"Zero Punctuation" and "Dev Diary" by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw - The only thing worth watching on The Escapist

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I think the deal is either Yahtzee doesn't know, or wants too, work with other people (which shows if one watches that GameDamage pilot) and thus decides to do all the work himself OR he views himself as the Jack of all trades type. He can make reviews, write books and hell he can code this game that will totally be awesome.
If he has so much money plus his rich wife's money he could easily hire coders and designers who would do whatever he says.

The bigger issue is that Yathzee is still a games "journalist" so his taste in gaming is shit. He will always be known as the le funny fedora man who talks about games using slurs and a british accent, I doubt anybody actually watches his videos to hear valid opinions about videogames or their design(I hope not)

Would you be shocked if I told you there were indeed fuckheads who saw his videos as valid opinion pieces on videogames and video game designs?

Ye and I think again, he doesn't like or know how to work with others. So, even with this money it's clearly he's against the idea of working with other people.

Could you niggers give a bit more substance about this "rich wife".
There isn't much info to go about, she mostly made an appearance in his streams. I think somewhere Yahtzee mentioned she has rich parents, hence why he was able to move toward Cali in the first place

They've got a new channel. Fully Ramblomatic will be returning next week with, presumably, Spider-Man 2.
If anyone has a link to the Sonic Superstars review, that'd be helpful.
That Nick guy is so low-test he makes Matt Jarbo look like an alpha male lmao. Why Yathzee stuck around with him I will never know, but I figure it's because deep inside he is the same kind of soyboy as Nick.
I wonder what their new format will be like.
Edit: Made it about 15 minutes in, Nick said that he will delete all the hateful bigot comments and run a tight ship on the discord and comment sections. Basically, he's going to censor the hell out of people and delete all the comments that hurt his ass, just like when the Hogwarts review dropped. Don't really need to know more than that, hopefully someone will leak the paypig stuff if there is anything good there.
If there is anything actually useful in that video, do let us know. I can't be bothered to finish it.

I'm shocked that they're calling it Second Wind. That's an awful name for a gaming journism channel lol
Same kinda logic as ResetEra's name, I figure.

They probably can't put Yahtzee's name in the channel, considering Yahtzee is a brand name for the dice game, but they could have called it "Croshaw's Crew" or something. Name recognition for the one guy anyone knows, of course. "Second Wind" isn't exciting and could refer to anything.

To people asking about the wife thing, here's a few bits of info I can recall (this was just after Yahtzee had left Australia for the USA so it was some time ago now):

- She stated on a stream (which I'm sure is now lost to the internet void,) that she is from a wealthy family, so wealthy in fact that she works by choice and could live a life of leisure if she wanted to. No specifics were ever disclosed about the wealth, but it sounded like a family that came from the old money.
- She is a mathematician, university/college graduate

In terms of how they met... this is where I found things were "interesting".. it was stated at first it was all some big coincidence, that she just ran into Yahtzee at the Mana Bar (Yahtzee's failed business venture in Brisbane, Australia), and Yahtzee being the "don't approach me or talk to me if you recognize me in public" kind of guy (he said something to this effect on a podcast), basically told her to fuck off. She then went back to the bar again a day later, and was all like "oh it's you again!! uWu" and started warming up to him at which point he relented.. and things just developed from there.

She (and also Yahtzee) stated quite a few times on streams that she didn't even know who Yahtzee was.. their meeting was all just coincidence. Somehow though, it was made public (and she even admitted on a stream, Yahtzee and Kess did a couple of streams together with the Octodad game, Stop talking and nobody explodes, Dark Souls from what I can recall off of the top of my head), that she actually DID know who Yahtzee was, followed his work and read his books prior to flying out to Australia.... (I would give links and timestamps but this is going back some years now and I ain't going to that level of effort..my guess is that most/all of the Streams with Kess are lost now), I might be misremembering some finer details but I think I'm getting the general gist of it all across.

Anyway, when this info came to light... I just remember it all of a sudden took on some real stalker-y, "psycho" vibes to all of it... like it was all premeditated and it was almost like there was this kind of "cover up" going on as people looking from the outside-in would think the whole thing is fucking weird. She flew half way across the world, to some city that in some country that is not even a real tourist destination (most tourists visiting Australia would go to Sydney), to get it on with some semi-famous internet dude.. I remember there were some nasty things being said about her being a succubus who "stole Yahtzee" and blamed her for ending the Let's Drown Out podcast series. Yahtzee stated that even if he hadn't had met his current wife, he would have ended up in the States anyway as it was a natural career move for him.

I kind of think if there was honesty from the start about her intentions, and that there wasn't some kind of "cover up", it probably wouldn't have left me with the icky feeling that it did. They are still married now (I'm assuming happily) and have had children, so this all ancient history.. anyway that is the story of the origin of Yahtzee and Kess, as I remember it.

This is his game... it's full of tropes he makes fun of! So get ready!

I called this a while ago, he probably designed it to "review" it on his show then was going to play it off like self-deprecation.

So, she pursued him and they ended up married. Not especially salacious.

If the moral of the story is "even if you're a C-list e-celeb known for being an asshole will get you pussy and progeny", sounds like he's living the dream.

I know I watched a few Extra Punctuation videos where he tends to articulate about game design.

I would still call Extra Punctuation "valid opinions" but most of the takes suck. Go back in this thread and you can see debate.

Ironic whenever Sonic tries something new, this fedora faggot raged about it. Sonic goes to be more OG, this faggot still rages about it.
On his defense, Sonic is too spaztic to stick to something that works for more than 5 minutes, and when it does it does it in the safest way possible (GREEN HILL ZONE!). Sonic Mania was really a singularity.
