Does anyone enjoy rock climbing?

I started fairly recently and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I try to go as often as I can, usually once every other day, but I've been kinda falling behind on it.

I always wanted to try it. Do you have any tips for anyone looking to get into the sport?

Caving sounds terrifying to be honest, and to think of the small crawl spaces people are ok with getting into.

No, it's really fun, as long as you go with a lot of other people. My cave pals and I went to an underground hot spring, it was the neatest thing. And it was right in our homestate, barely a half hour away! It's amazing what lurks below surface of places you thought you knew!

Although I did loose a really nice hiking boot in there which set me back about 60 dollars, so that was kind of a bummer. Climbing back with a sock-foot was even less fun.

I got into climbing about a year ago, and it's super fun, mostly because it's both physical and mental activity. I only wish climbing gyms in my area weren't so pozzed.

Anyway, has anyone tried Deep Water Solo? I hope I'll be good enough for it come next summer, but shit's still scary. How do you train for it?

Sad at how dead this thread is. I'm so fucking desperate for regular climbing partners it's unreal. Finally finding comfy climbing shoes + getting over my fear of heights on toptope = FUCK I'M SO HOOKED, way more than before when I was just bouldering. Did some mock leading outdoors with a guide recently and I had a ton of fun.

Yeah fuck I'm kinda surprised the climbing community's Genshin Impact levels of faggotry hasn't been documented in depth here.

I've never done it but definitely grind out your endurance, are you eyeing easy routes to do it or do you want to push yourself? As a crippling autist, traversing your gym's spray wall or even the whole bouldering area is a great way to build endurance and learn to recover when you've got too much spaghetti in your pockets to ask for a belay. Downclimbing a route and climbing back up over and over is also choice.

Been meaning to try it for a while but have yet to find a decent location to give it a try. The geography makes it hard as most of the coast is either sandy, doesn't have the overhang to clear rock ledge or is too high grade to give DWS a first attempt.

Probably not enough of an online presence, though I do know there are a couple of small lolcows in my local community (drama over belay and naming rights to routes, inane shit like that) but not enough to get milk from. Most of the faggotry is in cliques though and found the general community is pretty welcoming but then again I'm not US based.

Majestic in BC, Canada looks like a good spot. It's a V6, though, so it's probably a year or two too early for me.

On another note, Redbull is doing another Dual Ascent event this weekend. I'm hyped that Shauna Coxsey is doing the commentary - she's incredible and has the best insights into what's happening on the wall.

This forced me to stop years ago. Everyone got married/got girlfriends/moved away and in one extreme case, went to prison.

I should really take it up again, some of the local indoor walls apparently have auto-belays now (never used, sounds suss).

That’s an amazing spot, route looks like it’s good fun too. Definitely adding that to my bucket list.

Too much at stake with an auto belay imo, seen too many horror stories about them resulting in death or in one case anal impalement.

Auto-belays are used in speed climbing competitions, if that's not a sign of reliability then I don't know what else could be.

How many? I only heard about three or four, and all of them were the climber's fault for not clipping in properly (including the six-million-dollar lawsuit incident in Seattle).

Six I think? Two at place in my city which is more the cause of hesitancy and honestly they've been slap dash at the best of times with double checking safety (they've now removed all the auto-belays). But the more I think about it, you're probably better off in the hands of the auto-belay instead of some Gumby you've just met.

On another note, does anyone have any recommended channels or resources they've recommend on improving their climbing?
I've been browsing hoopers beta on YouTube recently and it seems half decent.

I like watching Louis from Catalyst Climbing coach people - applying his tips and feedback to my climbing helped me send a couple tough projects.

What is up with that?
My local gym has two giant gay/trans flags hanging in it and the people on their Instagram look like what you would get if you asked an AI to generate the most diverse and soy-filled NPC "people" possible.
Is rock climbing the only socially acceptable fitness activity for bugmen or something?

I like rock climbing. I think it comes with the fact that many people who rock climb are out West, and California is ground zero for that kind of sin. So it is just leaking into it.

Could be the lack of direct competitiveness, they don't need prove anything to participate. So it's ok for them to prance around the local gyms as a social thing without making anyone feel bad for losing. There's a few groups who do this at my local, but you never see them at the crag and they only turn up sporadically. The vast bulk of the regulars are groups who are pushing themselves or each other to try harder grades instead of loudly clapping and cheering when their crop-top wearing tranny friend with the pokemon chalk bag finally clears the pink in the corner.

Reviving a dead thread.

Anyone still rock climbing from the farms? Personally I’m having a pretty good outdoor season. I’ve completely dropped going to the climbing gym’s to avoid tranny faggotry.
