Navy SEALs, Delta Force, and SOCOM general - The most "Special" groups in the U.S. Military

Regular army never liked spooks, regardless of branches. They are the ones sneaking behind lines and murdering innocent people to set up the enemy, they are the ones planting explosives in houses, abducting and torturing people.
Commiting horrid crimes and calling it "patriotism". Spooks are the symptom of post-industrial era sicknesses.
So it's the SS vs. Wehrmacht rivalry but American?

You may be onto something, kiddo. This is the woman behind the Abu Ghraib crimes, for the zoomies who don't get the reference

Also, rn I'm working on Erik Prince, the guy is a charismatic psychopath, and it takes time to separate his lies from the reality of what he did. I want to be as thorough as possible. I've seen little of Mike Glover and the Black Rifle coffee company. If you guys know something, do share. :semperfi: :semperfidelis:

I remember watching a video about this guy and thought it was interesting:

@Justtocheck this might be something to mention in the OP.
This is wildly interesting. Thanks for sharing this. Since this is a SEAL thread and he was in fact a former Green Beret, I will link this documentary in the links as added entertainment and shenanigans of spec ops members. I just won't be putting his name in the notable SEALs. Thanks for sharing!

Should really just be military vet general.

Anyone whose served knows the military is mostly a big gay joke and nothing is worse than running into other vets who either want to start a pissing contest or a pity party.

Think Walter Sobchak and how he ties everything to Vietnam.
I don't disagree with your “big gay joke” about the military, for the most part. This thread though is about an organization (SEALs) with a huge brand and marketing behind it (very much deliberate) and much of it is lies to push agendas, get officers promoted and get people to join. That's my main focus with making a SEAL general; to seek the real truth and expose the myth.

The military has millions of former members and many, I'm sure, are crazy and lolcowish. Just like the Stolen Valor crowd. However, I don't want this thread to put the twitter of every single crazy jar head, or army dude with a Twitter account and poor impulse control. If the cow you find is too big and milky, we can make a separate thread for him, no problem.

what i found on that, it sounds like he was dropped from the program just before graduation, so he did not graduate
Don Shipley said that he was dropped in third phase which is the land warfare and tactics phase. At the end of third phase they go out to San Clemente Island to show off everything they learned in training and most of the drops are from the instructors kicking people out for lack of leadership skills.

one more guy you forgot to mention is don shipley known for exposing fake seals
I know Don very, very well. In fact, during the Janke debacle, I had him as a pfp to play around with Mike Janke. I also posted about his son, DJ.

(In fact, I was the one who suggested Ethan's shart should be featured and that lead to a whole debacle. You are welcome. lol)

I don't dislike Don, and he won a medal for a rescue operation at sea. He's just a boomer and a bit cringe in his pursuits of the Stolen Valor, although I get it, but he didn't live through the GWOT.

I'm open to hear your thoughts, should Don be featured next to people like Kyle and Gallagher? I don't personally think so. As far as I know, he had an honorable service. His son DJ has been through GWOT and is literally brain-damaged, and most of the stupid stuff he did ended up hurting himself.

Do you guys think either should be in the list?

@Dick Pooman Earlier in the thread we mentioned him. Dan got dropped in the third phase for “range safety violations”. What that means is that the motherfucker cannot be trusted with a gun because he's a trigger-happy, probably sociopathic ape. Dan fits the profile to a T.

Honestly maybe the thread should be expanded to include Spec Ops people in general.

I wonder if our International Kiwis have any stories about the weirdos in their militaries.

I also should add that the channel behind the video I linked has a lot of interesting videos on lolcows and similar topics, here’s one of my favorites which is on Dan Nainan:

i think he should be featured not really because his navy records or anything but that hes a notable navy seal

mild pl but some of my close family worked for the Department of Defense as research engineers and what the DoD found regarding PTSD was damning. Even just for rank and file grunts in Marines and Army, it was clear that what was being inflicted was a mental illness that was, for all intents and purposes, totally debilitating. And we still don't really know how to do anything about it. Add into that the concussive brain injuries that come with war in general and what you got was the military keeping an eye on this stuff since the 70's and simultaneously telling everyone that knew about it to shut the fuck up lest Jimbob rub two brain cells together and re evaluate his decision to sign that dotted line.

All that is to say I bet you're on to something with this thread because the abnormal psychology needed to want to join something like SF/SEAL + the effects of combat as known will definitely lead to a personality cesspit begetting plenty of milk.
Fwiw ; I put a whole hell of a lot stock in “shell shock” over “ptsd”. Look at the brain damage going on with the NFL. Mix in a lot of life and death with a shit load of mortar and gunfire, and the vibrations agitate the brain for PTSD. Plus, most artillery guys I’ve known are especially off. Grossman can suck gypsy dick in front of his kids in a cramped tent.

As a slight aside, I had it pointed out to me, in the movie Black Hawk Down, the Rangers wore the standard helmet, while the Delta snipers wore impact helmets. Had it explained to me that, realistically, the helmet does dick and an impact helmet is going to be far more effective for shrapnel and falls while being light and mobile.

I tend to agree. I think there is PTSD, but literal damage from overpressure (think arty or being a breacher) is awful for the brain regardless of helmet and perhaps that is the bigger cause of things like the behaviours we see. Sometimes. Drugs and booze are also a factor.
Though AFAIK the Deltas wore in BHD a literal skateboard helmet modified for NODs. They wanted to be faster. SFC Earl Robert Fillmore, Jr. got shot in the head and the helmet did nothing. Dunno if a kevlar one would have saved him, but when people are firing RPGs at you, I'd rather keep my head as safe as possible.

The SAS are based
At least the ones who don't turn their careers into books and then become minor celebrities because they were on Bravo Two Zero.

The reason for those skateboarding helmets were down to them being substantially lighter, better fitting and less bulky than an M1 or PASGT helmets of the time. The main concern for those dudes was them running into something in a confined space and having the protection from anything you might bump your head to, hence the Bump Helmet term. In a way, consider the modified skateboard helmets the predecessor to FAST and other such high-cut helmets.
