Yeah. Nick's religious ideas are those of an agnostic on the way to declaring himself an atheist.
He can't accept the idea of objective morality. The idea that there is right and wrong. His argument is that since its impossible to convince a bad person not to do something with reason, morality (even personal morality of the self) is if no value whatsoever. There are evil people in the world and talking to them is not going to change their behavior, so why subscribe to any moral code yourself?
Nick goes further and describes those who do believe in objective morality to be "monsters". Vito, Dax, the onlyfans women and the sex workers are apparently just better people than those "monsters" who might think that sex work or being an open pedophile is not a good thing.
He still has no clue about the christian concept of "grace". He is unsure why people should even try not to be a moral failure. He asks where specifically there is any religious requirement to try not to sin in christianity. He believes that Salvation is unconditional forgiveness for all actions even if the person believes that the wrong action is moral and correct.
He misinterprets certain passages in the New Testament with are commonly misinterpreted by a certain type of person. He takes the phrase "“Everything is permissible for me” and fails to understand that it is not a license to sin, but rather a statement that grace is not earned nor does grace come from following the law. Grace is rooted in faith alone.
What answers Nick's questions is Romans 6:1-2 which specifically deals with the question of sin and grace as Nick himself has posed it:
Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Nick wonders why christians put such a high priority on isolated matters of morality such as violence against others, theft and sexual issues versus other sins (which Nick is careful not to name but may be gossip). I mean when you get to the point where you can't understand why doing physical violence against people or stealing their stuff are very serious moral issues, you are lost not religiously but as a human being.
I believe that Nick has no interest whatsoever in religion. Nick's interest is coming up with a scriptural defense for his empty life of materialistic hedonism which he can use to argue with actual christians or with his own family.
