't have to worry about whether or not Americans will feel bad about forcing Ukrainians into enemy fire at gunpoint. Remember, the standard American neocon attitude is that piling the corpses of Ukrainian men to the sky is funny and cool if it results in Russia being even slightly inconvenienced.

I guarantee you western ground attack planes are every bit as dented after a few flights. They’re travelling in peak bird density layer. And I’m also sure western planes also have sealant on the glass, otherwise they’d flood and fog up the moment you fly in inclement weather, or through a cloud. They may hide this section behind a plastic clip to look more aesthetically pleasing and create more work for the maintenance crews, though, because westerners always value style over substance.

Young men aren’t fertile, they’re productive. Their loss is devastating to the economy, as it drives the average age up, but the fertile population is almost exclusively women under 35, and as long as this population remains intact a nation will demographically recover from losing most of its men in just a generation.
It’s why conscripting men is no big deal, but conscripting women signifies you’re in really big trouble and willing to sacrifice your nation’s future.
The men are dead and the young women have flooded the brothels of europe. Ukraine is finished.

It's not just dents - equipment that's been in the field always looks pretty beat. It's tolerances, materials, obvious age of components, etc. To me, being used to seeing aircraft designed & fabricated with CAD/CAM (which we've had since the late 60s), upgraded & modernized on more aggressive schedules than the USSR or Russia could afford, Soviet-era equipment looks rough. But hey, it flies. Testament to what a rugged design can accomplish, I suppose.

I was talking to my dad (he's in his 70s) about what we've done to Ukraine. He said it's been pretty tough to watch the US become increasingly craven and evil in its foreign policy over his life time.

It's really going to suck when he realizes that all of it was necessary for him to enjoy the standard of living that he's grown accustomed to post-WWII and that he sold his grandchildren into slavery for just one more disposable shiny trinket that he's already forgotten buying.

No, we really didn't need to do any of this shit.

We really did if you think about it. Old people aren't moving back in with their kids any more to grow old. They insist on financial independence and a standard of living in retirement never before seen in human history without actually saving enough during their working lives to do it and the kids have been so alienated by them that they don't want to care for them in their old age any way. The only way that works is to have them all gamble their meager retirement funds in the stock market/real estate and rig it so it always goes up (until they can't any more) and the only way that works is via non-stop global meddling and wars.

This is underwear pants gnome logic.

1. Dead Ukrainians
2. ???
3. Medicare is funded!

How so? Something like 70% of Ukraine's arable farmland is (was) owned by a handful of US corporations. Russia owns it now.

It's corporate colonialism. When a foreign entity owns the assets then whatever profit is generated leaves the country to foreign shareholders instead of being reinvested locally. That means that those locals will never earn beyond subsistence level, no civic infrastructure improvements, etc. Just the bare minimum, every other nickel gets sent to the US. This isn't just Ukraine, corporate colonialism has been our foreign policy for 50+ years and a big reason for that is to juice the US stock market and we aren't even talking MIC yet. Most of the troubles around the world can be directly traced back to the US desire to maintain economic dominance, this isn't debatable.

If we took the entire revenue from Ukraine's entire agricultural sector and put it into Medicare, as in one year, we just took all the revenue, and didn't spend a dime more on salaries, seed, fertilizer, equipment, etc, and spent it all on our old people instead, it would fund our senior medical entitlement for barely more than one week. If we just take all the profits, it funds our medical program for half a day.

It depends. Aircraft maintenance inside and outside of combat can and often is approached a little differently. The sealant job on the canopy and windscreen is fine for something in a combat zone. If it weren't being actively used in combat operations, someone would have taken the time to clean up the overflow. What's important is that the canopy seals, not that it looks pretty.

You won't see a ton of denting on US jets because of they use a lot more carbon fiber, and carbon fiber doesn't dent.

I've seen dozens of US jets that looked like boiled shit, and I've overseen maintenance operations that violated engineering guidelines and were only approved due to being in a combat theater. We had a carbon fiber panel fly off the side of our ship while in the Med and we didn't have the materials on the ship to replace it, and we needed the aircraft for combat ops. After a brief email chain with a Boeing engineer, our maintenance officer approved use to remake the panel out of unrolled and riveted beer cans. Shortly after we were able to leave the combat zone and a new carbon fiber panel was waiting for us in Dubai.

Just a reminder that a skilled CDI could find a reason to down almost any aircraft currently in use by the US. Give me 30 minutes on any aircraft and I'll find a little bit of hydraulic fluid sitting in the frame somewhere. It's a delicate balance between super strict engineering guidelines and operational readiness, and in combat, operation readiness is paramount.

So if it strikes a bird it’ll just disintegrate instead? It’s amazing you can recruit anyone brave enough to fly such a death trap.

You've missed my point completely. I didn't say Ukraine's ag sector is funding entitlements, I suggested Ukraine's ag sector boosted US corp profits and stock price while providing a place to further undermine Russia. Looks what it's done for Lockheed's and Raytheon's stock the past 24 months, that's just a bonus. Same with all the former Soviet states that have joined NATO: they all remain destitute in perpetuity while corp profits immediately leave those countries now.

If the USD stops being the world's reserve currency (among many things) then the USA becomes Zimbabwe overnight. That requires a ton of foreign meddling and kick-starting the occasional war, that's really all I'm saying.

That video about "friendly" fire is most likely fake and gay, but still feels good. Glowniggers getting shot is always a good fantasy.
I don't know that it is real, but there's nothing in the actual video that stands out as fake to me and the reasoning someone gave for why it would be is that it wouldn't leak. Well I think it's plausible that it would. The Ukies who are fleeing seemed to have come out ahead and there are multiple reasons they would take the footage - as evidence it was in self-defence, to hide evidence that they shot the baricading troops, or to show to their friends what was going on. Three well justifiable reasons there. And if as is perhaps more likely the video were taken by someone else later, it's exactly the sort of thing you would share with your friends to show what was going on / had happened. And once something is shared, it can spread very easily until it reaches someone who shares it outside the friend group.

So again, I don't know that it is real, but I see no reason it shouldn't be. We know that the Ukie command does use barricade troops. Are we really to suppose they're never used?

I'm not sure that supports your point. I mean, Ukraine is notorious for not carrying out censuses so the numbers are probably shot to Hell anyway, but taken as given the female surplus is all starting at the age of 40yrs plus so it's really just showing Ukranian men don't live into old age as much as Ukranian women. Which is likely accurate because there is nothing so indestructible as a Slavic Babushka.

Zaluzhny's assistant Gennadiy Chastiakov has been killed by a grenade disguised as a gift at his home in Kiev. His 13-year-old son was seriously wounded. Chastiakov came home with presents received on his birthday, when opening one of the presents it exploded a la Fomin (a reference to the Tatarsky assaination). The gift bag contained bottles of liquor and grenade-shaped shot glasses. According to his wife, the deadly gift was received from senior assistant of the AFU deputy commander-in-chief Timchenko. Nice syringe there bro; he must have liked mainlining his coke, avoiding that post cocaine drip.
