He has some strange ideas mixed in with some that seem innocuous, until you realise he does not believe in much of anything at all. What he DOES believe in is twisted and misunderstood.

I was actually surprised at Nick's poor understanding of Christianity, especially for a supposed Sunday School teacher / member of a home school co-op.

Forget Calvinism vs Arminianism - or Catholicism vs Protestantism - we're answering the big questions here, like "isn't good & evil... just like... your opinion, man?"

Nick talks about how objective moral standards are "dangerous" - and not because of his own belief in moral relativism - or a distrust of central authority - but because moral standards (gasp) represent limits on his behavior!

Nick's understanding of human morality is superficial - he asks why it focuses on sex & violence - but these are areas where (1) the stakes are high and (2) humans have a strong innate sense of fairness. Those are also areas which the unscrupulous will try to exploit.

His understanding of Christian salvation is similarly shallow - "why bother if it's free anyway?".

I'm struck by several things... First, how nihilistic and sensation-seeking of a person he is (or has become), and second, how his only interest seems to be bending 'the rules' to justify his behavior.

As long as the rules permit what HE wants to do, then everything is peachy keen.

He props himself up as an 'expert' even when he has no credentials about it.

You're exactly right. For someone who seems to have thought so little about morality and religion, Nick's drunken obsession with his own thoughts seems comically ridiculous.

He signed papers swearing he was physically present with people who were 100+ miles away, all on the same day when it wouldn't have even been physically possible to be present all those places, which Sam Johnson, Jamie Marchi's lawyer, noticed.

This was completely unnecessary, as there are notaries who are in fact allowed to notarize remotely, but Ty didn't have that certification and instead used the form for when you're physically present with the people involved.

This is ALL on Ty, period.

It would have cost, max, a couple hundred dollars to get an actual qualified notary to do it properly. Instead, he FUCKED UP a case where well over a million ended up being spent. Over NOTHING.
